I just finished a Blondie and Dagwood story for Borrowed Plumes, and I've been kicking around how to use it outside of Lit.

Beyond renaming everyone and removing obvious references to the comic strip goings on, I though about perhaps rewriting it as a classic 50s sitcom, complete with laugh tracks and commercial breaks. The commercials of course, would be filthy.

I sort of grew up on syndicated TV shows like I Love Lucy and All in the Family, Alice, etc. Seems like it could be a lot of outrageous fun.

Has anyone done anything similar? How did it go?

I haven't done anything like that, but it sounds creative. Give it a try.

I grew up on the old syndicated shows, too. I remember watching them in the 70s after school. Gilligan's Island, the Munsters, Brady Bunch, Partridge Family. Star Trek. Bewitched. Flintstones, too. Addams Family. I can imagine turning Gilligan's Island into a fun sex romp. I don't think it would be too difficult to change things enough that it would be, for practical purposes, copyright infringement-proof, unless you made lots of money on it and caught the attention of the wrong people.

Did you know that there have been two Blondie and Dagwood sitcom TV series? I think both were named Blondie. Both ran for one season. There was also a Broadway production back in the 1930's.

The original characters in Blondie are in the public domain.
Very true. But only the earliest versions of them are. There are newer copyrights still in play though and thusly Amazon likely won't touch it.
So a little creative editing and Blondie and Dagwood become Candy and Dick, and Candy is a luscious red-head and Dick is less sandwich focused and hung like a horse.
So, I mix a little I Love Lucy with Dick Van Dyke and some other classics, while throwing out the rules of monogamy.
I've never looked forward to a rewrite before, but I am this one. I'm gonna do it. 😀

I especially like the filmed before a live audience angle. It wouldn't matter what IP exactly was being filmed. Could be anything. Imagine standing in line to see your favorite naughty show being filmed, then getting inside and seeing the characters go at it!

Sounds like fun. I'd love to read it once it's done.
