OMG CW!! Kenny G slipped my mind, somehow. I love a good sex! er sax well both; you know...

WHITE CHRISTMAS by Bing Crosby (written by Irving Berlin)
is the best Christmas song, ever! As novelty songs go, I
adore THE HIPPO SONG by Gayla Peavy and THE CHANNUKAH SONG
by Adam Sandler. <FYI, I am not Jewish> I also have to hear
the entire NUTCRACKER SUITE by Tchaikovsky or it isn't Christmas.
And seriously, the best Christmas album is A CHRISTMAS PORTRAIT
by the Carpenters.

Wench, I like your taste. We were married on December 29, the fifth day of Christmas, so of course we left the church to the strains of Go Tell It on the Mountain. We usally have a Twelfth-nite party, where we combine christmas, anniversary, etc into an open house with christmas music getting it's last airing for the year. We end up with a sing a long arround the piano. Great fun.

Traditional carols here, although I love Amy Grant's Christmas album from several years ago. Her version of "Emmanuel" is amazing. I also love "White Christmas", Justin bought the video for me several years ago. Mannheim Steamroller is awesome, their version of "Carol of the Bells" is one of the best. Justin liked all the novelty songs, so we have a tape of some of those.

Current favorite:

Harry Connick, Jr. - When My Heart Finds Christmas

Excellent CD. Highly recommend it.

And Sonora, I agree with you. Karen Carpenter still breaks my heart.

The Best Christmas CD is by The Roches, "We Three Kings"
Not an easy thing to find but worth the hunt.

And the best cover remake is John Mellencamp's version of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus"

The Christmas Song--Nat King Cole

I'll Be Home for Christmas--Perry Como

Have Yourselves a Merry Little Christmas--Tony Bennett

I too, grew up listening to my parent's Christmas albums and the carols still play an essential part in making a Merry Christmas...

"It's the most wonderful time of the Year"

The Christmas music I heard as a child always stirs memories, my folks were into Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby, The Lettermen and Andy Williams, so naturally I love hearing this corny stuff still. Doris Day, why not?

It wouldn't be Christmas without Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite," the "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" somehow never grows old on me. If you've never heard a new age group called "Hearts of Space," their hypnotic, peace-filled Christmas music will give you comfort and joy, I guarantee.

I love the dumb stuff too. My kids and I were singing along with the Chipmunks this morning in the car, and that song by Brenda Lee, "Rockin' around the Christmas Tree...." what is the name of that song?

Elvis-Blue Christmas

Porky Pig-Blue Christmas

Gradpa Jones-The Stranger

Dolly Parton-Hard Candy Christmas

Bing Crosby-White Christmas

Brenda Lee-Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

Merle Haggard-If We Make It Through December

The novality songs that I don't like are the ones that imply that if you don't get good gifts, you are bad person. You know the ones Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, I Aint Gettin Nuttin' for Christmas, and their ilk. I've worked with to many impoverished families to see the presure that this idea puts on parents, not to mention what it does to a kids self image. One of the reasons that my 'extra ' charity $ goes to suporting 'Toys for Tots" and other programs that help see that these kids have the things that they need, and a few things that they want.

I thought I was the only one. It's the best, bar none. Find it, people. It's become a family tradition in my house. It's glorious, melodious, and jam-packed.

Nat King Cole's Christmas CD is on of my top two, that and one by the Philadelphia Brass Ensemble -

My personal two favorites.

Well, those and John Denver and the Muppet's Christmas CD.

I'm playing Christmas music

early this year. I think I'm just expecting to make this a very happy one. I usually don't like hearing it until a week or so prior.

Vince Gill's Christmas cd...Excellent
I agree with the two others on here about Karen Carpenter - losing her beautiful voice to anorexia was heartbreaking.
Elvis
Dolly Parton

"I'll be Home For Christmas"
"Oh Little Town of Bethleham"
"Blue Christmas"
"Noel"

'It Doesn't Have To Be That Way'
A fringe Christmas song really, but any reason to play Jim Croce is fine with me.

It's Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiistmaaaaaas!

I like about half of the christmas songs. I especially like Silent Night in German and I have this wonderful version of 'the First Noel' that actually sound like it's snowing. And there is something about 'God rest ye merry Gentlemen' that I love. But the best christmas song of all time (that I know of) is Slade's '(So here it is) Merry Christmas.

It has been a while since I sang carols, but I play the trumpet in a brass band on the yuletide.

Good point. I've never thought of it that way. I'm not crazy about the whole gift giving thing of Christmas. Just too many people struggle as it is without the burden of thinking that they have to buy things for people that don't want/need them and kids that feel left out/forgotten/sad because they didn't get what they wanted or even anything at all. I think that the holidays are a very sad time of the year.

Oh no! They are not a sad time at all. But heir really must be more to it then simoly giving and recieving gifts, eating and drinking too much, and the best parties of the year.

To try to keep the gift expectations under controll, we give our kids three basic gifts: Something towear, Something to read, and Something to play with. Everything else is extra.

finally, we try very hard to stay focused on the fact that this holiday is celebrating and recalling the time that God became Man and dewlt amoung us.
