The son of a blacksmith and a grocery store assistant, Ray grew up far from the bright lights of London. He had lived in tiny village until he was eighteen, when he offered the chance to leave his peasant life behind him. The Countess of Satchford had an opening and he jumped at it, selling himself superbly. He saw it as a fantastic opportunity to increase his place in life.

Of course, once he got to London, he was swiftly shown his place. Every day, he was ordered about by the Countess and her guests. 2 years after arriving, he was seriously considering returning home to join his father in the family business. Then she arrived. Marian. She was a niece of the Countess, from the country like himself. Of course, their circumstances growing up could have not being more different.

The moment they met, they hit it off. She was not like her aunt, not one bit. She was very bit of the country girl she had grown up as. Every night after whatever ball was on, she would come to the servants' quarters to hang out with him. She always looked spectacular in her gowns, but never looked at ease in them. Tonight was no different.

"My dear Marian, when will you ever learn that these 'gentlemen' are looking for one thing and one thing only, a trophy wife that can hang off their arm at functions just like this, and take home so you can take care of their...needs."

When Marian turned 18 her parents sent her to live with her aunt, the Countess of Satchford. They wanted her to find a good husband that would provide for her and take care of her. The Countess, having many friends and entertained daily promised she would take care of her and find her a worthy husband.

Marian had tried to talk her parents into letting her stay home and eventually find a husband. She didn’t like her aunt very well and being the dreamer she was, preferred to meet someone and fall in love. Marian wasn’t too happy at all about being shown around like some piece of meat being offered to the highest bidder and that’s exactly what her aunt did.

The only good thing that had happened since she arrived was she met a young man named Ray. Although he was a servant and mistreated terribly by her aunt, Marian got to know him right away and snuck away from her aunt to talk to him whenever she could. She knew if her aunt found out that she was doing such a thing, she would be severely punished.

Tonight at the ball, her aunt had introduced her to several men, most were more than double her age. The way they looked at her, well it was almost as if they could see her without her clothes on. The first chance she got, she disappeared to the servants quarters to see Ray.

"My dear Marian, when will you ever learn that these 'gentlemen' are looking for one thing and one thing only, a trophy wife that can hang off their arm at functions just like this, and take home so you can take care of their...needs."

“But that sounds so awful, what about my needs? I may have a few, or is that unimportant to them too?” she stated, more than asked as she complained once again about her aunt. “I don’t know how you stand the way she treats you and I bet if my mother wasn’t her sister, she’d be treating me the same way. What will I do if she promises me to someone I can’t stand? Oh Ray, I just don’t know what to do.”

Ray sighed at Marian's naivety.

"Welcome to the world of the upper class in the big city. Do you know many girls like you I have seen come through this place in the last 2 years, and leave on the arm of the gentleman with the biggest house, or wealth prospects?

Though you are different, and I like you. How did you end up in this situation?"

The truth was that Ray had a crush on Marian. He could never reveal it, because it would only kill their friendship. Society would never allow them to be together. She was destined to live in a mansion house, with the stables and acres of land. He was tied to a life of serving others.

He masked his feelings for Marian by striking a casual relationship with one of the servant girls, Allie. She was cute, but nothing like Marian. He pictured Marian's face as he fucked her on an almost nightly basis. He wished he could stop and take Marian away, but right now it was the only resemblance of a relationship he had.

“I ended up here because my mother and father said I was ready for marriage and thought I would find a better husband if I stayed with my aunt.” Marian said, pouting a bit.

“I really don’t know why they won’t just let me fall in love on my own instead of being practically raffled off to the highest bidder. At least that’s what it feels like.” she looked at Ray and smiled. “Right now I’d much rather marry you than any of those men she’s introducing me too.”

Marian thought more about what was going on in her life and actually wished you could just run off with Ray. They were such good friends and could talk about anything, she didn’t have to act like some snobby thing. Which was what she had been taught to do all her life and didn’t like it at all.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just run away from here, Ray. Just be ourselves and not have to worry about serving or being served. Do what ever we wanted to, like regular people. Doesn’t that sound nice?” She asked him, her eyes bright and wide as she waited to hear what he would tell her.

Ray laughed nervously when she obviously joked about the two of them getting married and running away together.

"Oh Marian, if only it were so easy.".

But her words sent him off a dream journey. Her and him. The country. He sighed at how unrealistic it all was.

"You would be grounded until the 'right' man comes along, and I would be fired and forced to return home, ashamed.".

He did not want to go home again until he had made something of himself. But he was no closer to that than he was when he left home 2 years ago.

"Anyway missy, you should be heading to your bed chambers. I know the Countess is bringing you the polo championships in London tomorrow. That's a long trip, so you will need your rest.

