Okay, so I was just recently out with some friends and we ended up talking about some of the creepy stuff that has happened in our pasts. Gave me a fairly good shiver it did, and I liked it so I thought I would see if anyone else would like to impart some spooky stories from their pasts.

The best I can do from my past isn't really even mine. My mom and my sister would both have this nightmare where they were being strangled in their beds by a man with a goatie, it would startle them awake but they would continue to feel like they were still being strangled. My mom had these type of dreams when she was in her twenties, not long before my sister was born I believe. Then my sister when she was about sixteen.

Yeah, kinda a lame story, I know, but it still unerves the both of them to think about it...

RAVENLOFT...

Hi, nice to meet you...

I think what you're referring to is called a night terror. I suffered from them for about 2 years.

In my case they would manifest themselves as an overwhelming anxiety that someone was in the room with me. I would be in that murky phase between waking and sleep, and I would be convinced that someone was standing in my bedroom. The part that was really terrifying was that I couldn't make myself move. I would lie in bed in a cold sweat (quite literally) for what seemed like hours willing my body to move, but I was paralyzed. I was so convinced on a few occasions someone was in the house that when I had awakened enough to finally react physically, I got a gun and searched my house.
I don't know what caused these episodes, but thankfully I haven't had one in about four years. They ended almost immediately after I moved out of my last house.

Actually seen one

I used to live in New Jersey, along the coast. Needless to say, there were many, many old Victorian houses that were supposedly haunted. Including mine.

And I swear it was. I'd hear the usual bumps in the night, but I wasn't a chicken, so I'd ignore them for the most part. But one night... *shudders* I still get creeped out sleeping alone.

Here's the background of my house:

It was an old Victorian cottage with the neat wrap around porch. My room had a balcony with a lilac bush beneath. Anyway, the gentleman that had owned the house before us had lived there for nearly 100 years. (He was 97.) Anyway, for some reason or another, he couldn't afford to pay the bills, but he loved the house so much that he didn't want to leave.

He locked himself in what was my room and died. I mean, I knew the story, but I just never thought about it. So, anyway, I was lying in my bed one summer night, on the verge of sleeping, when my dad yelled at me to quit running around. And it wasn't me. Okay, creaky floorboards, right? *shrugs* Might have been. I heard him, but I went back to sleep thinking "It wasn't me!"

I woke up in the middle of the night with this strange feeling that somebody was in the room with me. Normally, I slept with the balcony doors open, curtains fluttering. That night was no different. Anyway, I sat up, and looked around, expecting to see my dad or mom in there or something. Instead...

There was somebody standing on my balcony staring in at me. It wasn't a freaky stare.. just kind of sad and lonely. Whatever it was (be it a ghost or my imagination) was there for a minute, and then just kinda misted away. I just stared at where it was and just screamed. I have never been so scared in my life.

I don't think whatever it was would have hurt me... but I was eight, waking up to some strange apparition in my bedroom. What was I supposed to do? *g*

Dreams can be very, very frightening. I believe a person can do some amasing things in them once they have figured out how to slip into a lucid state though.

I am sure I would be shocked out of my skin if I were to see an apparation like that, but also intregued by it...

I'm liking this folks! Keep it coming?

Honey, I got tons.

About a block from my house, (which was another block from the Harbor) there was this creepy, rundown little shack set back in the woods. Now, every time I would walk our Chow dog, Penny, past it, she would bark and growl like crazy. And she wasn't a viscious dog at all. When she growled, she meant it.

We were passing by it one day, and her leash slipped out of my hands. (I was wearing mittens to my credit *g*) Being the protective breed she is, she ran toward the house, convinced something was in it, I guess. I of couse had to run after her, or face a super severe butt-kicking at home. Plus, I loved her mangy hide. *g*

Anyway... I digress. Ah, yes. The shack. I had to run back toward that shack just at sunset. This happened after the guy in my bedroom, and just by walking closer to the shack I got chills. I was freaking, but I also wanted to see if something would appear, like in my bedroom. I LOVE the idea of ghosts.

