indeed one should be cautious. having said that, let's look again at the baby argument. the cervix commonly dilates to 10 cm. that's a circumference of 31.4 cm.

as a larger than average male, my "fist"(duckbill shaped) measures 26 cm around. so it will fit in the average woman, provided the task is approached slowly.

let us assume that your pelvic bones are such that nothing over 8 cm will pass. that is a circumference of about 25 cm. so my "fist" would not quite fit.
