Fight Club

I'd argue that, but I have absolutely no idea who Dan Hardy is and he doesn't appear to have beaten many people of not, so I'm forced to conclude GSP probably will wreck him.

Well, Hardy is tough, no doubt. GSP's weakness will be that he isn't a KO fighter, whereas Hardy is. Still, my money's on the Canuck.

Too funny, went to H&R Block to get my taxes done and the woman helping me out was this very attractive, slip of a girl. As she's entering stuff in the computer, I look over at her calendar and in the March 27th square she had "UFC" written in HUGE letters. I started laughing, I said, "Are you really a UFC fan?"

She was. We had the most excellent conversation! (She also thinks GSP is going to wipe the floor with Hardy).

L's so excited. He can't wait for Saturday.

I took kickboxing for awhile and love fights. I go to a local dojo on Friday nights where they spar all night including grappling. I am shit with who from what group etc. I just love watching people. For years I watched boxing but MMA is now my thing.

Remember that fight into song thing. How about this.

It would be even better if you could shoot lightening bolts out of your ass or something, to go with it.

Yeah, I used to watch boxing back in the day...snore. Welcome to Fight Club!

So, I was too tired to recap last night but here's my post-fight review...

The judges were on crack for the first fight between Miller & Bocek. Unanimous decision for Miller? Come the fuck on! I could have lived with a split decision but Bocek owned round 2, no question.

Fitch was in fine form against Saunders. Kudos to him.

Camoes (Brazilian) and Pellegrino were two guys I'd never heard of. I thought the Brazilian was going to take it from the way the fight opened but Pellegrino submitted him with a lovely rear naked choke in round two. Good fight.

What happened to Frank Mir? Holy crap. He came out all loose and relaxed and I thought, 'Oh he's playing this guy, letting him get gassed, then he's going to make a move.' Nope. Carwin just unloaded a volley of uppercuts and Mir folded like a bad Ponzi scheme. Done. Thanks for comin' out. I'll be curious to see how Carwin fares against Lesnar, though.

The main event! GSP vs Hardy

OK, I gotta hand it to Hardy, the guy is tough as shit! GSP had him in an arm bar AND a kimora and Hardy hung on and slipped out of both! Can't believe it. I honestly thought GSP was gonna break the poor guy's arm when he had the kimora and the expression on Hardy's face...wow...it looked like he was giving birth. Ouch.

However, Hardy, Hardy, Hardy...how do you go into a fight with GSP with no take down defense whatsoever?? GSP tossed him around through all five rounds. I don't think Hardy ever landed a stand up punch. Heck, I don't think he ever stood up for more than thirty seconds, if that.

I was a bit disappointed with GSP, though, to me it looked like he missed several opportunities to finish Hardy off and didn't.

But I still love him.

What an athlete!! He deserves his belt, no question! Well done GSP! :D

Anderson Silva...WTF?

F went out to see the fight, he said it was embarrassing, Silva behaved like a total dick.

Also, Silva has said he's going to drop a weight class so he can fight GSP for his belt. THAT could be an interesting fight.

Well, looks like Silva has redeemed himself. That was the best front snap kick I have ever seen in my life. The guy is a machine.
Wow.

Can anyone defeat this guy?

Anyone?

*crickets*

Errr... the spider? What the fuck is this guy doing in UFC? I remember him from way back. They said I fight like him. South pawed, long reach, lot's of knees and elbows, inside kicks, back of the knee stuff. Does he still fight like that?

Are you kidding me? Silva is the eight-time undefeated champion in his weight class (middleweight). Yes, he still has a freakishly long reach. His fighting style? The guy is amazingly loose and relaxed when he goes out there. he basically dances around, waits for the other guy to make a move then zips in and finishes him off. BAM.

Now, to be fair, in the previous fight to this one, he almost did get beaten - the first opponent who put up a real fight. And if it had gone to the judges Silva would have lost. However, right at the end he got the guy in a triangle and...game over.

Yea, sounds just like a pride fighter, making a fool of UFC.

Anyway, crazy story. This guy he did some crazy kicking Korean style. He could kick you like that from 10 -15 feet away. It's like the only guy you want to run away from when he backs up. Not fun dealing with that guy, not fun at all.

That fight proved that the basics work. You just have to get fuck-all good with them. Most people think the front snap kick is a joke, and, well, less of a joke after you watch Belfort's head snap back like that.

Personally, I think the idea of a GSP/Silva bout is a bad one. Whichever one moves weight classes will be at a massive disadvantage, and will likely produce a lackluster effort. Either Silva will be underweight and weak, or GSP will be bulky and slowed. I just don't see it being a good fight unless they let whoever is moving weight classes take some serious time to make the shift, and then get used to it.

Yeah, as much as I'd love to see those two juggernauts go at it, I have to agree. I remember when BJ Penn moved weight classes - quel disaster!

And what's funny about the Silva fight is L has been yammering at me for ages, "Why doesn't anyone use the front snap kick?". As you can imagine, he was rightly smug on Saturday night. LOL.

This thread is a dark stain on the calm and friendly people of Canada. Make love, not war! I remember you once mentioned issues with your teeth. Now I wonder if you might have lost some in a fight. Rough and tough K? When I was in Canada, the sport I saw the most of was lawn bowling. Of course, that was 1962.

Just kidding on you, but I've never gotten into a sport where people hit each other in the face/head. Don't anybody hit me. I'll show my self out.

LOL. You either have a taste for it or you don't. It's basically non-sexual, non-BDSM, consensual violence, which is fine by me. I'm still a "make love not war" proponent, have no fear. ;)

I'll never forget the first time I got hit in the head, really hard. I was fighting this ex-Navy dude. All muscle and tough as hell. Right cross. My jaw swung to one side like a typewriter carriage. My first thought was, "Oh my Cod that hurts! I'm going to cry!" My second thought was, "Nah, it doesn't hurt that bad. And now I'm mad!" I think that's when I knew I'd found my calling.

As for my teeth, that was all me...grinding in my sleep.

The trouble with a kick like that is you are basically handing your leg over. The only use, other than the opportune moment, I have found for it is to kick out from a leg block. Cause the block has your leg chambered you can kick out really quick and hit them while one footed and shifting balance.

It's really, really risky though, if they catch your leg, they could end your walking days very easily. Particular because they have the option of just dropping their weight, that's a lot of force.

It's probably a lot more useful in real combat as opposed to sport. Great for training though.

Also, just for Kay, her favoritest thing ever Catfight Club
the second part is really funny too :D

I welcome UFC to the Rogers Center for UFC 127, its got a great card and will be my first live event! GO GSP! Really looking forward to seeing Couture fight too, he was one of my favorites when I first started watching

so my kid, the 13 year old wrestler, said "you know what I would REALLY like to do? I'd like to do that MMA fighting mom. It's really safe, honestly. "

Let her try it.

Classes will give her a good opportunity to see if it's something she really enjoys, in a safe and controlled environment. Hey, no martial arts is "safe" but neither is football or skiing. Yeesh, I know figure skaters and gymnasts who suffered far worse injuries than I ever did when I fought.