I couldn't find her at first, but I kept searching. Turns out, she was INSIDE. I had to go in and get her. That was the weirdest thing. I walked in, tried to ignore my surroundings (there was just a BAD feeling about that place), and grabbed her leash.

No sooner had I picked it up, then I felt something touch my shoulder. It wasn't just a weird prickly feeling, it was weight. I felt it there, just hanging on. Of course I spun to find out what it was, but nothing was there.

A couple weeks after that, they tore the shack down. Strange thing?

They found the body of an elderly woman beneath the floor boards, supposedly right where I was when I grabbed Penny's chain.

Thank you again FeatherLight.

Anyone else had strange experences in their pasts?

This one time at bandcamp...........okay had to say that, just had to.
Seriously though. Sure I have had some "freaky" experiences as a younger boy. I used to work on this farm as a younger boy (like 12-15) and there was a barn that was supposed to be 'haunted' and we decided one night to see if it was true. Well let me just say this, as the story would take way longer than I have to tell, all the money in the world could not make me stay there that night. Maybe it was my mind playing tricks but I heard what I heard and I SAW what I SAW and that is all I am gonna say......so sure I have had some freaky, scary experiences. I am a believer.

I See Dead People

Hello Ravenloft!

I have had many the encounter:)

My Grandparents house was haunted by some weird things. In the middle of the night pots and pans would bang and crash, drawers and cupboards would open and slam and occasionally empty out onto the floor.
The basement was a place of fear for my aunts and I, when I was going down the stairs one day, I saw a huge rattlesnake on the bottom stair and screamed for someone anyone to come, but when they got there it had magically disappered.

The day my grandparents moved into their new house, they found and threw out some "Very Frightening paintings" that were on the walls of the basement, only to hear strange things all night and wake to find them back in the house the next day!

I had a recurring dream that a bald guy was chasing me all around the city. I had that one for years then they stopped when he finally caught me. No worries though, he just wanted to say "BOO".
One when I was 17 that featured the cat from hell, Can you picture a 17 year old girl running to her fathers bed and sleeping with him cuz she was too afraid to sleep by herself?
And another just recently that starred manical little children trying to kill me.

Back to the ghosties though, cuz they are less scary than the stupid dreams.
In the Don Vally ( A Huge parkland where I live) My friends and I were sent screaming and running from our bonfire, when an unknown force seemed to take pleasure in appearing before us and causing us to shit our pants:)
Then there was my favorite. I was in a little clothing store on Younge st, loking at clothes on one of those round clothing racks, when another lady suddenly was there looking at the same rack across from me. I started to say something amusing to her about the sizes, looking right at her when she disappered before my very eyes!

She was annoyed about the size 2's and 8's as well I guess:)

There are more, but I am getting a little on edge telling these ones now.

I have listened to many peoples recounts of their experences with spooks, some times in the very house where they have had them... Those times are the best because you get that little shiver down your back...

I think we have a phantom cat here... We had a kitten not long ago that came down with a virus of some sort that led to its suffocating on its own fluids... Died right here in the house, in the living room. We had no idea that the virus was gonna be that horrible, got him meds to pull him through with the assurance that he would be alright, but he just couldn't stomach them... By the time we saw that it was no use it was too late to do anything... Couldn't even get him to the vet to have him put to sleep. Man, that was hard...

So... Anyway...

Our cats will be sauntering along and everything, flick ther tail up toward their back then bolt, or jump, one of the two, and its like nothing was there to startle them or anything... Maybe those damn cats are pussies, I don't know... They only get jumpy like that in the one spot of the house...

*Shrugging*

Thats sadly the best recounting of weird stuff I have to offer... Heheh!

When I lived on prince Edward Island we had a cat I swear was demon possesed. I could fel that thing stare at me through the wall in th emiddle of the night, I was youg my bed was in the same one bedroom that my mom's was, it was a 2 room house. I wooke up several nights in a row screaming that the cat was staring at me and mom got up and went in the other room and everytime the cat was sitting on the shelf, starring at the wall into where my bed would be if there was a window, after a week ofthis mom got rid of the cat cause it was too freaky for her even though she could not explain it.

