Bikini Atoll
Bloody BIG Bangs.
Bikini was devastated in '56 & '58, loada compensation paid to the islanders, the descendants of whom have no desire to go live on an atoll.
It was the biggest nuclear bang and it was a great deal more efficient than had been thought, putting radioactivity in/over Europe and Australia (not that they told us about it at the time, but I recall Strontium 90 was widely talked about). A better reason to put them underground (very, very deep) had not been dreamed up to that time.

Ah - I'd forgotten about that snag. . . .
Same woman who famously stood by her man (later covered by the Dixie Chicks... Ironically on the "Goodbye Earl" CD single).
the year 1955 saw a revolution in the UK. Advertising on the TV, by courtesy of
Independent TeleVision. THIS is the first advert seen.
It's for toothpaste (groan).
"Mijacogeo (The Frodis Caper)", written & directed by still-touring Monkee Micky Dolenz. Last episode to air in the 60s, ends with performance of "Song To The Siren" by Tim Buckley.
YouTube says, "The Monkees match wits with the insane Wizard Glick (Rip Taylor), who is out to control the minds of television viewers worldwide."
