I was 21 just recently graduating from college and moving into the city to be on my own for my very first time. My parents helped me move into my new apartment and I was so close with them I was really going to miss all they help moving further away. I was nervous to live on my own but didn't want to live with a stranger as a roommate and didn't know anyone here yet.
As I watched my parents drive away the realization that I was truly alone set in and I felt a tear running down my cheek

I am relaxing on my balcony as my cell phone sounds. I realize it is a note notification. I find in my 41 years I have started to depend more on my computer/cell phone calendar and less on the old paper kind. The note says "Check in on new girl in apt 53. I slip a clean polo shirt on and head next door wearing some cargo khaki shorts with my favorite sandals.

As the building maintenance guy I do all the odd jobs from painting the rooms, to replacing lose towel wracks, to mowing the grass on the property.

I go next door and ring the door bell. I have no clue if the new girl is home or not, but I hope so. If not I can always come back later.

I open the door just a crack, surprised that someone is already here a little nervous because my parents would have text if they forgot something.

"Uh, hi can I help you?"

I smile and say "Hi I am Jon the building maintenance guy who happens to live next door. I just wanted to check in on you, and see how your doing. Is everything ok over here? I also wanted to welcome you to the building. If you need anything do not be shy to ask for a cup or sugar or something. I hope I did not come at a bad time so pop over and say hi."

"oh hey Jon! Thanks for checking in. Gosh actually I'm having some trouble getting a few pictures hung. Is that something you normally help with?'

I smile and say "I would be glad to help out, please put me to work."

I can only wonder how many pictures and where you will want them hung up at. Even tho this is out side my job, but with that look on her face I just can not turn the little sweetie down.
