Five Things Go Wrong, The RPG -- IC Adventure 1 "The Lost Boys"

The world warped before Tot’s eyes, causing him to bare his teeth in worry as he was suddenly falling in a different direction from where the Piper was walking. He glanced down at what appeared to be one of the pillars of the Terminus and grasped the hilt of his sword to bring the blade’s edge grinding against the earth. He gripped the sword tightly as he was pulled toward the pillar, the blade dragging like an anchor to slow his plummet until his feet met the stone figure. Tot crouched and when The Piper’s power wore off, he dropped from the side of the pillar to plop face down into the dirt—again.

“This is gettin’ old,” Tot growled, fanning the plume of dirt that rose about his face.

Using his sword as a cane, he recovered to his feet and scowled when he noticed that The Piper had vanished.

“Shit,” he cursed under his breath. A looney bin on the loose that was just great.

Tot quickly surveyed the area, noticing that not much had changed except for the damaged rat corpses that he remembered had given birth to numerous rats.

Please don’t become a problem later, Tot prayed. He didn’t want to see another rat or piper again, but seeing how neither of them could successfully kill the guy, the chances of them meeting again were still high.

Gazing down at the crude knife in his bare hand, Tot said to it, “Feed yourself before you make me sick.”

The blade turned a sanguine red and bubbling up from the earth were pools of blood from the slain. The blood reached out to wrap about the sword like thousands of ribbons. The veins on Tot’s neck and face swelled like tree branches as his eyes turned white. His black hair tossed about as he carried the sword over to the group, running in his eagerness to clear the area. His appearance might have startled them: 1) because he wasn’t missing an arm at that moment, and 2) while Blood Binge was in effect not only was his Eld being nourished but his body to some extent.

“We must pull back!” Tot yelled.

They were dealing with a situation that they knew nothing about. They had injured teammates who were priority, especially the Knight of the Veil who may have been their only hope for learning what had happened. The sooner they were able to get her stable, then the better.

Vanora watched the pool of mercurial silver as it seemed to slowly ooze its way across the rest of the terminus that now laid in ruins before them. The way it seemed to almost absorb any organic material that laid before it was almost mesmerizing, and she had to force herself to pull away her gaze occasionally to try and check on Blair's progress with the knight as the level of silver seemed to slowly rise upwards. By the time she turned back towards the rest of the party the silver seemed to almost crest over the small earthern wall that she created as temporary shield.

"I think it might be wise for us to try and move on from this place for the time being before this silver substance becomes our undoing. It seems as though the strange piper has fled, and it seems like this may be our chance to finally make our way to our destination, unless anyone has other ideas?" Vanora asked with a sigh as she turned back towards her party, watching as the Knight of the Veil seemed to find her strength and stand among them.

"Not the Kalek," The Knight of the Veil hissed, her eyes going wide. She shivered breathing deep. "Oh no, no, no, no." Her head bobbed and her eyes fluttered. She shook her head.

"Hush girl," Captain Blair murmured, hugging the Knight of the Veil to him. "Sir Knight, how do we escape? The voices in my head are but confusions." What this might refer to was anyone's guess. "It will devour us, won't it."

"Yes," the Knight said, "The Kalek seeks..." Her breath came out ragged, and she just noticed the stump of her hand. "My hand!" her eyes went wide and she fainted again.
