Current day, large city, think New York more so then a Chicago or LA, population packed tight beneath tall towers, the streets filled with men and women fighting for survival, the mid-levels of the towers less dense as they've found ways to survive and drain the wealth upward, filling the reverse funnel and feeding the majority of the riches to the very few and very ruthless on the top floors...

The city never sleeps, the crime and drama a never ending saga that only seems to get worse, taxing the resources and people who try to fight the crime, and too often become part of the very thing they fight...

Dan Charming has found a short cut in that equation by becoming a predator, posing as wealthy, poor or in between to hunt what he's looking for, then taking what he wants, using them for his own twisted pleasures, stripping them of their personalities, resources and sanity before making them disappear never to be found.

He's perfected his routine, found the charm that attracts the ladies he preys on, his conscience gone as he moves from city to city, blending into it like a chameleon, becoming part of it before setting his traps. Years have past and he's becoming bored, no longer able to "up the ante" in catching his victims, and now expanding his net to catch more of a deadlier kind of prey, that being the very same people who try to hunt him...

He's found his next victim and set her as bait, using her for both his twisted pleasures and drawing in the greater prey, raising the stakes and the level of danger for all of them...

Lonely Hearts

The neon sign flashed languidly outside the smoked glass window as the juke box crooned a sad love song, the only light inside cast by the flicker of candles burning within the red orbs on each tiny round table, adding to the ambiance of the lovers who sat gazing into each others eyes.

Joey moved quietly behind the bar on cat feet, pouring wine, making small trays of meet and cheese, adding the occasional chocolate or glass of champagne when it seemed fitting to add to the love interest at a particular table or two.

"Ain't love grand Jill?" He asked softly of his waitress and traded his full tray for her empty, making sure her tips went into her jar and the cheque into his over flowing till behind him

"yeah Joey, only not so good on my aching feet, these heels ya have us wear darlin are killin me" She winked and teased good natured, then eased back into the tables, not missing a beat as a man groped her shapely ass, her slap of his wrist coming with a sweet gasp that made the chastised man smile and tip her even more.

"Yeah, it's Grand, one, two, three, four grand in my till and the night is young" Joey smiled and sighed, propping his hand under a square chin and resting his elbows on the bar, eyes alert and watching love do it's magical thing, the phone chirping quietly before he answered softly with a practiced, crooning voice. "Lonely Hearts Lounge, how can I help heal YOUR heart?"

Liz was bound and determined to drown her sorrows in a bottle of Jack tonight. After experiencing her first heartbreak in her 21 years of life, she decided there was no better place to forget everything than the Lonely Hearts Lounge. She'd been hanging her quite a bit ever since the break-up, and she actually enjoyed it there. She'd met a few nice guys who had been more than willing to buy her drinks, and then take her home. She liked the attention she received from the men there and for some reason she thought sleeping with some of them would make her feel less lonely; but it only did the exact opposite.

She was a young, beautiful, carefree girl and she just wanted to have fun. Yes a bit naive and still very innocent at her age, she was determined to see the world and experience new things, and for some reason unbeknownst to many, she believed that the Lonely Heart Lounge was where it all began.

The lounge was particularly busy that evening and she had to wait for a seat to open at the bar. She hadn't gone too far with dressing herself up tonight, only a simple black dress and heels, but she didn't have to do much to make herself look beautiful. She ordered a glass of whiskey as she scanned the crowd for any good looking men, hoping one would soon make his way to her like they often did.

Rio sat at her desk in the noisy bull pen at cop central. She chewed on the end of her pen as she stared at the stack of photos and missing person sheets in front of her.

Each was an attractive woman, varying ages and social status. Two had been married, no children. The last was a young co-ed, a pretty cheerleader who had gone missing just 3 months ago, along with her very healthy trust fund.

"Rio, want to call it a night and get a drink."

She glanced up at Detective Sargent Mike Jennings and sighed, the man had been asking her out for the last two years and had still not realized she wasn't interested.

"No Mike, I think I am going to put in a few more hours."

He wandered over to her desk, picked up a few of the photos then set them down. "Missing persons? Since when does the top homicide cop focus on missing persons?"

"Since I think they are all related and DEAD." She growled.

"Hmmmm....know something the rest of us don't Detective?"

Glaring at him she muttered. "sure do"

"Hey Boys...Rio thinks she is going to catch a SERIAL KILLER." He laughed.

True serial killers were rare, and cops who caught them even rarer. She was just 34 yrs old and knew it would make her career if she could bag herself a killer. But she wasn't in it for the fame. She needed to solve these cases.

Her brain was telling her they were connected, she just had to figure out how.

"Go pick up some lonely woman Mike, have a good romp and leave me alone."

"Your loss Rio. If you change your mind I will be at Lonely Hearts until U get some pretty woman to take home and give me a nice blow job then send her on her way while I sleep like a baby."

"Nice Mike...real classy."

