Kathleen Vance walked out of the house wearing only her blue bathrobe and slippers, and she strolled over to the mailbox and flipped the lid down so she could reach in and grab the stack of white envelopes. She started to sort through them as she walked back to the house, separating the junk mail from the more important letters… name those that were addressed to her. “Junk,” Kat said as she continued to flip through the letters, though her curiosity was eventually piqued when she came across an envelope from Professional Photographer magazine. “Ooh. I got a let-let-letter. I got a let-let-letter.” Her green eyes widened with delight once she finally tore the letter open with one of her sharp claws and read the enclosed notation.

"Holy shit," she said, then read it again just to make sure she wasn't seeing things. Unable to contain her excitement, she carelessly dropped the other letters and raced into the living with her Golden Ticket. Her bushy tail swooshed back and forth behind her as she went to find her housemates to tell them the good news, and she either didn't notice or was too excited to care that her robe had started to slip a little, exposing a generous sampling of her cleavage.

"Evan! Evan you're not going to believe this! Evan! Evan! Evan! Evan!"

As soon as she found him she interrupted whatever he was working on to thrust out her letter so that he could read it.

"I got in! Can you believe it? They want me! ME! I can't... I need... I need to start packing. I've got to pack. Oh man, I can't believe it. Pinch me!"

Kat was practically jumping out of her fur, but somehow she managed to keep herself from bursting through the ceiling. She'd worked so hard to get to where she was, and even though she wasn't being called on by National Geographic, she considered this her first big step into the world of professional photography. Hell, the offer was from PPM... it couldn't have been more à propos. The young anthro raced upstairs to her bedroom and shut the door behind her. She slipped out of her robe and got dressed, throwing on a pair of khaki shorts and a tank top before she started to dig around in her closet for her suitcase.

A sandy brown haired man stared at a lone computer keyboard with a fierce intensity. It was as if he expected the keys to move by themselves or through some form of telekinesis. No matter how hard he tried, however, nothing placed itself onto the blank document upon the screen without his direct input, and therein lied the problem.

Evan Walker's face soon found the keyboard, managing to type a jumble of letters that said absolutely nothing of value whatsoever. "Muhhhh..." Was all he could utter. Writing video game reviews was a dream job for a lot of people, including himself, but that didn't mean it was easy. No, writing a review was easy, however writing a good one that really told a person what they could expect out of the experience without succumbing to common tropes was the difficult part. Especially when the site he worked for, SuperNuke, was pretty well-respected in the community. There were people who depended on him to be honest, even if he had to tell them the new Call of Battle was junk.

Whatever little train of thought he had was soon launched out the window when his feline housemate came rushing through into his room full of joyous energy.

"Ahhh!" He cried, nearly jumping out of his chair at the sudden and surprising entrance.

Kat quickly shoved a letter into his hands, however it, along with her words, were barely noticed due to Evan's eyes happening to focus on her conveniently loose bathrobe. He did, however hear 'pinch me' at the end, though as he reached out to oblige she had already disappeared. Evan took the opportunity of his return to solitude to actually observe the item she handed him.

"A week-long seminar..." He read out loud, rising from his chair to follow after the giddy girl in hopes of getting some more information out of her. As he entered the hall he noticed the third housemate and his long-time friend Pip, standing with a lighter and can of flammable hairspray.

"All I heard was screaming. Was it the spider again? Because I came prepared." He explained proudly, as if he had the entire situation under control.

"No! No spider, and give me that!" Evan yanked the lighter out of the stocky bird's hands. "Setting my bathroom on fire once was enough. Anyway, Kat got some invitation to a week-long seminar in the city. Apparently they're covering a hotel room and everything..."

"Sweet. When do we leave?"

"I'm pretty sure there is no we. Just be happy for her for once and stop thinking about what it'll get you! She could potentially get some big recognition from this, maybe even a job..." Evan explained, his voice fading a bit at the end as a realization hit him. If she got a good job from this, she could be set... and she probably wouldn't need to live with them anymore...

Evan shook his head. He was already doing what he just berated Pip for. Only thinking about how this would affect him instead of just being happy for his friend. He approached Kat's bedroom door and knocked lightly.

"Heeey! This is pretty cool! Are you uh.. leaving immediately..?"

