Genius Ideas For Free

A queer coffee maker?? WTF??

Oh, wait.
My mistake.
Nevermind.

I put forward a cordless TIG welding foot control. Those damn cords are always in the way and then the plugs get flakey.

You could probably have any competent electrical engineer rig you up something like that. GOod idea. A while ago I had an idea for a comprehensive welding headmask with built in respirator-not forced air. Then I saw a guy who had taken a full-face gas-mask type respirator, cut the optics out of an automatic-darkening shield and duct-taped them to the face-plate of the respirator, and then spray-painted the rest of the faceplate silver.

I couldn't care less about TV shows, but I understand your basic point. I have the same desires of a univeral digital library with all books availible. They'd have something like a big copying machine that would print out a nice paperback version of any book.
You can get a number of i-books. I agree that books should be in hardcopy. I find I don't enjoy reading books on the computer. There is just something inherently wonderful about opening a book and smelling that paper smell.

There is a clip on lens holder for the MSA's that contains the light well and snaps up for deslagging and grinding (or possibly admiration). Bad part is it puts all the weight forward and straps loosen.

Breathing metal fumes are not really all the bad for you. Get the fuck back up there and crank so beads out!

Yes, I can't stand reading books on computer, but it ought to be easy to make a small, high-tech printing press that print up a single copy of any book. All books ought to be in digital form, printable on demand one at a time. I think this would lower the cost of books greatly.

Yeah, this guy had had molybenum poisoning. I've been looking for a repirator/headmask and never seen one. Such an obvious combination. I was just welding galvo last week and holding my breath before striking the arc each time because I couldn't fit my repirator under the shield. Ridiculous.

Don't breathe that shit. And quit scabbing on the tinners.

I know you wouldn't. Tinner's welding requires certs! :)

Hah. This day I mailed off a check that paid off my trade school loan. Now I am free of all liens, debts, mortagages and encumbrances and I still don't have the @#$% certs. That must be why welding is in the air.

The problem with wireless anything around welding is the RF noise that is generated. It would have to be a secure, error-tolerant data link to have a prayer of working. You wouldn't want infrared, either, because that requires line of sight to work.

Well it seems like it ought to be workable. I mean it's just a case of "more and less", no fancy data being transmitted. But what do I know.

It's not a fancy signal, just an analog that represents the percent depression of the foot pedal, right? Still, dropouts due to RFI and EMI from the welding itself could make the TIG unstable. It's an interesting problem, though.

The TIG has a reputation for frying stuff with the high freq used to intitiate the arc (and sustain in on AC). I am not sure how the welding process is affected in reverse.

We have hot wired switches for years. Radio Shack loves us!

*edit/legal disclaimer: SaintPeter has no idea why the TVs for blocks around are toast when the bright lights show under his garage door.*

And one more thing. If the wireless TIG pedal thing gets the bugs worked out and hits the market IT IS STILL MY IDEA. Even if I posted it in Rosco's free thread.

He is all about the charity. I am not.

*go away neighbors...I owe you nothing*

If the signal that is controlling the welding current fluctuates because of RFI from the weld process itself, the weld current will also fluctuate, possibly creating an unhealthy positive feedback situation. The transmitter/receiver pair for the foot pedal would have to filter out unrecognizable data (not a huge problem) to generate a weld current setpoint signal that is reliable enough to use.

What sucks is when all the hot chicks crowding around to get a look at my Bead get their high heels tangled in the pedal cable. I have gotten around this issue before with caution tape and security personel, etc.

This year I replaced a machine the size of a refrigerator with a machine the size of a lunchbox loaded with every bell and doo dad offered. Wireless everything cannot be far off.

I was welding joist hangers for the carpenters. I would never.

Why do they have to make an "adapter". They need to design an integral unit. It's ridiculous.

I needed the respirator for the whole job, not just the welding. The mask was the first thing on and last off. The snap on welding attachment worked fine but was not really designed to weld in day in and out.

I know some fittters that wear half masks under a traditional welding hood. The tweeky forced air hoods are nice.

In the shop I prefer down draft tables or snorkles.

I love mine!

discoteques for the obese I'm not sure why this idea appeals so much, or even if there is a strict difference between it and various clubs, nights, societies and gatherings dedicated to the same purpose. However, I trust my intuition. Discoteques for the obese is a genius idea. There's something very sexy about the obese dressed to kill, free of all shame, shaking their booty down on the dance floor. I can't quite put it into words at this point, but that doesn't matter.

