Finally bit the bullet and submitted the first chapter of my first story

Welcome to the world of writing. It can be very rewarding to create a nice story and see it published.

Expect anywhere from 3-7 days for it to get reviewed.

You asked about slow burn stories. Most of mine are just that. Mine were well received but I got a few comments over time that were like, ‘I normally scan through the story to get to the sex but after enjoying yours so much, I went back and reread it all.’

That pretty much tells me readers want the meat and potatoes. Yeah, they may go back and reread but I do see a trend of incredibly short, ‘wam bam’ type stories where the comments are ‘OMG! Best story ever!’

I suppose we live in a world where everyone is busy, overloaded with information, and just wants to get right down to the point without all the trimmings. Sad but that’s been my observation.
I think we also live in a world where there's enough variety that people can find what they specifically want, I'm writing to my personal taste (and it sounds like yours)

Thank you for answering some of my questions. I'm now worried my first chapter might be too short, it's only 1400 words
Don't take the length of my first chapter as any kind of yardstick.

I initially intended to publish a chapter at a time and each chapter was to represent a day in the long-weekend for my characters. It could easily have been broken in half.

The next 'day' weighed in over twice as long, at 32K words because I don't know when to shut up.

The third 'day' runs even longer, just shy of 38K words, but I decided to break it up into stages because *I* don't like epic-length chapters, and there's still one more piece to upload.

Depending on the type of story you're writing, shorter chapters can be entirely appropriate.
