Hello, just a quick question I'm sure has already been addressed but I couldn't find any that really answered mine. I submitted my first story on October 26 and it still says pending. Does it usually take this long for stories to be published? Is it because I'm new? Or something else? It has 7.6K words if that contributes to the time it takes for review. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Not short, but not especially long. I've heard that first stories may be slower than later ones.

That length is relatively short for this site.

I have heard that first-timers do take a little while longer, something about building a reputation for following the rules, I'd assume. Though the only time one of mine took weeks to resolve, it was because I uploaded the docx file rather than using the box (at least that's what I believe).

Most likely reasons are, as others have said, you're new, and you published in the middle of the Halloween contest. It also makes sense that longer stories could also take longer, but that doesn't apply in your case.
From my experience, uploading a docx file has no impact. With the exception of my 750 word stories, I've only ever used Word(.docx) and have had stories take weeks and some hours depending on the circumstance.
Once you hit two weeks, it might be worth a PM to Laurel to ask politely if there is a hold up. DO NOT resubmit the story. It will go to the back of the queue.

Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions. I'm not mad or upset for how long it's taking, more curios. If it doesn't get published be the end of the month (taking everything into consideration), I'll figure out how to PM Laurel to see if I got lost in great sea of stories. Ultimately it'll happen when it happens, right? Thanks again everyone.

Little envelope up in the right hand corner by your user name.
Select 'Start a New conversation' and put "Laurel" in the Recipients list.
I'd suggest putting your story name in the subject and a brief question about the release time in the text.

She may or may not reply, but she will most likely expedite your story. Key thing is to be polite and patient.
I usually suck up a little when I PM her, thanking her for all her hard work on the site, but that's just me. :)

(Just something about being a bisexual Trans Woman and sucking, I think.)

It can be frustrating and a little concerning when you've put in the hours and you want your story up, but they almost always go up eventually. Patience is a virtue here at Literotica! As always, great advice from all the other posters. 🤞 Hoping you see it go live soon.

For comparison: I submitted a new story last night at about 10:00pm my time zone. When I checked at about 3:00pm the next day, it was approved and will be published on the 9th.

Some categories take longer for approval, I believe. Non-Consent being one.

This story is Non-Consent.

Well, so much for that theory then. :)

I prefer to believe that Laurel just likes my stories and let me jump the queue.
When you've been here for some time and never had a reputation for being sketchy with your content, you do get through a more quickly than newer or problematic authors. I haven't seen more than 3 days for one of my stories to post in years. Same for a lot of authors with a fair amount of time invested here.

There have been quite a few posts about authors with stories pending longer than usual (I've had one pending since 10/18). Pretty sure something is just slowing them down at the moment