I will come visit you tomorrow night when you return".

“Okay Ray, but I’m still going to dream about escaping this place before it is to late and I’m saddled with some old goat.” she pouted, then smiled at him.

“Goodnight my sweet Ray,” she said and gently kissed him on the cheek.

Marian then snuck back to her quarters before her aunt knew she was gone.

“My Lady, where were you, I was so worried the Countess would find out you were gone. We must hurry and get you ready for bed before she does come looking for you,” Julian said, Marian’s own personal attendant.

Julian quickly helped Marian out of her dress and corset, then slipped a chemise over her head.

“Now sit down there by the vanity so I can unpin you’re hair and get it brushed real good for you.” Julian stated, who was only a few years older than Marian herself.

“Marian, there you are,” the Countess said very put out that she had to come looking for her herself. “You shouldn’t have left the ball until you talked to me about it. Now remember what I told you about my rules. You will follow them or I’ll send you home and you can disgrace your family. You will need to be up early tomorrow as we our going to London for the polo championships. I have also accepted an invitation on your behalf from Sir Henry Witherspoon to be your escort tomorrow. He will come for us quite early and I expect you to be extremely nice to him. His is a very influential man with a large estate and would make a very worthy husband for you.”

“Oh Auntie, he has to be 100 years old by the looks of him. I can’t even think of what it would be like to be…to be touched by him.” Marian replied extremely unhappy with the situation.

“Oh my, girl, he’s not that old, he’s in his mid 40’s which is a good age for a girl like you, especially one that definitely needs a bit of discipline in her life. Now get some rest, we leave as soon as the sun comes up.”

After her aunt left, Marian cried on Julian’s shoulder, hoping she would not have to marry this man that was being forced on her.

“Don’t worry My Lady, some how it will all work out for the best, things have a way of doing that, my mama use to say.” It was the only comforting words that Julian could give her, she too would not like to see poor Marian with that man either.

Ray smiled when Marian kissed his cheek. He watched her leave, then sat there for a moment. In the perfect world, he would take them away from their prison lives, away to some quiet country place and live out their lives, together.

He needed closeness, now. He walked over to the female section and found Allie setting up for breakfast the next morning. She smiled as he approached her, recognizing that look in his eye. "5 minutes, wine room", he whispered.

6 minutes later, Allie was on her knees in front of him, undoing his overalls. Taking out his meaty cock, she immediately started sucking on the head. She was good at this, one of the best Ray had had in his young life. She bobbed on him for a few minutes, then he pulled her to her knees, bent her over a beer barrel, and lifted her skirt.

"No underwear, you are too naughty Allie", he said, spanking her ass. He then put the head of this cock against her opening, feeling her wetness. He sank in one fluid motion, moans escaping her pretty mouth.

But Ray's mind was already on Marian. In his head, he was fucking her. He wouldn't last long in this position, especially after Allie's skillful oral action. A few minutes later,

"Fuck Allie, I'm gonna cum!", and a few seconds he shot his load deep inside her.

He lifted her off, seeing the big smile on her face. "Thanks Allie, see you later". He had to leave, Marian's face was burned into his mind more than ever during sex with Allie.

He drifted back to his quarters and climbed into bed, asleep within minutes.

Marian was woken up by Julian letting her know it was time to get ready. The countess wanted them ready before the sun rose. Marian yawned, and then slowly got out of bed.

“Julian, what if I say I’m sick and can’t go,” she asked trying to come up with an excuse not to have to go with her aunt nor that old man that was escorting her.

“You know what will happen, she will send for the doc, and you will have to drink some awful tasting stuff and she’ll make you go anyway. Come on, it won’t be that bad, just do your best to be polite and when you’re watching the polo championships, look at all the cute young guys there. Maybe you’ll turn one of their heads your way. Smile at the, flirt a little if you get a chance.”

“Oh I couldn’t, not having an escort with me, my aunt would never forgive me.” Marian said.

Julian slipped off the chemise and put the corset on her, tying it tightly in the back. Bloomers went on as well and then she decided she would wear her white dress outlined in black. It was to be a nice day and this dress was perfect for outside.

“I’d like to wear my hair down today, just pin it back a little.”

As soon as she was ready she went down to the kitchen where her aunt was having tea. Ray was there following every little order she gave him and she didn’t even get a chance to say Hi to him or anything. Sir Henry Witherspoon had arrived and was waiting to take them to London. Marian greeted Sir Henry with a smile as he helped her into the carriage. As they were leaving, Marian did get a chance to wave to Ray, before they were completely out of distance.

