Happy Birthday Hmmnmm

Interesting. I can write what I experience: really that's all my poetry is. It can get metaphorical as hell but it's always something I've experienced. And I think the trick with fictional prose is that you merge your experience with your imagination. Well duh poetry, too, I suppose but fiction has to have more plausibility, more than a poem where you can let an image or metaphor do the heavy lifting. I'm exploring that now. And it becomes to me like a chess game because I have to see a whole bunch of moves ahead, like if this happens to character x there needs to be a reason somewhere before or after the action. Plus it needs to convey theme and (for me) have some poetry to the language. At least the way I write it does. eagleyez just sits down and writes and it all works for him. I cannot do it that way. I just keep writing about my characters because the more I write, the more real they become to me. But fitting all the puzzle pieces together, man that is hard. I can see why it takes writers years to produce a novel. Of course I'm telling myself everything is a draft and I can go back and change and add and fix things. But it's hard. I'm not used to being this kind of storyteller.

I sound like an idiot! Can you tell I've been thinking about this a lot?

Lol, ok beddy bye time for me. Have I mentioned how much I always enjoy talking with you about writing? :rose:

Well I love thinking about this kind of stuff - because writing to me is just another extension of life- which I am far from expert at, have made plenty of mistakes in, and find the learning-as-I-go approach a pretty interesting way to go. But I would never say it is necessarily the best or only way that others should go unless they can handle a little or a lot of poverty -both existential and very very literal. IOW: We all have our priorities and those priorites are readily perceptible by the way we spend our time.

& shit like that.

it is good to give some grounds their due rests - no regeneration without adequate slumber

aye, a season for everything, and poets are like trees... damn, that's made me remember a poem i've lost somewhere about a tree rousing from winter slumber, the duck-egg blue of the sky, hoary head, twiggy fingers and all. i'm sure i could rewrite that one better now, some 10 years down the line

you been spyin on my pens & papers?

actually I'd been thinking that leaves and people had a lot in common
and if poets are people... serious.

I can write a story (especially a dirty one!) but the punctuation and layout and stuff like that bogs me down and bores me. So I've got the storyline I need the ghost writer!

I don't want to even try to imagine a world whose history was not spiced and sprinkled with dirty jokes and dirty stories and dirty poetry. Or a day without a few dirty thoughts. Cheers to the dirty!