There are two problems with this idea. The first is social and it is enormous. What most obese people (at least the ones I've known) want to do is hide from the world and the cruelty and mockery and disgust their supposedly "normal" peers subject them to, not expose themselves to more virrulent forms of that hatred. The social stigma and prejudice against the obese is enormous, which is pretty ironic and tragic in a food-focused culture like ours, where the percentage of large people is growing so rapidly. If absolutely no individuals below a certain weight were allowed in such a place and if no photography or videotaping was permitted, that might lower some large people's fear of ridicule and hatred enough to try it. Although the malicious "post it on the 'Net" photographers and fatty chasers who would hang outside such a place would be enough to keep most far away from such a place. So you, who have often talked about being thin or at least a normal weight, would never get to see such an amazing spectacle unless you could figure out a way to "pass" as a big person. I'm sure the bouncers would know how to detect most "fat suits," so it wouldn't be easy!

But you might also need a physical adaptation for such a place to be genuinely popular: some way to lessen gravity and thus make dancing fun rather than the arduous, painful, or physically dangerous activity that it currently is if a person is very overweight and not an athlete--which is most obese people. If the disco were in orbit and some way was found to provide a mild gravity it might be very popular (assuming the social stigma, mentioned above, could be overcome). Or perhaps you could put it underwater. If underwater discos ever caught on, I could see markets for special clothing lines (clothes designed to look good in water), makeup, and non-obvious or ornamental breathing devices booming. Maybe the easiest way to make dancing fun for the obese would be some sort of suspension device: a harness that let their feet touch ground but that took the brunt of their weight off the joints?

Ass Hats No, I am not talking about your neighbor with the loud stereo. Ass Hats are hats for the ladies that have a picture of their ass on their hat. This would provide a chance to look at the tits and ass at the same time, and save the quick 'look back' which is often being covered up by another ass-viewer. And it fucked up my neck a few times when there was urgency to see a particularly shapely ass and I snapped it off my shoulders.

Haha. That's fucking genius, pete. I picture them as looking like tall uncle sam hats with little prosceniums in front.

The whole point is that no one under the cutoff point for "medically obese" is allowed in.

Fat suits haha.

The only adaptation I thought of was reinforced dance floors with structural steel underpinnings, otherwise you might see something like that videotaped tragedy in Izrael where everyone was doing one of those happy Mediterranean wedding dances where you twirl about like a clown with your hands held over your head--and all of a sudden the entire floor collapses and the whole crowd takes the express elevator to the sub basement.

I do have something of a mental image of the fat, dancing the night away. It's a cam shot looking down on a dance floor with those revolving light speckles, and fat girls in pretty 1970s flouncy disco dresses are twirling twirling twirling with heads thrown back and happy smiles.

OK, I've got one.

It's a website called We're All Whores aka wereallwhores.com

It follows the tried and true, Hot or Not principle, with a twist. You post a few pictures of yourself to be a member, then you browse the pictures of others and set a price for how much you would pay or have to be paid to sleep with that person. The premise is that we all have some price at which sexual discrimination loses importance, so selecting a million dollars for an extremely unattractive person is acceptable.

Obviously, if you would have sex with that person for free, simply select $0. Alternately, if you would pay to have sex with that person, simply state how high you would go.

Additional features would include the ability to see what other users have priced you at, and send them messages if you like. The website would not directly assist or condone any actual transactions being made, but would make no special attempts to stop them either.

Your profile could display your average price, and how much revenue in total you could expect to make if you entered into a life of flesh peddling.

i think i may have posted something about this previously, but it deserves a second airing:

elective allergies

janet has a weakness for pizza and fries, and because of this she can't seem to lose that 30 lbs. so, she elects to undergo a procedure that will make her allergic to pizza and fries. the pharmacological engineering is so sophisticated that she'll still be able to eat tomatoes, potatoes, and dough. but when certain of these ingredients are combined--as in, 'pizza'--she experiences a mild to severe allergic reaction.

now this is the best part--the anti-anti-histamine allergic reaction is emotionally rather than physically painful. this is because it will cause her to break out in ghastly purple splotches all over her trunk, arms, and face. the rash will be distinctive enough that friends, family, and strangers will be able to recognize it: uh-oh, janet/that woman ate something she shouldn't have!! within 24 hrs, the rash will subside, and janet will have learned a valuable lesson--"don't fucking eat that crap; but if you really can't resist it, make sure, whilst you stuff your gob with sugary transfats, you're in a dark hideaway where no one will be able to find you."
