The daytime was quiet as Flish took the first watch so the rest could sleep. Around dusk, he awoke Al'ika. "You're up, Marshmallow," he said playfully.

"I'm going to burn you," Al'ika grumbled as she emerged from her bedroll and Keth's side. "How is it out there?" she asked.

"Quiet," he said. "That's probably just because they don't want to be seen yet though," he shrugged. "Just be careful," he said, climbing back into the tent.

"I'm always careful," Al'ika said indignantly before crawling out and perching on a rock, her sword drawn and in her hands, ready to be used.

About two hours into Al'ika's shift, she heard rustling in the bushes. It seemed to be just one small creature.

Al'ika stood up and pointed her blade at the bushes. "Reveal yourself, lest you be killed," she snarled softly.

A lone goblin stumbled out of the bushes, clearly drunk. "Lay down your captured, you're sword," he slurred, giggling at her.

"Clearly I didn't think this through," he rasped in her grasp. "I'll never make tribe warrior at this rate." He wriggled in her grasp.

"That much is apparent. Now, I really hate stupidity, but I'm in a nice mood, so I will let you go. However, I will know if you return, and if you do, I will kill you. Do we have an agreement?" she asked.

Al'ika shook her head. "If you were more of a challenge, maybe. But no. It'd help if you weren't drunk," she said.

"What would I need to do to earn that?" he asked, looking nervous and hoping she wouldn't call for help.

Al'ika smirked. "You'd have to find out," she said. She dropped him. "Scram. Remember what I said earlier."

The goblin sat down and stretched his neck. "Why doesn't the human make a wager with me. If it loses, I get a small trinket. If it wins, I leave."

"I don't do wagers," Al'ika said firmly. She fished her pouch and gave him a small coin. "There. Satisfied?"

The rest of Al'ika's shift passed by uneventfully, and she woke up Isep. "Be on the lookout for drunk goblins," she murmured to her friend before snuggling back down next to Keth.

Isep settled in and awoke the party around midnight. "Time to move, boys and girl," she said, serving everyone dinner.

Al'ika ate with gusto before standing up, sheathing her knife. "I'd say we can get a good few miles in," she said, glancing up at the sky.

The land began to open up as they started to leave the swamp. In the distance they could see the city over the miles and miles of farmland they would have to traverse. They still only had half the required uniforms for their disguises.