So bratcat, YOUR the one thats causing my kitties a scare! Shame on you! Heheh!

That is rather freaky Todd... We used to have a cat that would plant its face square into the carpet when it slept. It would wait along side the archway between the kitchen and the living room to attack my sisters legs when she came through too... That cat was insane. Wouldn't think animals could have mental problems like that but I swear if it had been a human it would have been Hannibal, got rid of that psycho real quick. Hehehe!

Okay, back to the spooky stuff...

Anyone? Anyone?

The only other thing i can thing oh on the heavy side of the scale is when I was babysitting my nephew, I went to get him in the back yard for dinner and when I did he was standing in the sand box shaking hands with what apeared to be a 7 foot man that was on fire, when I stopped running to the nephew and looked at waht I was seeing the figure looked in my direction and sunk into the ground.

When I brought my nephew into dinner he asked me why I scared his friend away.

I didn;'t let him go outside again that day and later on when He was in playing a video game I was out washing the dishing s I felt eyes behind me and turned around to look a dn the same figure was in the center of the yard and looking at me, he pointed at me and sunk into the ground as before and that was the last I had seen of him. and the last I ever statyed there alone.

My dad was hospitalized for seven months, gradually growing sicker and weaker until he eventually died in January 1998. The night before he died, I dreamed that I was sitting at my desk at work, and the phone rang. When I picked up the phone, the voice at the other end said, "I'm sorry, but your father is dead." At that point I woke up. As that day went on, I felt an increasing sense of dread, until I got a phone call from my mom at about 4 pm, telling me that my dad had taken a bad turn and could I come home right away so that we could go to the hospital together. I left the office right away, but we hit one delay after another on the way to the hospital. Finally we arrived, only to find that he had died about twenty minutes before.

I've thought about that dream a lot since then, and I still don't know what to make of it. I never had a dream like that before, and I don't ever want to have one like it again.

Ah! Thank you TG.

That brought back the memory of the story my mom related about her father... They say just minutes before he died that he sat up with a serene smile then simply laid back down and passed away... That and that his son's watched left off at the time of his death.

Completely off the subject but I remember how he would give me and my sister the royal bumps... (Lifting ya up and bumping your bum off the wall... Heheh!) He was a good man, loved his children and his children's children... *Sigh*

Okay, memory lane had a detour, sorry bout that. Heheh!

Our old house in Bridlington was originally built as an extension to the victorian house next door. The room that we used as a lounge was originally a ballroom and the whole house was intended for parties and socialising. It seemed to have had fun built into the brickwork, because we had parties there that people were still talking about when we left two years ago. Anyway, many times when I came into the house on my own, as I came through the front door, I could clearly hear piano music and singing from the lounge.
Good times can reach beyond the grave too.

Boat load!

Oh God, were do I start? The house I currently live in Is located on the main battlefield of the War of 1812. I havelived here for 8 years and have continuosly experianced bizare shit. It all has been mainly directed at me, exctept my Mom, who used to live here, and my husband have both co-witnessed activity, of strangeness.

The worst, most unnerving, is that during summer of 1993, I was sitting by my open bedroom window, in a dark room, looking out on to the front yard, while I smoked. I suddenly heared a layerd voice, combining the tones of men and womens voices, with different pitch in each voice say in exact presision the same phrase, "I see you" and then in the same "voice" whatever it was laughed at me when I looked around and said "I don't see you!". I was so annoyed that I couldn't see anything that I just shut the window, I hate being laughed at. It was very unnerving.

This other time I was in the same room, painting at my ezel, late at night. I heard my kitty paw at the door so I let her in. I continued my work. Rudy jumped into the window we she sat for awhile, but then, while looking at the end of the the end of the street, she began to growl her kitty growl. I went to the window and looked out but saw nothing. I did, however notice that my neighbors lights were on in their bedroom and one of her cats was up in the window.

