"Ahh, understood," Al'ika said, with a smile. "Practice everyday, but don't get ahead of yourself. First time I tried to make a fireball. . . Let's just say I had no eyebrows for about a month." She patted his shoulder. "And work with Jester, he's good."

"I guess I'd better just get my club," he said, heading off.

Al'ika smiled and shook her head. She looked up at Keth. "Are we done here?" she asked.

"Think so," he said. "Good kids."

"They're sharp," Al'ika noted, leaving the barracks. "Remember- Constant vigilance!" she called back in. "Visit Jep?" she asked.

"Sure," he said. "Wonder if he got in trouble again."

"Jep is the pure definition of trouble," Al'ika laughed.

Jep was up and about when they came in. "Hallowbrook wants to let me out this evening to make sure everything is in the right place," he said.

"Fantastic," Al'ika said, kissing his cheek in greeting.

"I think things are OK with Norro now" he said.

"Why do you say that?" Al'ika asked, smiling.

"He seemed relaxed when he came back," he said.

"Well, that's good. And you and Fate?" Al'ika asked, hopping onto the table.

"Also good," he said. "Still haven't had a chance to try out some of the other gentlemanly stuff you taught me."

Al'ika smiled. "Well, that'll come in time," she said, swinging her legs happily.

"So why is everyone running around mad this morning?"

 

[celestialdragon]

"We haven't noticed anything unusual, just did drills with the recruits," Al'ika said, shrugging.

"Seriously? That's the best you've got?" he asked. "No one brings these guys up."

"They're a sharp bunch, just highly untrained," Al'ika defended.

 

[bindingeagle]

"OK, tell me tonight after I get let out if it makes you feel better," he said.

Al'ika grinned. "You know me a little too well, brother mine," she said.

Jep looked annoyed. "I'm getting out today, and you still won't tell me? If you see Fate, tell her I need the company."

Al'ika grew silent and she simply nodded.
