So what do you do when someone hands you a gallon ziploc bag full of blackberries from their garden? Cobbler of course. I tried a new one - with pie crust pieces on top instead of biscuit. I tried a small bite and it's not bad, but I think I prefer the biscuit one. And my pie crust top got kind of lost in spots. Oh it's still tasty, to be sure... but this qualifies as "rustic". Just not as funny looking as my Rolling Hills Cake. :D

Whole grain seeded mini loaves - part one

I've felt like a seeded whole grain loaf for some time. This was just a little batch I whipped up today. Only two mini loaves - which is plenty. One will hit the freezer probably.

Chemistry (gotta love that it all starts with yeast flatulence):

My dessert, sliced bread with a pat of butter and a local honey. Insanely good.

Of course! I have a gallon bag of them in my freezer (I got them frozen) from my dad's yard last year. I really need to thaw them soon and make a cobbler. I was trying to think of some reason to get some people over here to help me eat it, but now I think just making cobbler might be reason enough. I'll try to remember to document it when I make it.

Do you serve yours with vanilla ice cream? Warm fruit (pies, cobblers, compote) with vanilla ice cream is one of my favourite things.

I've enjoyed looking through your thread. Those jams are beautiful, and that bread looks perfect.

OMG. That looks awesome.

And blackberries. Yes, they taste great. But the are the scourge of the PNW. At least I hate them in my yard.

Aww thank you. :)

Yes. Vanilla ice cream is the way to go. Warm or room temp cobbler benefits from ice cream. Especially since this wasn't the sweetest of cobblers. But it had such fantastic blackberry flavor. I don't think I'd be inclined to do the pie crust top again. Or at least not in that fashion. There isn't enough substance to hold up to the berries and not enough air to keep them afloat. But it was easy and quick. We survived. :D

I just got some more from the coworker. This time I froze them. I have two 1 quart bags in the freezer waiting for some project down the line. I have a hunch I'll be getting more.

Thank you. :)

The underground runners for blackberry canes are evil. They produce tasty goodness but they are evil in a managed garden.

If one is going to deal with a thorny plant in the PNW, I'd stick with roses. :rose:

(No, not that kind of food porn - pervs. ;) :D )

I like to cook. Well specifically bake. There's something about the precision of baking transformed into the artistry of the finished product that speaks to me.

Being it looks like you guys may be stuck with me a while, I'm going to torture you with my baking/cooking exploits. I do this a couple times a month, just depending.

This week's project was strawberry cream Danish. I made the dough last week and popped it in the freezer. This week it came out to play and was joined by vanilla pastry cream and strawberry filling topped with a simple glaze.

Damn tasty. I was a bit greedy. I had two pieces.

Oh my, that looks very delicious ! You appear to have a talent, and I'll bet you, me and some Kool whip would be a perfect dessert !!

Cool whip? That stuff is evil. No "better living through chemistry" with cool whip.... hahahaha ;)

Cake. A citrus - lemon and orange - cake filled with my homemade jelly.

I'll give inspiration for this cake to Elle. Granted it's not soaked and does not have cardamon, but not everything finishes as it starts. Eh? ;)

They were tasty yeast farts. :D

The cake was just regular chemistry - not biochemistry. So no yeast farts involved.

Oh everytime I see your name I think "yeast flatuence"...

There's worse things to be remembered by.

(Yes I'm laughing as I'm typing that)

My 'mature' Scottish mum was going to throw out a liter of milk that had gone bad, and I used it to make a loaf of soda bread. I shoulda taken pics of the whole process, but unleavened sour milk soda bread is just about as close as I get to baking.

(instead of yeast farts, the bacteria in 'expired milk' gasses off enough to give the bread enough umph)

Inspiring cake is about the best thing I have ever done. It's also the only thing I think I have inspired here ;). Citrus cakes are yum and the jelly looks clear and beautiful.

Well you were the one that put forth the ideas that the cake was born from. So to you goes the credit. :rose:

Thank you! :)

I've been remembered for many things - even many unusual things - but "yeast flatulence" is up there in oddities even for me. :p

Lemon & Mixed Berry Muffins

I wanted muffins for breakfast. My grandmother used to make ones like these, but she made orange ones. I didn't have oranges. I had lemons. I also didn't have fresh cranberries but instead had dried mixed berries that included cranberries, blueberries and cherries. No raisins. Just say no to raisins. :p I rehydrated them and cut them into small pieces.

Standard batter - AP flour, vanilla sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, oil, egg.

Flavors - lemon zest, mixed berries, vanilla extract, lemon extract

Batter in the bowl:

Damn good muffins. I was not disappointed. If I may pat myself on the back. :D

I need to step up my game, placeholder for lamb stuffed grilled zucchini tomorrow.

Is this thread not clear evidence that you're a woman - I know perilously few men who cook like this. (I wish I did - I blame the parenting personally.)

Just don't stretch the thread with your pics please. ;)

In the meantime I'll be waiting. :D

They are small, young, zucchini's. If there was such a thing summer squash veal...they would be it.

AHEM...I'm pretty sure I can cook Adrina under the table, full meal, starting with aperitif's and ending with pie. However she can BAKE me under the table, but I'll put up my ginger snap molasses cookies against her muffins any day.

Oh yeah beotch, I'm throwing it down, lol :D

The best thing to do with zucchini is to make zucchini bread. :p I'll stand behind my zucchini bread any day of the week. Damn good stuff.

I'm not just a baker. I can cook like a demon too. I do not do the bbq grill though. My sis is the one that has the talent over open flame. Not that I couldn't learn, just never had a reason to. However I can turn out anything from a seven course dinner to a cocktail party table full of hor d'oeuvres. I prefer baking though. It is far more satisfying.

However, that said, if you want to do the day to day cooking, who the hell am I to argue. ;)

G bakes :). Not as prettily though! But he is a pretty good baker. I haven't bothered baking bread seriously for years because he is better than me, he makes incredible pizze, and American muffins, and his cakes are getting good and his cookie are good. :).

We love to cook together ❤️

My father was a more than passable cook for everyday stuff and was a very good baker when it came to cookies. His sugar cookies and oatmeal cookies were always awesome. Mom isn't much of a baker but is a damn fine every day cook.

Adrina can just be adrina on her own merit. ( adrina the alt thing is pretty standard when people cannot get a measure of you. I was aella 😡 Or que ( isn't everyone?) but never rob. I don't know why never rob. Anyway, it's just something that happens.

So I gather. :D I did get accused of being Rob also. So far I'm up to five, six? I lost track. I figure they're bored. Perhaps they should head to the kitchen and bake something to occupy themselves, yes? :D

Lemon Jelly. Cuz hey why not, it's not like I don't have enough jam and jelly now. The silly ass thing is I still have one pouch of pectin left. They had raspberries on sale last week and I realized I had no raspberry jam. Well of course I had to address that travesty. Thus another packet of pectin landed in my kitchen. Didn't take any pics of the raspberry. Trust me when I tell you it is delightful. Had a PBJ sandwich with it the other night.
