Has any other woman

I have a couple times as a result of screwy birth control pills (or coming off of them). However, I'd suggest getting to the doctor right away to pinpoint the cause and some solutions...it can't be healthy to bleed for that long.

Good luck! :rose:

My gf did for 2 weeks recently. but that's cause her doctor switched her pills, and she got her period a week early, and then had a break for 3 days, then got it again. But now she's back to normal. Girls and their silly hormones!

edit: her doctor was involved throughout the process, so it was all monitored.

I'm sure you know this, but being on the pill usually shortens the length and severity of periods. Definitely don't take "it's all in your head" for an answer...insist on having the tests (including anemia) and seeing a specialist if necessary (and avoid a hysterectomy at all costs).

Bleeding 5 days my ass, i bled nearly a fucking week. Not to mention it left me with a damn crush on a guy i used to hate:rolleyes:

I recently went back on birth control after being off it for a little over a year. I had my period for the first month straight (heavy). I was spotty all throughout the 2nd month, which I'm just finishing up now. If things don't clear up during my next pill pack, I'm talking to my doctor about switching to a new brand. Generic Orthotricyclen just isn't working as well as it did the first time I was on it (was on the real, non-generic stuff for 5 years).

Whether you're going through a change in medication or not, I would suggest talking to your doctor. It's good to keep him/her informed anyway.

Periods are bad enough, but getting them for so long is absolutely horrible. Not only does it put a serious damper on your sex life, but you just feel plain gross...with undertones of worry that things might not be normal. Talk to your doc, and hope and pray that things sort themselves out ASAP.

I still have my periods really heavy and I am on the pill. It drives me nuts sometimes when i don't get to the bathroom on time

bleed for 10 days straight or is it just me:confused: :(

Avery I checked your age just to make sure it wasn't the perimenopause but you're not really old enough for that, though some women do go into menopause early.

I'm in my mid 40s and had a lot of trouble last year with missed periods and then getting them lasting for 10 or more days with very heavy bleeding and clots. I've had my tubes tied which can have nasty effects on the menstrual cycle too. My doctor put me back on a low dose birth control pill which has regulated me and kept my periods manageable.

I would recommend that any change in bleeding be seen by a doctor. My problem was easily fixed and I'm so glad I didn't put up with it and try to cope alone :)

Lynxie, you might want to try a monophasic pill. I had major problems like you're describing (plus a huge ovarian cyst which got me an appendectomy) on triphasic pills like OrthoTriCyclen.

Strength could also be an issue...technically I don't qualify for the "low dose" pills, but they work fine, and anything stronger turns me into the psychobitch from hell.

It's all chemistry...I've probably tried 30 different pills in 8 years, and some of the worked fine and then quit working after awhile (in terms of slowing the period).

My sister has recently had bouts of irregular bleeding and spotting when it wasn't even her period. I think her doctor said it had to do with hormones or something...

I had some serious bouts with bleeding a few years back, it was a combination of things, fibroids, cysts, bc pills, meds, and diet. I went off the pill, added progest and changed my diet to include no added hormones. I eat only hormone free meat now. I am much better.

my friend told me 2 ask about paxil i think its called. Ever since the birth of my only child my periods' have gotten worse, and I've been under alittle stress but this is just un-FUCKING-believable:eek:

you didn't by chance have a caesar, did you?
because that screwed up my cycle - i bled 16 days out of every month for over 3 years, before the doc finally listened to me and put me on the pill.

the extra scar tissue caused me to build much much more than the usual amount of lining every month, and the result was disastrous.
being stuck at home for a week at a time, going through a pack of maternity pads every 36 hours, cramping, and severe iron deficiency.

i feel for you - no woman should have to go through this shit :(

Nor should any guy either! Hell, if that happened to my woman, I'd be scared shitless.

I am pretty normal now at 5-7 days or as normal as I have ever been. I did have an episode about 4 years back where it was anywhere from spotting to a heavy bleed for 9 weeks straight .. they tried many versions of the pill to get it to stop unsuccessfully. The last resort was a single depo shot which proceeded to screw me up and make me period free for 11 months when they decided that wasn't good either and it was time for another pill to start things up again. Knock on wood I have been fine since besides missing one here or there.

If you don't think its birth control then its quite possibly a fibroid tumor. I had one right inside my cervex. Eventually got so bad I would bleed everytime I had an orgasm! That sucked bad. I had a little procedure done that worked really good (down to 2 mini pads a month).

my .02 1/2 cents

just a thought... have 'em check your Thyroid. after bleeding like Niagra Falls even WITH b/c pills, my thyroid was found to be out of whack.

also, what everyone else said about the fybroids & such is a good idea. when my mom was younger (before 25), she'd bleed for 2 weeks straigt and nothing for oh, 6 months. come to find out, it was ovarian cysts.