Ray rose at the usual time of 5am. He was in charge of making sure breakfast went out on time. Despite his young age, he was one of the more experienced servants in the house. He twelve boys and
girls under his charge in the morning, and he had them in perfect order. He prided himself on well he could organise his daily chores, something he hope the Countess would notice and promote him.

He managed to briefly see Marian before she took off with her escort for the day. He felt anger as he observed Marian being forced to be his arm trophy for the day. They climbed about the
gentleman's carraige and they were off. He saw Marian wave from inside. He smiled and waved back.

Following this, he would make sure all the entrance halls were spotless clean, ensuring that there were no stains on any of the floors or carpets. Then it would be back to the kitchen to oversee the
lunch service. As the Countess and her guests had left for the day, it was pretty quiet and all over in an hour.

The afternoon would usually find Ray between the laundry room and the stables, preparing hay beds for the horses that had gone on an afternoon trot. Then it would be back inside to be the lead waiter
on the dinner service. Marian would be back in time for this, and he was already looking forward to their post dinner conversation.

Marian had spent the day putting on a fake smile for her aunt and her escort. She was polite, answered questions when asked, but for the most part she was quiet. She couldn’t even really enjoy the polo championships, not with him on her arm or her on his. All she could think about was getting back to her Aunts and talking with Ray.

As they approached the Countess’s home, Marian was surprised once again by her aunt who invited Sir Henry Witherspoon to join them for dinner, which of course he did accept the invitation.

She managed to see Ray as he was managing the servants who were serving all the guests drinks. Others were laying out a huge feast specially ordered by the Countess to impress Sir Henry. Before the meal was even finished, Marian excused herself, saying that she wasn’t feeling well, just a headache and was going to go to bed early. She thanked Sir Henry for the day, allowed him to kiss her hand and then couldn’t get to her room fast enough, where she did actually get sick in the bowl on top of vanity. Julian quickly helped her to lay down and then cleaned up her mess.

“My Lady, are you really that sick, maybe we should send for a doctor, I better go tell the Countess….”

“Don’t you be telling her anything, my only problem was having to spend the day on that mans arm and besides that he stunk, it was awful. Worse yet, is my aunt is really pushing for this man to be my husband. I’ll kill myself before I let that happen.” Marian said, and her tone said she meant every word.

“Now don’t go talking like that, we’ll think of something. Maybe I’ll find out some more about him. Maybe there is something he really despises in a woman and then you could trick him into thinking you like what he hates. I don’t know it’s just and idea.” Julian said as she finished cleaning up and put clean cold water in the water basin along with in the pitcher next to it. “Now go wash your face and clean those teeth, before you get to stinking.”

This made Marian finally laugh and she did as she was told. It was nice to have Julian around and she really didn’t consider her a servant. She thought of her mostly as a helping hand, a friendly face and someone that understood her much better than her aunt.

Marian lay back in the bed to rest until she heard Sir Henry’s carriage pull away. Then she asked for Julian to check and see if the Countess had retired to her quarters. Julian came back shortly letting her know her aunt did in fact go to her quarters and asked not to be bothered unless she rang or them.

“Oh good, that gives me plenty of time then. Keep and eye out and remember the signal if you think she is going to come my room.”

Marian swiftly headed for the servants quarters to find Ray. When she saw him, she ran up and hugged him.

“Ray, I have to do something, my aunt is really pushing this Sir Henry Witherspoon to marry me. Oh he’s just awful, do you know him or anything about him?” she asked.

She didn’t give much of a chance to answer as she went on about their day and him trying to hang all over her, how he stunk and just what an unpleasant day it was, including getting sick after dinner.

As the dinner service was about to begin, Marian entered on the arm of the night’s distinguished guest. Anger started to boil inside Ray, but he kept it together to give her a quick, but warm smile. The dinner service went smoothly until Marian excused herself, giving sickness as her reason. Ray wondered if she really was sick.

2 hours later, Sir Witherspoon had left in his carriage and the Countess had retired for the night. Ray was off duty for the night. Soon after, Marian arrived in the servant quarters in an absolute state. He hugged her, but she gave him no chance to interject.

When she was finished, he said,
“At this moment, the only think I know about Sir Witherspoon is that he is incredibly wealthy and a genius on the stock markets. It’s how he has become so wealthy so fast. I can tell tonight that he is not used to such high living. He’s not comfortable among his wealthy peers. No wonder he is such a bumbling fool around you.”

“I won’t marry him, I don’t care what they say, he’s awful and he stinks,” Marian kept on about Sir Witherspoon as Ray hugged her.

“I should just go find someone and elope and then what could they do,” she said, although knew very well how that would bring disgrace to her family.

