I've recently moved and, unfortunately, found myself in need of a doctor. Nothing emergency room, or even clinic worthy, but I probably need antibiotics (and no, it's not an STD ).

Anyway, my insurance company has a website that provides contact info for doctors in my area, but any ideas on how to figure out which one I actually want to go to?

Thanks, HT, I know you won't let me down!

90% of them are not taking new clients. So go through and give them all a call. Make a new list of those that will take you. You may not have as much of a choice as you think unless you are in a large city.

New clients usually have to wait 6 wks for their first visit...therefore, you are better off going to a walk-in clinic to get the antibiotics now and then set up the appt for later so that you don't have to wait again.

I prefer women doctors...I feel they listen more attentively.

How well do you know people in the new locale, ie friends, co-workers, family, neighbors? You might consider asking for recommendations from them. Hell, I've even seen requests for recommendations on my HOA message boards. If you are not shy about talking to people about such things, you might end up with some good leads. Good luck.

I've had this problem myself as I've relocated from place to place and it's never fun, being "forced" to entrust your health to an unknown. Although I agree that asking a friend is the best approach, if that's not an option, there are several online sites that rate doctors, some for a fee and some free. Simply do a Google search on "doctor ratings" and you'll see a lot of them. Good luck.
