Sitting at the edge of her bed her green eyes scanned over the information in the folder. The past of her new partner covering the pages, a photo of him attached as well.

He wasn't exactly what she would have picked if she had been given the opportunity to have the perfect partner but maybe he would be alright. It wasn't like she was going to fall for his charms as his past partners had done. That was where his problems started. It wasn't that he was a bad spy, he was actually one of the best, but his constant hook ups with his female partners was distracting him.

She was supposed to turn him around, get him focused back on his work. Hopefully make him like her. Someone who never lost a mission, never got distracted, and who never gave up. She was good at what she did and although it cost her any chance at love or a family or any type of normal life she was okay with that. She was doing what needed to be done. Keeping the bad guys under control. Keeping her country safe.

Laying down the file the slim, 5'9'', long haired brunette stood up and walked over to her dresser. Removing her nightgown she dressed in a black tank top, dark jeans, boots and a simple black jacket. Taking a deep breath she glanced at herself "You're Sarah Tyler." She said as she did every morning before heading out the door.

"Two creamers, three sugars" he said, a charming smile crossing his lips, one that came to him almost instinctively, even unbidden, when he talked to a beautiful young girl behind the counter. Back in Sacramento, he wouldn't have needed to give any instructions on how he liked his coffee at the coffee shop on his way to work. But this was a new city, a new office. The agency had hoped that a change of scenery would help him get back on track, back to the way things used to be.

The way things used to be...as he waited for his coffee, his thoughts drifted back to those times, when he used to work alone. It was the way he preferred it, it was how he did his best work. He didn't understand the reasons for the agencies new policy where men and women were partnered up, a move suggested by the psychology department that they felt would "balance" teams that were working abroad. Ever since that change, his work declined. Sexual trysts and short lived love affairs marred his exemplary record now. He also didn't understand why the agency thought moving him to a new office across the country would help. He would still be partnered with a new woman, in fact, he was on his way to meet her now. Maybe if he was lucky, she will have been hideously deformed in a fire. Her file was in his car, but he hadn't opened it, afraid of what he might find. If she was like the others, he would know ALL about her in a short time.

"Adam" the girl behind the counter announced, pulling him out of his thoughts. She held his coffee and a small brown bag containing his bagel.

"Thank you" he smiled at her again, and she flashed a shy smile back.

It was the normal reaction he got from his flirtatious smile. His good looks certainly didn't help his problems. He walked to his car and upon sitting inside, he adjusted the mirror to give himself a quick look over. He wasn't as young as he was when his career was in full swing, he wondered if the stress of his work was what caused the lines of age that had started on his face. They normally bring with them some grey hair as well, but he was fortunate enough to have eluded them so far. His hair was chestnut brown and short, styled in the "purposefully unkempt" look that was popular. He wore his dark jacket over top of his dress shirt underneath. A tie would hold the ensemble together for most men, but he didn't wear one, the top buttons of his shirt undone to complete his "urban rugged" look.

Re-adjusting the mirror, he started the car and began the short drive to his new office, following directions on his phone. Once there, he ate his bagel casually, finished his coffee, and finally popped in a mint. He reached over and grabbed the folder containing his new partner's information and stepped out of the car, walking with a confident gait into the tall building. Through the scanners, and the usual pat-down, ID scanned and re-scanned, retinal verification, and finally onto the elevator 20th floor, third door on the right. He found it open and walked inside. A shorter balding man stood up from his desk immediately to greet him.

"Mr. Harrington" he said, extending his hand. "We're so glad to have you here."

Adam reached out and shook his hand firmly.

"I'm Larry, Larry Hills, I take care of all the paperwork here" the balding man said. "There are just some things for you to fill out while we wait for Miss Tyler"

Larry pushed another folder across his desk toward Adam.

"No problem" Adam responded. "This Miss Tyler, do you know her?" he asked as he opened the folder and began browsing through the papers inside.

"Of course, she's our best agent.....you do have her information right?" Larry replied.

"Um yes, I just haven't looked it over thoroughly" Adam said.

He had hardly finished getting it out when she walked through the door. Well, so much for the hideous burn victim......

Sarah walked in barely even looking at her new partner. "When he's finished with his paperwork please send him into the office Mr. Hills." She said looking at Larry. "I would like to get started as soon as possible."

She quickly walked off, heading down the hall and into a small windowless room. It was set up as a typical office with a couple of bookshelves against one wall a desk with a computer on another wall. The entire floor was set up that way to keep any suspicions at bay. If anyone looked into things all they would find was Samson Industry. They weren't a real company just a cover for the spy corporation but it had worked for them so far.

Sitting down in the chair at the desk Sarah noticed their wasn't a file sitting there as usual. She didn't have a case.... What did they expect her to do? Actually spend time with the new guy and get to know him. Maybe they would give him the file...