Why couldn’t they just give her time to meet someone and fall in love. Why did they have to insist upon a certain man with money and well established. She hated that part of coming from where she did.

With Ray’s arms around her, she hugged him tightly, “I wish so much we could both leave and get out of this situation. But I know what would happen.” She then looked up into Ray’s eyes and noticed for the first time a look of wanting, or maybe desire. She wasn’t sure, but she thought how much better off she would be if she could stay with him. At least then she would be happy.

Then without realizing it, she brought her face closer to his and kissed him sweetly on the lips. “You’re the only one who keeps me sane here, if it weren’t for you, I think I would go absolutely crazy.”

Then she kissed him again, this time allowing her kiss to linger.

Ray's insides melted when Marian kissed him. He lost himself in the moment, however brief it was. But the hold was broken when he felt her linger on the second kiss. He put his hand on his shoulder,

"Marian......we can't. I just can't.....I cherish our friendship too much. This would never work. I would be fired, and your family would disown you. We just can't."

“Oh, I know that Ray and I wouldn’t do anything to hurt our friendship either. I wouldn’t want to see you fired, I don’t care if my family disowns me. Right now, if I have to marry that awful man, I’d rather be disowned.”

I sit with Ray and we chat, both of us trying to figure out what my options are.

“No matter what we come up with, it will just bring the same result, I’ll be disowned, or married off to the man anyway and then probably punished if I had tried to run off. There doesn’t seem to be any way around it. That is unless I can come up with something that I know he dislikes in a woman. Something to turn him completely away, and my aunt not even know I did it purposely.”

We both contemplate this and I tell you that I suggested it to Julian, my personal servant, although more of a friend to me.

“She is going to try and find out some things about him. Maybe you could also listen or find out things that men don’t like, so that I could do and keep from marrying the wrong man. Do you think you could do that for me, Ray?”

Ray listened and talked with Marian about her pending 'husband' situation. When asked to keep an ear out for information, he readily agreed.

"Ok my dear, tomorrow is my day off and I intend to head into the city so I need to scamper back to your bed chambers so that I can get some rest".

He kissed Marian on the cheek, but really wanting to her kiss her properly again. He bid her goodnight and watched her leave. As soon as she disappeared out the door, he changed into his nightclothes and turned in for the night.

5am, the following morning. Ray was on his way to the local horse and carraige stop. It was the best way for the working class to travel to the city. He was heading to the city to seek out a place that he had heard Sir Witherspoon talking about
the previous night. It was the corn market.

Growing up as a kid, Ray had helped out on the small farm that his parents operated. They would sell their produce at the local market. He loved to watch his father haggle with the customers. He picked up some useful skills back then that he
hoped would help him today. His only problem would be getting in. Only registered traders were allowed access to the trading floor. Luckily he knew just the guy who could forge him a trader's pass.

An hour later, he was standing on the trading floor, his eyes wide open, taking in his surroundings. He had his entire life savings with him and he was willing to risk it all to achieve the master plan he had hatched the night before.

The next day Marian spent the day in her room, she even had Julian bring her meals to her room. She told her aunt that she was just tired from the long day yesterday and just wanted to get some rest.

“But I have already invited Sir Witherspoon over for tea later this afternoon, can you at least come down for that.”

“No, you invited him, you have tea with him. I don’t like him and I’m not going to marry him…”

“Why you ungrateful child, just wait until I talk to my sister about your behavior. We’ll see what happens then.”

“I hope she tells me to come home, away from you and these awful men you keep picking for me. The I can tell her how you really treated me while I was your you…you…”

“Stay in your room, I won’t have such disrespect in my own home. We will see what happens. You may find yourself married sooner than you think!”

With that she slammed the door and did not bother Marian the rest of the day. Although poor Julian had to sneak in some food for dinner as the Countess had told her she was to miss dinner tonight and maybe even breakfast in the morning.

An hour into the trading, Ray was attracting quite the crowd. He was winning, big. He had trebled his money in that time. In two hours, he was easily the best performing trader on the floor. Ray was shocking himself with how well he was doing.

By the end of the morning trading, Ray was holding more money than he knew what to do. The first thing he wanted to do was to buy a nice suit. He bought a black waistcoat, inside a grey suit, topped off with a red tie. A crisp white shirt completed the ensemble.

Back at the trading floor, he overheard of a dinner happening that night. He stopped where he heard where it was: the Countess' mansion. He didn't know because he was off-duty.

This was perfect. His plan had moved forward, but it was perfect.

Marian paced her floor, still trying to figure a way out instead of having to marry Sir Henry Witherspoon. She didn’t understand her parents or her aunt at why they would push her into a loveless marriage with a man twice her age.