"Ahh now Darlin, I would let you give me more that a blow job if you said yes."

"Goodbye Mike."

She reached for the next photo, a 35 year old widow.

Dan moved through the growing crowd and found a remote chair at the far end of the bar, greeting everyone he knew with a smile and a few words, letting himself being seen as the gracious and kind man he had seemed to be since his arrival in town...

"Hey Ted hows the new house working out? Good? Great, I'm glad..."

"Jeff, hows your new baby and Mom doing, anything I can do to help with on that new addition?"

He danced a few dances with some of the Ladies in the dimly lit dance floor, returned and bought a few drinks for the men he knew, cultivating relationships like the one with the local police detective...

"Mike Jennings, where have YOU been? Out breaking hearts I'm sure, have a seat and a drink and catch me up on old times why don't you?"

Mike was a good enough fellow, a bit of a braggart, but then weren't most men... covering up his lonliness with a brash exterior and simply happy to have anyone to talk to about his day, the information Mike leaked was kept confidential by Dan and used only his purposes, Mike's newest and exciting news of a serial killer perking up Dan's ears as they shared several drinks and watched the crowd inside the Lonely Heart, a young blond that Dan had seem inside the lounge several times before catching his eye and spurring him to step away and make a call...his voice low, deadly, calculated as he spoke...

"Table 3, yes... send her a glass on my account, I'll take care of it from there"

He moved back and took his seat smiling and joking, another half hour passing before the opportunity arrived, the blond rising from her chair and swaying a bit too much, so much so that several people noticed and Dan rose to steady her and speak...

"Say Miss... Looks like you're not feeling too well, perhaps you'd let on of our Cities finest Officers escort you home, or allow me to call a taxi for you? We like to think we take care of our own in this tiny 'burg and keeping you safe would be an honor"

It wasn't the first time Dan had done such a "good deed" both for men, women or couples who had too much fun and were unsteady, and many had praised Dan for his generousity which he had quickly dismissed with his usual humble reply... "If we don't take care of our friends, who will?"

The night drug on, and semi cute guys came up to Elizabeth, but none of them were worth her time. She'd decided to have one more drink, and then call a cab, claiming this an unsuccessful night.

Suddenly, Liz felt her eyes growing heavy, and she fought to hold her head up. I haven't had this much to drink have I? she asked herself, knowing that she hadn't. She'd had only one glass of whiskey, and then not even three of those fruity drinks she loved. This wasn't even a third of the usual she drank to get herself drunk. She knew something wasn't right, and she wanted to leave the place now.

She stood up to get her bag and immediately felt dizzy. Her legs felt like jell-o, and she placed a hand on the back of her chair to steady herself, but it didn't work. She felt herself falling and was preparing for impact with the floor but instead was blessed with a man's arms around her, steadying her.

"Say Miss... Looks like you're not feeling too well, perhaps you'd let on of our Cities finest Officers escort you home, or allow me to call a taxi for you? We like to think we take care of our own in this tiny 'burg and keeping you safe would be an honor"

She looked at the man, and though his face was blurry she'd recognized him. She'd been watching him that night hoping he'd come up to her. She saw him talking to everyone in the place, the cops even, and he seemed friendly enough, but she wasn't feeling well at all, she felt as if she was going to pass out. There's no way I had this much .. someone put something in my drink, she thought, but she couldn't force herself to form words.

"S-something's wrong .." she mumbled, struggling to keep her vision from blurring even further; she was fighting the urge to lose consciousness. She wanted to leave now, but this man wasn't releasing his hold on her. She couldn't comprehend what he was saying as he spoke, something about a taxi, or an officer. Yes! The cops, she told herself, they'll get you home safe and then you can figure out what happened! She opened her mouth to try and speak but before words could leave her lips she lost the fight to stay awake, and went limp in the man's arms.

"Ummmm.....Mike?"

Dan stood with the unconscious woman in his arms and an expression of pure horror on his face, acting completely surprised at her "fainting" and as well that he had no clue what to do...

"She's passed out , I think, she was drinking?"

Mike took to the bait, puffing his chest out and taking the role of both savior and professional law enforcement officer, the only flaw in his plan coming when he realized he didn't have his car with him... a detail Dan had counted on in his subtle planning...

"God Mike, take MINE, it's the Mercedes parked outside the east doors, PLEASE? You can bring it back after she's safe in her own bed?"

He handed the keys and the unconscious woman over, a smattering of applause coming and directed to Mike as he carried the woman outside, and the first phase of Dan's plan fell into place.... By placing him in public sight with 50 alibi's as someone else set the mark up, and giving him another iron clad alibi as to why there would be hair and fingerprints from the soon to be missing woman in his car...

Dan held the doors, made sure Mike buckled the woman in, then moved back inside to order a double, waiting for Mike's return and taking the good natured jostling of the other patrons about his confusion and terror over what to do with the unconscious woman in his arms... his plan falling perfectly in place...

