Hi everyone,

I know this a long shot but would anyone be interested in working on a film for me if I provide the script?

Real answer: people who know how to film have their own ideas and scripts. Unless you simply contract them out for money, they won't just want to make your idea for you, no matter how good it is.

Yes. A friend of mine wanted me to convert my novel into a play. I don’t know film. I know plays. It just wouldn’t have worked. Too many scene changes. And it spanned many decades. The characters aged.

Not always. Sometimes you can share ideas and others really like it and want to work on it, but yeah, usually you're hiring people unless they're also passionate about it.

So, @al55, it would help to know more about this idea, as well as what roles you're looking for from other people. Do you need actors? Voice actors? Animators? Editors? What exactly is the project in question? I'll admit curiosity on my part, so I'd love to hear more :)

Thank you Anthrodisiac and everyone! Sorry if I keep spamming the forum with ideas, most of them have not come to fruition - I have tonnes of ideas it's just the time to implement, you know?

My hope was to write a film script and get it made by amateurs here on the forum but I don't know if that is possible. Failing that, I was going to write an audio script and see if that is easier to get made into a movie. I'd also be open to an animated movie, too!

I have three projects I am working on:

1. An adaptation of my novel The Zoo into a film script if possible
2. An audio drama called Transformation Alley where contestants are turned into different species / things
3. An orginal audio story

What do you think?

I'd really love to get a creative project on the screen done if possible!

Having tons of ideas and never having enough time to get around to them? No, nobody here has any idea what that's like... :p

I wonder if there are amateur movie enthusiast forums or something similar. Maybe Reddit or something? Not trying to foist you off elsewhere, I just don't know how much film experience you'll find in an authors hangout, you know?

As for the audio, that might be more feasible. There's an Audio Creators Booth, though I see you already posted something there. If you don't get any hits there, then again, you might be better off searching for voice actors, put out the call on social media (for both the audio and film projects), if there are people who've made similar amateur films, maybe approach them with your idea, or any voice actors you like in particular, a lot of them are game for hiring. I know there's a decently sized group of voice actors who have no qualms with erotic content, though specifically where to find them, not entirely sure. Search is probably your friend here.

Also realize that if you're going for quality, unless you find people who're similar impassioned about this type of story, you'll need to be prepared to pay for services. You might want to consider what type of budget you're willing to entertain (if any), and tailor your expectations with the amount of money you're willing/able to spend on these projects. Maybe there are others here who have better ideas about all this, I'm not well-connected or majorly entrenched in any major non-Lit networks, but I know others who've been able to find artists and might have relevant experience on how to approach that.

Hopefully you're able to have some luck and find some people :)

I feel like further elaboration is required, because I don't want to show up to casting call and then be kidnapped and surgically turned into a mermaid again.
“A ‘casting aquarium’? I don’t know what you mean, miss. This is just a regular fish tank, purely for decorative purposes. I assure you there is nothing to the fact that it takes the entire southern wall. Now, would you mind signing here?”
“Hmm, okay… Wait, why does it say ‘no liability for harm to life and limb and fin’?”
“This, uh, this is just standard legal wording. Look, we don’t have time —“
“‘Expected working conditions may include 100% humidity?!’ Alright, I think I’m out.”

Here's a fix: hyper focus on only one thing until it's done, destroy the rest. Not everything needs to be developed, and take only the things at your disposal. Only when that one thing is done you can do the other.

Experience is doing the talk here.

I recently went to a panel at a con about Indi Web Animation development. While that's not entirely what you're looking for, what you want is considerably easier, given that you don't need to focus on the visual aspect that takes them so long to put out their material. Their suggestion for casting was to put out calls on Twitter or the like. Seriously. These were arts students working on a project (so no real expectation of monetary gain) and, apparently, most of their cast actually came from casting calls like that.

Also, make sure to check out the Audio Creators Booth sub-forum above for great resources.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I can see that it is unlikely anyone would make a movie if I wrote a film script, would I have a better chance if I wrote audio scripts?

Thanks for the advice everyone! I really like this community! Sorry for all the mermaid ideas, it is my thing!

I think the script is the smallest problem.

What I am considering is

- actors
- places
- costumes
- technical equipment
- regisseur

--------------------------------------------> costs

Very true! I don't see any amateurs doing this unfortunately.

It's not impossible, if you have the drive. When I was in college, I helped a trio out with a film they made as a senior project. One of them, a fraternity brother of mine, went on to enter at least one film in the indi circuit (I got to see him at the NH Film Fest). Another moved to Hollywood and schmoozed his way to Ben Stiller. I got a call from another friend who said, "you remember Rawson, Dodgeball is his baby!" You just have to be willing to take rejection over and over and have confidence in your story.