The sun was just starting to set when the Countess came in her room unannounced as usual.

“There has been a change in plans, I am expecting guests for dinner, not just Sir Witherspoon and I would appreciate you come down. You just have to make an appearance, I won’t make you stay long, but please dress proper for the evening. You may even have some fun as it is an open invitation, maybe you may find someone else, if you are so dead set against Sir Witherspoon. But behave yourself, and I just might forgive your disrespect this afternoon.”

With that the Countess left and Marian looked over at Julian. “I wonder what other men she is talking about, she’s had most of them here already, at least the older men anyway.”

“Well let’s get you dressed up real pretty, just in case. It sounds like you might be getting to the Countess and she won’t throw Witherspoon in your bed, that is if you behave.”

“You mean as long as I do whatever she says,” Marian pouted. “Okay, what do you think I should wear?”

Marian waited awhile as the guests arrived before coming down the stairs to greet them.

Before Ray could appear at the mansion, he had to disguise who he was, in case he got caught. He planned to quit from the Countess' services, but that could wait until morning.

He headed to the barbers, asking for a complete restyle. When the good man was finished, he almost didn't recognize himself. 'Perfect', he thought.

Ray rented the most expensive carriage in the city, and set off for the mansion. Once arriving, he entered the hall where he had served the rich and elite on many occasions. He scanned the room, recognising the famous faces. But he did not see the one person he wanted to see.

Marian.

Julian came in her room, telling her it was time, the Countess was looking for her, so with that, she made her entrance, putting on her best smile. As she came down the stairs, she looked around recognizing some of the people there, but not all, which was nothing new. She walked up to the Countess who introduced her to several couples and another elderly gentleman.

“It’s nice to meet you all, thank you for coming,” she said politely as her aunt had taught her too.

“Would you like some of the punch, Miss Marian, I’d be happy to get it for you,” Derek, the elderly gentleman asked.

“That would be nice, thank you,” she said and walked with him to where the punch bowl was. At least this man wasn’t ugly or stinky, but quite a bit older than her.

She took the punch he offered, taking a very large sip, then coughing, not having realized it had liquor in it. She spent several more minutes talking with him and then started to mingle a bit as her aunt had suggested. Although her aunt did not want her going to far, just in case she wanted to introduce her to any more gentleman.

He saw her as soon as she entered.

She looked breathtaking. The elegant red dress hugged all her womanly curves, her hair shimmering in the hall light. He made his way around the crowd, trying to get closer to her. She always seemed to be surrounded by a group of men. He patiently waited for them to disperse, helping himself to a drink.

The big question was, would she recognise him?

Suddenly she was briefly free. He made his move.

"Good evening Miss", smiling broadly.

“Good evening,” she said, then did a double take looking at him, “I don’t think we’ve met as I haven’t seen you around here before.”

There seemed to be something familiar about him, but she couldn’t put her finger on it. Was it his looks, maybe she had seen somewhere else, or the voice. Oh but her aunt had introduced her to so many men, although none this handsome or closer to her own age. He was stunning and seemed like the perfect gentleman.

“May I ask, what is your name?” she smiled at him, flashing her sparkling eyes.

"My name is Raymond Bernard."

Marian only knew him as Ray.

"You must be Miss Marian. Your aunt was raving about you earlier. Although she did not do justice to your beauty. I hear you are a country girl. I yearn to go back myself."

He took a sip of his drink, studying her face, waiting for her to recognise him.

The man in him let his eyes linger briefly on her full breasts, only partly concealed by her magnificent dress. The blood started to flow to his manhood before he scolded himself.

“Why thank you Mr. Bernard, or may I call you Raymond? You do know how to flatter a girl.” she said with a soft smile, her eyes sparkling. “Yes, I am a country girl and do love it. I am anxious to return soon or rather hoping to soon.”

Now this man was one worth knowing. He was polite, respectable, great looking and young. Just then she noticed Sir Witherspoon heading in her direction.

“Mr. Bernard, can I interest you in taking a look at the patio garden? It was designed to make me feel a little bit of home, with all the flowers.” she said, taking hold of his elbow, hoping he would like to see it before that ugly man came over and disgusted them.

"Please call me Raymond, and certainly, a garden walk sounds lovely."

Ray too had noticed Sir Witherspoon heading in their direction, but he was very discreet about it. Taking Marian by the arm, he guided them out the double doored entranced to the hall and into the cool evening air.

Ray did love the gardens at the mansion. It reminded him of home, the array of colours and smells eminating from the different specises.

"So Miss Marian", stopping a beautiful bed of flowers, "Which one of these would be your favourite?"
