Angels have always existed since the beginning of time. Most mortals believe that all angels have blonde hair blue eyes and they all sing praises in heaven.
Ariana, was a guardian angel. However, she was not the stereotypical angel. She was tall with lily-white skin, dark raven hair, and piercing green eyes that would make anyone mortal, or immortal envious. Her rainment was a long white gown that flowed like waves to the end of her long angelic legs. Of course Ariana had wings, her were fashioned like an eagles, wide and strong and her they were white as cotton. Her voice was well, angelic. She would sing in the choir, but she didn’t like being in heaven. Yes, an angel not enjoying the gates of pearl, walls of jasper, and streets of gold. She was jealous of the humans. Being able to fall in love, and to make choices; to live and to feel.
Saint Peter, the guardian of the gate, rewarded Ariana by being a guardian angels. She had been the guardian to many humans. Men, women, boys, girls, old, young, healthy, sick, wealthy, poor, famous, and common she had been all of their guardian angels.
Her latest assignment was Catherine Bowman. Cat was 24, a young school teacher. From what she observed she lived a normal life. She had just moved into her first apartment and she was teaching third grade in the city. Her life seemed fine; Cat was obviously lonely, but she was young. She didn’t understand why she was assigned to Catherine.
Cat, was unconventionally beautiful. She had long brown hair with a scatter of freckles on her nose. She was tall and thin and she had dark blue eyes. Cat’s fate was that she was shy. She didn’t pay attention to men turning their heads in her direction and she certainly didn’t have the guts to say something to them. She was a genuinely good person. A breath of fresh air for the angel.
Another one of Cat’s faults was that she was clumsy. Ariana had to constantly step in when she would forget to turn off the stove or watch where she stepped. Compared to other mortals, Cat was a breeze to watch over. Ariana felt a strong bond between herself and Cat. They were both lonely and always searching for more.
Little did Ariana know that she would be guarding her for a reason. It was just after work and Cat had to stop at the local Quick stop for a fill up. She filled up and went inside the store and smiled at the young Indian boy behind the counter. The young greasy haired Indian boy was attractive, but Ariana read his mind and knew the vulgar things he was lusting to do with Cat. Cat was oblivious. She went to the back cooler and brought out a Dr. Pepper and walked up to the counter to pay for her gas and drink.
Suddenly, a man in a black mask came in and put a gun in the boy’s face and demanded money. The boy put his hands up and Cat ran behind the cookie rack. The thief demanded the money and the boy popped open the register. The thief needed drug money, he was a bad addict. He was shaking and it was obvious it was his first robbery.
Abruptly in the blink of an eye the clerk pulled out a .22 and began to shoot. Ariana guraded Cat pulling her down to the floor and covering her body with her own. While shielding her she noticed that the clerk shot the perp in the shoulder and he was making his way out the door, without the money. Cat noticed blood on the floor. No more shots were being fired she thought the coast was clear.
Then she felt something grab a hold of her. Ariana was being dragged away by the only thing that could touch her, another angel. But this wasn’t one of Heaven’s angels.