I locked in on him and tried to listen carefully. I saw him switching his tail, and my cat was doing the same. I couldn't here the other cat because of how loud she was being. The cats both stared at the same direction for a bit more, and then my kitty jumped down and ran to the door and cried. I let her out but when she ran into the hallway, she stopped, turned and cried with big eyes. I told her to come back. She did and when whe ran in she jumped back in the window.

(Here's where it gets hard to describe) I started to shut the door and with about two feet left to shut it , a gust of wind came in the window, sucking the door out of my hand. I heard my cat scream and fall out of the window and hit my bed below and become instantly flat and paralized. I saw her, and went for her. When I got to her, I soothed her a bit, but I looked up on my window, and on the Black screen, backed the dark sky, were two big capital "R"s that were stacked on top of one another, in a really light color. I thought it looked like powdery chalk on the screen. When I checked with my finger, It was bleached into the screen.

I moved out of that room very quickly after. The letters never dissapeared. I showed my mom, dad, and friends, and told everyone the story. The screen was left like it was, for years, as proof, but one day my dad had to change the screen because of cat claw damage. There is more, but it's scaring me.

G.R. I was getting the shivers way over here. Thats how you know its a good recount of your experiences... If you ever get the nerve I would like to hear more.

Night Terrors

I've had a few episodes of the night terrors too.. Scary as hell when it happens and I never want it to happen again. The most recent was about a month ago and was the worst so far.

A while back I did searches on dreams and so-on and found night terrors described on some of those sites.. it was a relief to know I wasn't the only one getting freaked!

My first experience with the terrors was remarkably similar to Ravenlofts first recounting. It started as a nightmare that kept getting worse, and the star of the show was my mother who's face was 2 dimensional and had drawn on ears and freaky eyes like when you draw on the photos in newspapers and turn them into aliens and blokes with glasses.. you know what I mean. Anyway if it wasn't bad enough that she was an alien, she was also screaming at me and started strangling me. well I woke up and couldn't breathe, could still feel her hands and couldn't move, I freaked. Didn't sleep for the rest of that night!

The next few times were just as terrifying. hands holding my upper arms, an arm around my waist, a hand gripping on my ankle.. needless to say I have had my fair share of the Night Terrors! two of these experiences happened when I was sharing my bed with my then boyfriend. we were both still awake, but trying to go to sleep. I was lying on my side facing away from him and he was on his back when I had this attack. I felt an arm around me holding me down and I couldn't move and I couldn't cry out.. I finally managed a kind of strangled gurgle and immediatly it went away. My boyfriend asked if I was ok and I told him what happened and he freaked. I was pretty damn upset and he was so freaked he went and slept on the sofa for the rest of the night. hmph. so much for mucho males. I coulda done with some comfortimg!

Anyway the most recent and most frightening one was like I said, about a month ago. I had just dozed off and I only had a sheet over me (it's summer) when I woke up suddenly. I could feel a hand holding my crotch. I was lying on my front and both my hands were under my pillow so I KNOW it wasn't me. If there had been an arm attached to the hand I would have had to have been lying on it. again I couldn't move and I felt these fingers moving against me. Let me tell you there was nothing stimulating about the experience. Heck I though I had an intruder fondling me.. I was scared to death! I tried to make a noise like what worked the other times and it just wasn't happening. by this time it was getting on towards 2 minutes of total freaky which is also way longer than usual. I tried to say the "Lords Prayer" as a talisman I guess.. try to hold something up that I believe is stronger than myself. my mouth wouldn't work the words and my breathing was getting worse with the fear (I'm asthmatic) I was able to think the prayer in my head but trying to force my mouth was one of the hardest things I have ever done. after saying it in my head over and over and over my mouth finally began to mumble it out. I sounded like a child learning to speak after running hard and with a mouth full of popcorn. It took me mumbling the whole prayer before the hand began to fade away. Unusual again because normally they vanish as soon as I make a sound. brr. scary shit.

I wouldn't wish the Night Terrors on anyone.
