GROUND RULES: An RPG Primer

ok, what do you need my opinion on? And btw Havoc, I love your rules dear. ::::smile:::: Although I am quite curious about what PAMFAM means. ::::thinking someone just needs to name my true hair color.::::: I would like to thank those on "When the Gods Meddle" for allowing me to be a part of the storyline. It means so mush. Thank you all

Hey, Sith, thanks for writing that, it's just right after that you made the god sound like he was dead.

Maybe the misunderstanding came when Roland telepathicaly told Sith "use it on the god".

But next post, they never used the spell!!!!

Like I said thanks, it was a little confusing for a while, and please help my new thread.

I was looking around, and I thought I'd bring this, the oldest, stil postable thread to the front. No special reason. I'm jsut boored

What am I saying. The gods of luck have smiled on me. This is a very usefull thread, if you only look at the first post

That goes to all the newbies. and anyone what doesn't know havocman

You forgot the kitchen sink....

Havoc,

Nice guidelines, but you forgot the first and last rule of all roleplaying ;-)

The GM is always right....lol

MP

GM? I know of a DM, but no GM.

Also, there is no DM (if that's what your thinking) here. Havoc's rules were sole purposefull to aid in the storytelling enviroment of here.

But than again, what do I know. I'm just a flunky!

I was kidding, Cyro ;-)

And, unless my Cyberpunk days are outdated (which I'm sure they are) GM was the term used for a DM for any game outside of AD&D.

I will try to...giggle less in the future ;)

This is for Newbies, but I think it's an important refresher course for everyone else as well. I would greatly appreciate it if you simply glanced over some of these things. Who doesn't like the ole... I'm god now so I get to tell you what to do now, speech.
Anyway, enjoy.

My buddy and peer, once an equal, now my god. Where did the time go!

........Hey, why are you looking at me? the instructions are on the last page <-----

heh.. it's been a long time since i've been here...

can't see the icon, and i use a funny code.

Hmm...

I believe most of you are aware of my humble creds... I have a few alternate suggestions, specific to this forum.

Most people posting here are not hard-core 'roleplayers' playing a game. Realistically, if there were a standard method of denoting actions vs speech vs thought, etc., many people would neither understand nor follow it. This particular forum is more like a story being written by several authors than any sort of game.

In order to avoid confusing people, I suggest that we write as though we were in fact writing for such a novel. Let actions be described in plain text, speech be enclosed in quotes, and thoughts be pointed out as such. For example:

Neale paused a while in uffish thought, and scratched his sable beard. "What do you mean, 'I can't run a game without paying homage to the Pantheon?'!" Thoughts of rebellion swirled within his brain. "Nope. Not gonna do the gotcha thing. Wouldn't be prudent," he thought, grimly.

In threads where telepathy is prevalent, I try to offset that with italics, but I also explicitly point out that the telepath is sending a message.

All my suggestions are intended to make the forum more inclusive to everyone, as we were all newbies at one point.

As for the proper usage of English... well, it would be nice, but we can hardly exclude people on the basis of their verbal SATs. Some very imaginative, creative people here have lousy grammar skills. Oh well. So long as they are trying their best, I'd rather have them having fun than worrying about being graded.

Thus endeth the lesson.

Oh, and creativity goes a long way. But that speeks for itself.

A challenge I have in this thread still stands. Think of the kind of characters you work with, the kind you work the best with.

Now, think of the opposite of them. Imagine the character you would have the most difficulty maintaining and use it.

Another challenge is to use someone ordinary, or someone weak, and progressing from there.

When I first used my ice man Ether, he was 17, new at adventuring. A bard, with no combat or adventuring experiance, no strength, no agility, no good speeds, lowsy stamina, Just a lowly bard given too-heavy armor and a sword and thrown to the wolves. But I turned him into my best character. try and do the same.

Just want to bring this up, mention the rules and regulations. You know, for the sake of the oldies and the newbies.

Bump

Bump - great rules should be read by everyone
