GUNFIGHT 2010: Remec vs. bflagsst

I love the fact we get to review them 'blind'. Best way, imo. My hat's off to both gunslingers, my judgement was sent last night, my reviews this afternoon. In the end it was easier than I thought, though maybe for reasons others might disagree with. We shall see :D

Two most excellent adventurers. *nods*

Now aren't you glad I dragged you kicking and screaming into here lol ?

The Results Are In!

Check the 3rd post on the first page of this thread to see the judges results.

Once again, thanks to the poets for their fantastic entries, to the judges for their thorough and excellent reviews and to all of the rest of you, as well.

Happy Valentine's Day to all!

self-consolatory deathbed speech

First off, congratulations to Remec. I'm not only a loser, but theoretically dead. Yesterday when I read our poems back to back I thought I had it. But this morning when I re-read under a different critical mind, likely somewhat objective, I realized how close it would be because we had no way to explain our choices. Not that a poet in a contest would ever get to explain their word choices, but this contest is a little different because it's all about choosing other peoples words.

As for following the rules I stretched them for the ad and in translating the work of art. It doesn't say "as bark is to human skin" on the painting but "Bark : Human skin". For the ad I thought we could choose any ad on the site, I'm not sure why I thought that, but I found a Garmin ad that said "Get Specific". So technically I probably didn't complete two of the five tasks.

The Cohen couplet at the end of the poem I immediately knew was the end of my poem. Me and my fiancee spent most of our past summer nights at a friend's apartment on Clinton Street in Binghamton, NY. We became regulars at the bars and antique stores there. I collect musical instruments, she runs karaoke. :::Groan, I'm dead, aaah. I know what it's like to be dead:::

aw, commiserations, bflagsst, but it was a very close run thing with one vote apiece and the other virtually on the turn of a coin. It was the nearest thing to a draw as could be! :rose:

a brilliant challenge and one you rose to meet far better than many of us could have done given the time.

now don't milk it, my son :D the oscars aren't ready fer you yet, hehehe

You broke my heart, Chipbutty. Now I'm a dead ghost and I'm gonna haunt your pantie drawer.

Meanwhile, Champagne is my new favorite poet on Literotica.

Well done to both poets and congratulations to Remec ....... I guessed correctly who submitted which poem! Special congrats to the judges all of whom did a wonderful job far far better than I could have done! Last but not least thankyou to Charley for getting this place back to the fun challenges we used to have before :rose:

say it's not so!

hmmm -maye the judges' comments need toe given out 'blind' too, to avoid retaliation, hehehehe

my panty drawer, you say?

*wiggles eyebrows*

I'm telling yas. That was a bit of a challenge to judge. GOOOOOOOD JOB to both Wordslingers. Congrats Remec (and yeah I guessed you right off... LOL, your title gave you away, just in that you provided one).

congratulations Remec (I guessed right) and also bflagsst. You both rose well to the challenge.

To keep with tradition, as I thought champagne's poem was better in the contest last year, I think bflag's poem is better this year. I still spit on your grave, Bflagsst, gunfights don't have to be fair and yer ded.

I thought spitting on someones grave was a bad thing ..... but then I'm not American with their quaint customs what do I know ?!

*steps up for a bow, newly ventilated hat in hand*
Thanks...thanks to all the judges and everyone who came out to line the street and watch the shoot-out...was certainly a near thing this time, no doubt, but fun (in that terror-driven, OMG-I-have-to-write-what sort of way) like it has been in the past.

Looking forward to seeing who forms our next group of gunslingers...

congrats, remec :D

that sure was a close run thing.

here's my own little one i just made, giving myself twenty minutes but it's not the same pressure as a challenge:p; it's not too great as a letter but hope it works as a poem:

cold

the end of december
is cold
so much older
so rest your head
cry a little in the dark
sparkle
a little in the dark
call my name
in the dark
it's not okay
it's ... all i know
this
writing into space
the dreadful unknown
sounds crazy, i know

i
ask you a favour
read this letter
a spectre on your desk
peel back the mask
over days over nights
it's not okay
i know
in the dark
in the dark
call my name
crazy
out of control
so much older

december is cold

I think it's a spaghetti western phrase or maybe a Mexican curse from a spaghetti mexi-american war movie.

I hope the next Gunfight occurs before the year is up. That would be fun if it was like two gangs of gunfighters. I don't want to participate though, I just want to stand on the sidelines and give my two cents about the performances like I'm an American Idol viewer.

We have had at least one group gunfight, kinda. It was loads of fun. Interesting idea. Thinking.

It was a tie?

I want Bill Dada, Vampire Dust and 1201 on my team. Bflagsst is dead he can't be on my team.

Thanks, jerk. I want Annaswirls on my team.

I don't remember so. I recall one contender being so late on the deadline that we had to disqualify the submission. You want a group gunfight? :D We'd have to rename it, but you could organize it.

PS: I'd want Bflag, Lauren, Angeline. Wicked Eve, and Champagne, Chippy, Remec, the big guy and Under Your Spell on my side. I only give you Tzara to be fairish. :D

I really like the idea of this, I'd organize it myself if there's any interest. I think I could come up with something really strange and fun. It would probably work better if we chose two or three captains and they rounded up their own team of three or four. I'll stay out and be organizer and judge if we get enough participants.

So if anyone's interested, I'm thinking that each player wouldn't be writing their own poem but having it be like a real group effort to write one or two poems, total collab. Respond here if there's interest and I'll create a new thread if we can get two or three people that want to form a team of three or four. I'm telling you, it will be like Wacky Races if you play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlTlL53KGRs

Great idea! I'm in - but post on a new thread ... your idea will get lost here on this one, b. :)

We have had colloboration before I think it might have been Angeline and The Fool as I recall someone got in a muddle in the middle lol

Now I know how a sacrificial pawn feels.

Lonely, like.

:(

Or, perhaps, simply behind the lines.

Whatever. Same thing. Alienated.

Anyway, you'll need some way for people to say they're willing to do it, some way to choose sides (captains, drafts, kinda like fantasy football or something).

The biggest problem is that you need to have enough people to be on teams and have somebody to run the thing, and have somebody to judge it.

Start a thread to think about it is I think your next step. Or not.

I'm just a pwn.

Apparently.

I'll trade you back Tzara for a box of ChipButtys and UnderYourSpells.

Alright, hey I'll do this. I like the bflagsst as judge, jury, executioner and to make it work we'll need captains, and I'll put forth myself as a captain, and someone else put forth themselves as a captain and we'll each put together our team of four, including ourselves, by messaging those poets we want on our team. Negotiations might be necessary, but it should be whoever you can get to agree to be on your team is yours. If there are eight people playing it might be a stretch trying to get three judges, maybe we can have two judges. Even better, we'll keep the teams secret until the day of the contest, whoever puts the teams together will just say if they've got their team together and are ready for whatever date.
