Jack Simmons walked out onto the deck of the lifeguard hut, seeing that the early morning crowd on the beach was healthy and growing. For a few weeks, the Memorial Day weather forecast had been promising, and now that the 3-day holiday weekend was here, and the summer was officially underway, the good people from three states around were ready to avail themselves of the (almost) warm ocean waters and the legendary Pacific City sun.
At 42, Jack was entering his third year as Chief of the Pacific City Beach Patrol. This year also marked his 25th year of being a full time lifeguard, a job he started before he even graduated from high school. It was the only job he ever wanted, and that was still the case today.
Jack is dealing with the intrusion of a consulting company that, starting this year, is actually running the beach patrol. While he is still officially the Chief of the Beach Patrol, the Pacific City Mayor and Town Council have decided to hire a management firm to actually run the Beach Patrol, along with several other town services.
This leaves Jack with lifeguards he didn’t hire, and his assistants all working for the private management company. Several of his assistants are new, brought in by the company. The assistants he knows are now employees of the private company, and Jack doesn’t know where people’s allegiances are.
He tries to keep positive, realizing that despite the politics, he still is lucky to be on the beach every day. He knows that the vacationers won’t care who the lifeguards work for. But the impending change is unsettling to Jack, and he wonders what waits in store for him.
OOC: I need these characters. I won’t assign a gender, so that all characters are open to anyone.
Mayor – good friend of Jack’s, but pressuring him to accept the new business arrangement.
President of Chamber of Commerce – New to town, younger than most Chamber Presidents. Feeling way through new job and new town.
Restaurant/Club Owner – notorious business person with shady background and shadier friends that move in and out of town.
Assistant Chief Lifeguard No. 1 – friend of Jacks, worked with him for years. Unsure of how new employment arrangement will work.
Assistant Chief Lifeguard No. 2 – put in place by new management company. May be ( or may not be) spying on Jack. May not be (or may be) trustworthy.
We also need lifeguards and vacationers and town residents and business people.
This thread is open, feel free to post. But please be someone who thinks out your character, has an idea of your plot line and posts a few paragraphs at a time. And I reserve the right to PM you and discuss your intentions.
