She woke up to the sound of music. Maggie sat up, the song playing was "It's the end of the world as we know of it." She let it play, she lived alone, so it wasn't like she was going to annoy a room mate. She headed to the bathroom, stripped off her pajamas, and started the shower. Maggie stepped under the water and cursed, the hot water was out again and she was blasted by chilly droplets.
Her nipples responded to the frigid deluge, and she washed her short red hair as quickly as possible. She finished showering as quickly as possible. She got out and stubbed her toe.
"FUCK," she yelped, hopping on one foot briefly before snagging a towel. It was a cold rainy Monday and she quickly slipped into her typical work garb, gray slacks, t-shirt, and a sweater. Maggie pulled on her favorite pair of boots and headed out, her thick hair still damp.
The rain went from drizzle to downpour and by the time she got to work she was drenched. She looked like a drowned rat with red hair. Then she had the toughest morning of her life, she was about to head out to her favorite restaurant when her cell phone rang.
"Hello sweetheart," caller ID told her it was her long time boyfriend, he'd been away this weekend and she missed him something fierce.
By the time the call was over, the color had drained from her face as the cell phone fell from her hand, cracking into several pieces as it hit the concrete.
He'd just dropped the bomb, he had spent the weekend with someone else, and now that he was engaged he felt it wasn't right to be leading her on.
The other woman, ugh, technically she was the other woman. The sweet red head who was a fire cracker in bed, but wasn't good enough for his snobby family. Maggie felt like crap as she tromped in the rain to the restaurant. She thought about his family the whole way, she'd met his brother, and his father who had never remarried after divorcing Kevin's mother.
Kevin's mother, she had never met, she was one of those socially active snobby rich women, who gave money to charity but didn't want to know about the people who received it. She briefly thought of how funny it would be to show up at the wedding with his father. He was a older probably better version of Kevin.
Not that she was the slutty vengeance type, but she knew he'd been quite loud mouthed about their sex life to his co workers and more than one had let it be known they'd be happy to keep her happy when things fell apart.
The restaurant was crowded, but with her schedule she didn't have time to wait and so ended up at the bar. Unfortunately she couldn't get her favorite seafood dish at the bar, and ended up ordered jalapeno poppers and a non alcoholic drink. If she'd been looking, she would have noticed hot attentive and attractive the bartender was, but she felt horrible and didn't look much better.
Maggie went back to work against her better judgement and after the most emotional day in her life, was glad the day was over. It seemed like the whole world exploded over the weekend, Mondays were usually complicated, but this had been horrendous.
Walking home in the rain, well it didn't improve things. Maggie had finally shed the bedraggled feeling and was raging by the time she stormed into the cell phone store. It was luckily empty as she slammed the door hard and glared at the guy behind the counter.
His voice helped calm her down, and she explained how her phone had gotten destroyed, and no she didn't have the pieces. Luckily she was due for an upgrade, and after an hour of computer work, she finally had a new phone.
She was starving, and feeling bad about treating the service rep badly. Maggie's boots were not the kind you wore in a marathon and she'd been standing for over an hour, so dining out wasn't really an option. She headed home, stripped off her boots and her rain dampened clothing.
She lived on third floor and it would take an adventurous person to be peeping on her, as the high rise across the street was luxurious and her curtains were for most part adequate. The weather had warmed slightly, so she wasn't chilled while standing in front of the fridge in her panties and bra.
Finally she opted to get something delivered. She called her favorite Chinese place, her usual delivery guy was a cute college kid. Maggie figured she had enough time for a hot shower, then realized there was no hot water. She found her favorite robe, black silk, and slipped it on, while it covered her from her neck to her knees it also clung to the lush curves of her breasts and hips.
She flipped through the TV offerings and felt relief when the doorbell finally rang.
"I'm coming," she shouted as she picked up her check and headed to the door. She smiled, took the food and handed him the check.
She ate in front of the TV watching of all things, Groundhog day, and glancing at the calender she realized she hadn't noticed it was indeed Groundhog day.
"I'm so fucking glad this day is over."
She found it funny when he wasted a few days killing himself, but in the end it was of course a happy ending.
Maggie packed up the rest of her food, made sure her alarm was turned on and read a good book until it was time for bed.
