Have you ever cried at your work?

Shit.

The first one is always the hardest. I'm offering a horned shoulder if you need one.

I've just brought tears to my eyes by being thoroughly mean to my characters. I know what's going to happen at the end already, I know I'm going to kill one of them and I know how it's going to happen. Yet I still had tears in my eyes as I wrote the scene of him begging him, pleading with him not to leave, knowing that he's going off to try and sacrifice himself to save her.

I just hope my writing lives up to the pictures in my head and I make my readers cry as well.

Have you ever done this?

Yep. In fact, I'm having a really hard time completing my novel simply because I have to kill off a character I've fallen in love with.

That happened towards the end of my novel. I ended up not killing her after all.

This one though, somebody's gonna die! And I'm gonna make Scarlett suffer with it, I think.

JKR said she cried rivers when she killed off Sirius Black in OotP. I hope and pray she'll shed a few tears for that little slut Ginny Weasley in the final book. :catroar:

I've never cried about any of my characters, mostly because all my stories tend to be happy. In two of them, the man is pushing hinself on the woman, and succeeds but she has such a great time, and so does he, they establish a mutually enjoyable relationship. The story I will be submitting to the Halloween contest is an exception to this rule, however.

How do you answer that?

Say no, and what you don't care enough about your characters? Say yes, and what are you doing? They are figments of your imagination loosely sculpted around people you know or wish to know.

Have I ever cried writing a story? No, I try not to kill my characters without it meaning something. I rarely kill my characters to be truthful. I think I killed one main character in the entirety of my writing career, but I knew he was going to die from the moment I created him.

Of course if you talk about poetry I can't say that same thing with certainty.

This is kinda weird. I wrote a multi-chapter story last year - it went to like 23 - 24 chapters. While I was in the middle of Chapter 12, I got to thinking how I was going to end the entire story with my 3 main characters dying. Even though the story was basically a humor piece I had gotten so attached to the characters that I was actually crying as I was planning their deaths - 11 chapters in advance.
This is kinda weird.

Rarely do I actually cry to write a death, mostly I'm just feeling drained around the death or sad effect like I could cry at any minute but don't. I think the only time I did cry was for the reuniting of a character with her dead girlfriend at the end of the story, because it was really bittersweet.
