"Pretty human good with faeries," he said, gulping down some of the water he carried. "How you learn so much about them?"

Al'ika chuckled. "When you run away from your home a lot," she said, "You learn things others might not."

Isep had returned from he forest, where she had been collecting wood. "We're in worse shape than we thought," she said, holding out a paper. "Silverblade put out a writ of outlawry on us."

"Oh, goody, my first writ of outlawry. I must say, I thought Ashglow was going to be first," Al'ika said, reading over it. "You know the village will protect us."

"Too bad we're heading away from it," Flish said. "Too bad for us," He pulled his sword and began playing with it nervously.

Al'ika nodded. "We're some of the best adventurers in these parts, I'm sure we can get out of anything we get into."

Keth and Isep?" Keth asked, and Isep nodded. Flish climbed into the one tent they had pitched, so as not to draw suspicion. "Coming, Marshmallow?" he asked, holding the flap open.

Al'ika nodded. After kissing Keth good night, she crawled into the tent and plopped down. "I forgot how draining this can be," she muttered.

"We need to start thinking early about how we're going to infiltrate the city," he said, pulling out a map. "We'll need some sort of disguises."

"Those guard outfits worked pretty well last time," he said. "AS long as we're dicks, no one will look twice, and there are more female guards in there. Just as corrupt, but there are female guards."

"You know how male guards under Ashglow take liberties with females? Just turn that around and you've got the picture," he said, blowing out the lantern.

Keth woke them up halfway through the night and said, "Your turn." He and Isep bedded down while Flish and Al'ika took watch.

Halfway through the shift, Flish jostled Al'ika. "Light in the distance," he said. "Any idea what it is?" he asked, pointing off through the swamp trees.

"We should wait," Al'ika said. "It doesn't appear to be moving, but we should be wary. The swamps hold many secrets."

"It's not the cow that scares me, it's the people that might want to collect a reward," he whispered.
