Favorite books with a gay/bi theme?

I didn't know they filmed Fingersmith? Tipping the Velvet (another Sarah Waters) was done by the BBC and it was great - lesbian film on the Beeb! Fingersmith is a great book and so, of course, is Tipping the Velvet, although the TV series does not follow the book accurately. If you wish to follow them up, both are by Sarah Waters.

Hi there!

Yep, they did film 'Fingersmith' on BBC, and I even started a thread on it, LoL. It was a lot closer to the book than 'Tipping the Velvet' in my opinion. The ending was just so precious in the TV adaptation.

Did you know Sarah Waters is coming out w/ another book soon? It's not going to be from that period drama as 'TTV,' 'Fingersmith' or 'Affinity.' I cannot wait for it to come out! *smiles* :rose:

Hi DustyWolfe!

Yes it is the Diana Tregarde series. It's been a loooooong time since I read them, the first one I believe is called Burning Water and is one of my three all time favorite books.
I can't remember if it has any gay or bi characters in it but I liked this series of three books and wanted more when she had to quit it due to harassment.

The Valdemar series is good too but I am a bit tired of that whole genre these days so I only read one and quit it. The drawings are great though. I think I may have seen a quote or epitaph in one of her books though about Woe. If you know it. I am looking for it. Would love to have it someday. Something about "Woe is me, all that I thought right, others thought wrong. All that I thought wrong, others thought right." For some reason I associate with her books, Valkyrie and Wagner. Okay that was a little off topic but I hunger for that quote and if I ever find it again I will not let it go.

Yes, I too adore Nevada Barr's books and in a SRP here called Huntress.....Predator, I have her portrayal of a ranger in mind when I write my character. I also made a vampire character with that in mind and she is the one who lead me to cyber, BDSM and eventually here to lit.

The Greg Herren is just a good fun read! I will read anything he puts out when I see it on the shelf! I am a story teller and former librarian. I love books. I'm never happy if I don't have a stack of at least ten books bedside waiting for me to devour. Before becoming Internet addicted I'd read one every two days or so. Now I'm much slower but hey! Having a whole lotta fun!

*hugs and kisses*

Fury

Have fun!

The Boy Who Picked Up The Bullets - by Charles Nelson

---Kurt Strom, a gay medic who volunteered for duty in Vietnam, describes his experiences in letters to his friends and family.---

---"A picaresque, erotic adventure with plenty of sex; it's about the Vietnam war with it's unrelenting madness and horror; it's about being gay, especially in the military; and finally, it's about men and how they treat themselves and each other."---
---Ray O'Loughlin - The S.F. Sentinel---

Fascinating fictional account of the Vietnam war from the perspective of a gay soldier, or medic. I first bought this book back in '82 when it was first published and was way ahead of it's time in regards to homosexuality in the military.
It makes me wonder if another book such as this isn't already at the press in regards to the Gulf War and the war in Iraq...

I didn’t really enjoy Affinity but still finished it so that says something, I suppose. *smile* I’ll keep an eye out for the new one. Thank you.

Diana's close friend and upstairs neighbor was gay; I can't quite remember but I think his name was Lenny or some such and his lover's name was Keith. He's only "in" the first Tregarde novel, Children of the Night. There is a brief mention of him in Burning Water. It's been a while since I've read Jinx High but I believe there was a brief mention there, too. Both of the boys contracted HIV and developed full blown AIDS. Keith was dead by Burning Water, and Lenny was ill.

In reply to the original question...

I love Girljock. It's become my sporty jocky geeky bisexual Bible in some things.

Lots to choose from....

I am really big fan of Mercedes Lackey she is my fave Fantasy author. I have read and own almost all of the Valdemar series it is wonderful stuff.... But there are several other things out there. If you are lookin for more young adult sort of stuff Alex Sanchez has this Rainbow Boysseries that deals with a group of friends in highschool ...
Christopher Rice has 2 good books that have gay characters and there are some suspense to his novels.
I have read Greg Herrens books and they are good too.
I have been a member of a book club called ISO that is centered around books of the GLBTpersuasion. It is wonderful stuff and there is so much to offer.