Joey watched as the drugged woman was handed off from one man to the other, felling no guilt at his part in it and telling himself if he hadn't taken the money and done the deed someone else would have, but what he thought was curious was the man who DID take the drugged woman out of his place was an officer of the law.

It wasn't the first time he had gotten "the call" and the voice was scary enough on it's own though the pay was good, but add to it the man being a Cop? He shrugged it off and went back to work, filling the drink orders, making sure the music was endless and watching the tables to make sure his patrons were fully enjoying the ambiance of his magical Lonely Hearts Lounge

Mike Jennings once was one of the cities finest, but that had been a few years, a few too many beers, and a few too many indiscretions of the power of the badge he wore... Five years ago he was at the peak of his game and career, now he was on the down hill slide and gaining momentum fast, unaware that his last indiscretion would be his doom...

Mike escorted the unconscious woman home as promised, rifled her pockets and found the keys to her house, then carried her limp, shapely form to her door and let them both in. He took his time depositing her on her own bed, finding a dusty bottle of bourbon and a glass stashed in a cupboard and ice in her fridge to mix a stout drink before returning to admire her figure unconscious on top of her bed.

"You've too many clothes on to be comfortable my fallen dove"

He drank deep and set the glass aside, undressing her with trembling, damp fingers, pausing to admire her youthful flesh and ripe curves as they revealed themselves to his lustful eyes until she lay nude before him and he undressed himself to join her on the beds surface, his lips, hands and fingers probing her body until she groaned in her forced slumber and spread herself to him, his cock taking her swiftly, driving deep into her unknowing body until too soon he shuddered into climax and filled her with his thin seed...

"Sleep well my fallen dove, and dream the dream of innocence"

He spoke grandly as if to give his deed honor, draining the last of his drink before dressing and taking his leave, the door he brought her through left unlocked and the keys in his pocket as he returned to the Lonely Heart Lounge to finish his evening...

~~~~~~
"Welcome back Mike Jennings!!! OUR HERO!"
The crowd roared in approval and Dan joined in, buying the next round quietly, and then the next, accepting the keys to his returned car and quietly hiding his surprise as he found a second set in his hands as well, the guessed purpose of them making his eyes glitter as he waited for the party to end... and he made his way back to the drugged womans house.
"How sloppy you've become Mr Jennings"
Dan Charming slipped on a set of gloves outside the house and pushed open the door, his eyes picking up a trail of evidence a blind man could follow, the dusty bottle showing a clear and full hand print, the spilled trail of booze leading to the bedroom where the unconscious and raped figure of Liz lay, the forgotten glass on her night stand telling that she hadn't been the only pleasure the detective had taken.
"At least he didn't damage you where it could be seen, it would be a shame to waste you, wouldn't it... Liz?"
Dan slipped a ball gag into place, making quick work of binding her wrists behind her back and then ankles tightly together, his eyes admiring her face as he pulled a heavy, dark canvas sack over her head and tied it at her neck, then lifted her gently into his arms to step outside into the cool air and redeposit her into his car, the second set of well cleaned keys lying atop her nightstand and the door of the house locked behind him as they drove away...
"Don't hurt yourself my pretty little angel"
Dan spoke hours later as he lifted the now semi conscious woman into his arms and carried her into a shuttered lumberyard
"We want your FIRST video to show that terrified but flawless face of yours clearly, don't we?"
He deposited her in a chair bolted securely to the floor, locking her ankles and wrists to it's sturdy frame, then moving to the tripod and waiting recorder to turn it on before returning to pull off the canvas sack to reveal Liz's terrified face as he spoke, not to her but the video recorder.
"This is for YOUR eyes only Rio, show it to anyone else and you get this angel and maybe yourself killed... and that would be a terrible shame as this game is only.... beginning"
Last night was a blur. She had a headache from hell and didn't want to open her eyes. This is one hell of a hangover, she thought to herself. The last thing she remembered was being carried out the bar, embarrassingly, by a handsome police officer. At least he got her home safe...
She tried to take a breath and remember the night, but she felt something in her mouth, holding it open. She tried to reach up and feel what it was, but she couldn't move her arms. She jerked them again but felt a sharp pain in her wrist, as if something was digging into it. She finally opened her eyes, but everything was blurry. Liz hadn't fully regained consciousness,and she fought to clear her vision. She blinked a few times and tried to look around, she had no idea where she was. She saw a shadow of a man, and a bright light in her face.
She tried to move her legs, but they were restrained too. She shook her entire body, realizing that the chair too was bolted to the ground. Panic and fear surged through her body. She tried to scream, but not a sound came from behind the gag that was shoved in her mouth. Tears flooded her face as she feared for her life. She felt herself slipping away again, and she fought to stay awake, to figure out where she was and how she got here, but once again she lost the battle and drifted again into unconsciousness.
She heard the man's words before she did, and clung to the word "kill" as her fear overcame her.
