Exciting Times

*hugs* well, sit hasnt hit the fan yet, usually a sign that things wont flare up so much when it IS brought up.

My 1st gf came out to her parents 2 years ago, they ask about her male mates as if they are her bf's in 'hope' and were so in denial that they didnt 'get it' when her latest gf (one of my best mates) was shacking up in her room 3 nights a week- one living in oxford the other in london

It's probs denial sweet, and hey what can they do?

At the end of the day... I can't be any other way. It's up to them to accept me. I don't think they'll kick me out or anything, but it's probably going to be a while before things start approaching normal again.

Fuck... Reality check - this really has happened...

Thanks, Charley

I can only come at it through my experience ... it will all BE OKAY, Sche ... just be honest with them and take their questions seriously when they begin to ask the really - REALLY dumb ones like "What do you do? lol Take it in stride - don't get angry ... just try to explain in a way you think they can best understand. All is well in the world - babe!

Part of me wants to laugh at it, part of me wants to embrace the wave of freedom that's washing over me... but it's still scary stuff, and I'm so churned up it's given me the shits.

*hugs* Very proud of you darlin. Worst part is over. And I must admit the outted by the dvd collection is a new one for me to hear. :rose:

I'm guessing that your parents are probably shocked and trying to come to terms with what they have inadvertently found out. They will get over it eventually. You're still their daughter and they should love you regardless. One day you'll look back at this and laugh... *hugs* :rose:

I think they've been suspicious for years. This has pretty much sealed it, though. I hope I don't suddenly become straight... because otherwise all this will be such a pain in the arse waste of angst.

I know it is, thanks, Charley. It's still gut-churning, though... :rose:

I'm kind of laughing now. My goal is just to act as normal as possible around them in the meantime.

Thanks for the hugs :rose:

God, I need to smoke right now...

You should definitely write to The L Word - I bet they'd love it. Thye might even use it as a future storyline. You realise this is yet another Zade type occurrence. I honestly don;t think anyone else could have managed it :D

And dinner was lemon grilled chicken, mashed potato and mediterranean roast vegetables... might not be in a fit state to eat in 3 hours though, I'll make you a bacon sarnie and cook again tomorrow :)

Nervy? Don't worry, nothing like the waft of bacon to stimulate the appetite.

Maybe they just need more time?

Anyway, it's early days as far as my parents go, so don't be too envious yet.

About time!
I still haven't come out to my family.....not in so many words. Do you think the fact that I married a woman will have given it away??

*blink, blink*

No, I'm not kidding. I have never said to my family, any of them, that I am gay, or a lesbian, or anything. I simply told them I was going to spend 3 months with a female friend in the States, and that she was then going to come back to the UK to live with me. When I told my sons, I just said that Min and I were a couple - they laughed, 'cos they had, of course, guessed, and so has everyone else who we have told.

So to be literal, I have never come out to my family. I have, however, come out to many of my closest friends.

Wow...cool ish. This is a redundant q i guess, but dont you, or didnt you want to be straight...(ahem...) with them about it?

It's not that I don't want to be, I'm assuming the fact that we went through a civil partnership ceremony, attended by my sons, Min's parents, Lucky, Vella, Becca, Zade and various anonymous friends, and that they (my parents), have a picture of us at our wedding, standing on the table with the rest of the family wedding photos, that saying anything would be superfluous.

Well, it sounds like things are going much better for you than they did for me. When I came out, the first thing my family thought was it was because I had gone through a really bad marriage and divorce.

When they finally understood that I had really been fighting with my sexuality since my teens they just wigged. I now have NO contact with anyone in my family except for my father, and that is really strained. And the only reason I continue with that saga is because he's really old and I do love him.

He does come to visit me a few times each year but it's just so fucking hard. He usually ends up having "church" people come to visit me and attempt to counsel me. The last few years I just tell them to go away and shut the door.

I shouldn't say I have no contact with my family. I come from a very, very large family. A couple of weeks ago was my birthday I the ONLY family member that called me to wish me a happy birthday was one of my nephews (I have close to 30 neices and nephews). I hadn't talked to him in probably 6 six years. It almost made me cry to realize that at one time I was considered the "cool" aunt, the one person in the family that had their shit together. Now I am the freak.

I'm the same person now that I was then...I just wish they could understand that. And whats really strange is that my mother and I NEVER got along. I think if she were still alive, she would be supportive and understanding of me.

So all I can say is that I wish you well and that your family will remeber that your the same person you were last week.
