Devyn fluffed her hair up in the mirror one more time before walking into the living room of her apartment and picking up her suitcase. Her roommate, Sierra, was crying by the front door and Devyn rolled her eyes good-naturedly. Walking over, she wrapped her toned arms around the tiny girls shoulders and hugged her close.
"I'm only gonna be gone for a few months" Devyn assured Sierra as the girl sniffled and hiccuped.
"But.. you're going half...way around the world" Sierra replied.
Devyn giggled softly and hugged her roommate/best friend again. It was true. That morning she was leaving for the incredibly long journey from Washington D.C. to Australia. She was going away for the semester to study, and to gain new cultural experiences, and she couldn't be more excited.
With a few more words Devyn grabbed her luggage and headed down to flag a cab for the airport.
**** 24 Hours Later ****
It had been an incredibly long flight and Devyn was exhausted when the plane finally landed and she was on her way to Melbourne University. Her nerves were a jumbled up mess inside of her stomach and she was scared to death... but she had never been so excited. She caught her reflection in the window and winced. She looked a wreck. Her long black hair was limo, her jeans and tanktop were wrinkled from traveling, and her green eyes had dark circles beneath them.
Sighing, she laid back and watched the scenery fly by the cab window.
