When I was such a thing, I wished only to be remembered with a fatter paycheck and maybe, just maybe, a day off.

Instead I got flowers (the cheapest; ugly, unimaginative, and no scent) or an expensive lunch someplace with people I had nothing in common with save a work address.

Well, maybe I shouldn't complain about the lunch; the poached salmon with caviar was just about worth the inane conversation. No, I didn't contribute much; somehow, my interests and those of my employers seldom intersected.

Employers, take note. One lousy day a year does not make up for unexpected overtime, grunt work, disrespect and low pay. Remember your assistants with more money monthly and more respect daily.

you know what i got today for Assistant's Whatever Day? nothing ... nada ...

but on the other hand i work with some wonderful fun people who treat me well and i get great little perks ...

although dammit i was secretly fantasizing about leaving an hour early ... they could have given me that ...