After Kat had changed back into her regular clothes, she started digging around in her closet for her suitcase. She knew it was in there somewhere, buried underneath piles of cardboard boxes and loose clothing. Her tail swished back and forth behind her as she poked around for a little while, and when she finally wrapped her clawed fingers around the handle her eyes opened wide with delight.

"Get! Over! Here! Ahh!"

Kat managed to lug the empty traveling case out of the death trap that was her closet, and threw it down onto her bed. The sudden jerking of the mattress caused her pet platypus, Leonard, to fall off the side of the bed and, unfortunately, land on the part of her floor that wasn't covered with a soft carpet.

"Awww," Kat cooed, and put aside her packing to bend down and pick him back up. "Here ya go. Sorry about that."

She patted him on the head and then moved over to her dresser to start pulling out clothes. She'd only just started to sort through some of her best shirts when she heard a gentle knocking at her door, which was unusual considering her housemates tended to just barge in and herald the end of the world. It was either that or they needed her to run down to the store and pick up some supplies for the pantry.

"Uh, enter?"

"Heeey! This is pretty cool! Are you uh.. leaving immediately..?"

"Nuh-uh," Kat said as she started to fold a shirt into halves, then ran her hand down the front of it to smooth out the wrinkles before placing it into a separate pile. "The seminar's not for a few weeks. I guess I should put in for some time off from work, though."

Kat reached forward and grabbed the shirt she had just folded, then unfurled it and threw it back into her dresser. Leonard had tried going back to sleep, but the constant talking and shuffling of dresser drawers prevented him from counting any sheep.

"I don't think Ann will mind," Kat continued as she began folding another shirt. "Work's been kind of slow, lately. But you know what... that's okay because I get to go to the city. Well actually," Kat trailed off for a moment as she reached for the invitation letter that Evan was carrying with him and breezed down the lines. "I get to bring a guest with me."

She glanced at Leonard, but she was pretty sure that pets didn't count. She was pretty sure that Ann would be busy, and she definitely didn't want to take Pip.

"Want to come with me? We'll have such a blast!"

"Yes, why I'd love to come. So nice of you to offer." Pip responded curtly while appearing from behind Evan.

Evan could only give an icy glare, which was too chilling for even the penguin to withstand. "Fine, I'll leave, but when you return to see me having carved my indentation into the sofa because I was too depressed to move since my best friends abandoned me, just remember it was your fault."

"It'll be something that haunts me forever, I'm sure. Though probably not for the reason you'd like..." Evan sighed, pushing him out of the room. He was actually a bit thankful for Pip's intrusion as he might have reacted a bit too happily to Kat's offer at first. He was really glad she considered him a good enough friend to actually want to spend that time with him.

"Yeah, I think it might be good to get away from this place for a bit. Can't really remember the last time I took any sort of vacation.

Well there was that gaming convention Pip and I planned on attending for the full three days but I suppose I forgot to warn him about not touching the cosplayers...

Really that seems like something that goes without saying..."

Evan shook his head free of those disturbing memories and looked back at his feline housemate. "This seminar though, it could potentially be a big deal, right...?" He asked hesitantly.

Kat's ears perked up as soon as Pip made his presence known inside the bedroom, and she folded her arms across her chest while Evan silently rebuked his "generous" acceptance of an invitation that was obviously meant for someone else. She was, however, slightly disturbed by the thought of Pip ruining their furniture while they would be away. Even so, she could only bring one guest, so in the likely event that their housemate did destroy the house, they'd just have to suffer through it.

And sell his collection of ultra rare comics.

"...but I suppose I forgot to warn him about not touching the cosplayers... Really that seems like something that goes without saying."

"Oh, like you've never wanted to touch the cosplayers?"

Kat rolled her eyes as she turned to continue with her preparations.

"This seminar though, it could potentially be a big deal, right...?"

"HUUUGE!" Kat exclaimed, her lips curling into a wide grin as she scrunched up one of her shirts in excitement. "I mean, it didn't seem like one of those generic blah blah letters. So yes, this could be my big change. I wonder where they'll send me. I've always wanted to go to Egypt and see the Pyramids. Or Greece... oh I'd love to go to Greece. You know what... we need to go out to dinner and celebrate."
