"Oh, fuck me," she groaned, getting out of the tub and stalking over, not caring she was naked. "Since when did you become the boss of me, Flish?" she challenged.

"Since I thought we were a team and you started becoming suicidal," he replied. "You can't trust a demon no matter what they say."

"Did I say I was going to trust the demon? Did that come out of my mouth?" she asked.

"Take Keth then, I'm having no part in this," he said, storming off disgusted.

She ran her fingers through her hair and looked up at Keth. "You okay?" she asked.

"Worried," he said, "But pretty human know what she doing usually."

She smiled and hugged him. "Thank you for that," she said softly. She summoned her clothes and redressed. "I'm going to go talk to Flish," she said. She kissed his cheek and found Flish somewhere within the castle.

"I'm only doing this because I have to. I don't like the idea anymore than you," she said softly from the doorway. "I'm killing Ashglow this way for you and I'eie."

"Then use a sword and we'll all stab him together," he said. "We can trust steel."

She shook her head. "We both know that Ashglow would be expecting something along those lines," she told him. "He won't expect this. I don't like it anymore than you do. In fact, I think I hate it more- it's my soul it's getting attached to." She moved in and sat down next to him. "I'm terrified to think of what might happen, Flish. But I'm doing it because I have to." She kissed his forehead. "It's just like I didn't want to run you through with my sword back at my father's place. I did it because I had to at the time."

"You got my liver, by the way," he said. "OK, do it."

She hugged him. "Thank you, for understanding, and your concern," she said, burying her face into his shoulder.

Vagnor knocked before entering. "Is this a bad time?"

"Not at all," Al'ika said, standing up and making herself look composed. "What do you need?"

"I was wondering if you were set to go," he said, "Time is of the essence and Silverblade's men are getting restless."

She looked at Flish. "Look after Isep while I'm gone," she said, kissing him sweetly.

Leaving the room, she found Keth. "Ready for an adventure?" she asked him, smiling.

"Minotaur should be a good fight," he said, playing with his sword a bit.

"It should," she said, kissing him.

As they hiked back to the surface, Al'ika finally saw how deep they were underground. Vagnor seemed to act like it was business as usual.

Al'ika was surprised at how deep underground they were, but she kept cool, looking out ahead. "Which way is Loriena?" she asked.

"Out the path here and through the next valley," he said, "Then we should be close to the lair."

 

[celestialdragon]

"Great. And then I can go mad!" she said with sarcastic delight.

 

[bindingeagle]

"Only for a day or two until you get used to it," he said, his mad scientist tendencies showing.

She rolled her eyes. "Yes, because I'm not horny often enough as it is," she said dryly.

The sun beat down on them, but there was a glorious breeze blowing through as they hiked. Eventually, Vagnor needed a rest and saw a boarding house coming up. "Let's get some lunch," he said.
