Genre discussion threads?

I won't disagree.

However as many here have expressed in the past, there is a continuing debate over what constitutes erotica.

Hence, my question for @SmilingLez, about what she feels constitutes non-erotic as it relates to her comment. As I pointed out, this is relevant when you consider the number of stories on this site that contain no sexual content yet are successfully published in categories where erotic content is typically implied by the name or description, and they do well with readers.

Should there be some threshold of sexual content for a story to be considered erotic versus non-erotic? How would the two be defined?
But this is a thread for genres, not Lit's categories and how they're populated. There are plenty of those, and they usually become about the publication process. This is about fiction and literary genres, and about writing (and reading) them.

From earlier posts in this thread:
I don't mean the Lit categories, but fiction genres or themes.

Again, I think it would be useful (or at least interesting) to discuss literary/fiction genres separately from Lit's categories. Some genres cross categories, some categories cover a dozen genres. But, for me at least, my thoughts on writing are guided by books that I've read, not the stories that are published on Lit.

To answer your question, I don't see the connection between anal (for example) and non-erotic, however they are both lumped together in the same category drop-down menu. But considering Literotica is a for-profit commercial porn site, it makes sense - why spend the extra effort (and/or money) separating sexually/fetish/kink explicit stories from non sexually/fetish/kink explicit stories on a site that is drenched in porn.

YMMV

Out of respect for the topic of this thread, I will drop this discussion.
