Alex didn't want to look at the ring in her hand. She knew what it meant even before the Prince spoke.

“I fear Paul has been killed in France Alex.”

She shook her head wanting desperatly to deny it. Surely she'd have known if her husband was dead. Surely she would have felt her heart breaking in her chest or felt his absence in her sould but she hadn't. Tears welled in her eyes and she couldn't look up at Geoffrey as her fingers tightened around the ring in her palm.

Shifting in her chair she pulled her knees to her chest, her hand holding the ring over her heart and began to rock where she sat, like a small lost child. She didn't feel his arms around her or even realize that Caroline had joined them. She was lost in her longing for Paul, her need for him and the tears that rolled down her cheeks did so unheeded. How long they sat together with the Royals trying to comfort her she didn't know, eventually she looked up and was startled to see them both.

In a raggid and aching voice she managed to ask softly, "How? How did this happen Geoffrey? I want details" her voice was hard edged now and for the first time the full force of her will, a will she often submitted to him and his wife, was turned upon the Prince and wouldn't be denied. She'd have her answers or there'd be hell to pay and without the worry of protecting Paul she no longer cared about the consequences.

Her voice was hard edged now and for the first time the full force of her will, a will she often submitted to him and his wife, was turned upon the Prince and wouldn't be denied. She'd have her answers or there'd be hell to pay and without the worry of protecting Paul she no longer cared about the consequences.

God how The Prince loved the fire that coursed through every fiber of this ravishing young beauty. He would have her and in the end she would come to him for she would have no other place to go.

“Byron Essex saw him in the market talking to a butler Essex knew from England. I believe his name was Jonas. Essex denounced Paul and in the ensuing riot both Paul and Essex where killed in a Fight with the Guard National.”

Geoffrey’s voice was near to breaking as he related the details of the incident. Caroline was softly stroking Alex’s tawny flaxen hair, she was crying and her tears mingled with Alex’s. her arms tightly around the young woman’s shoulders.

“In a month it will be announced that the Viscount Delery died in service to the crown and a memorial service will be held at the family home on the Isle of Jersey.”

The Prince paused and his own eyes shimmered with unshed tears.

“Alex would you like to attend as his fiancée?”

Geoffrey kissed away Alex’s tears as he waited for her answer.

“Byron Essex saw him in the market talking to a butler Essex knew from England. I believe his name was Jonas. Essex denounced Paul and in the ensuing riot both Paul and Essex where killed in a Fight with the Guard National.”

Jonas?! Surely not her Jonas! For a moment Alex felt a flicker of hope. If Jonas had gone to France than he'd done so to see Paul. Perhaps Paul's death was nothing more than a ruse? Before that hope could fully form it died. She was grasping at straws and she knew it. She didn't want her husband to be dead, would give anything for him to come striding through the door and sweep her into his arms.

Fresh tears rolled down her cheeks at the image of him coming to aid, her knight in shining armor. He'd never come to retrieve her now, she'd never again feel the strength of his arms wrapped around her, hear the love in his voice when he said her name.

“In a month it will be announced that the Viscount Delery died in service to the crown and a memorial service will be held at the family home on the Isle of Jersey. Alex would you like to attend as his fiancée?”

The question startled her and for a moment she simply stared at the Prince while he kissed away her tears but suddenly she wrenched herself from her chair and flung herself away from the Royals, fire and fury burning in her gaze.

"His fiancee? He was my husband! He was the first and only man I've ever fully trusted and loved, the man whose vows I've betrayed nearly every day since I returned from France and who you sent to his death and you'd have me pretend we were never wed?! Now when I'll never be able to tell him how much I loved him, how sorry I am for every betrayal of his love, how deeply I worried for him and how in the end it was concern for him the melted my resolve and had me submitting to you and you both?!"

Pure unadulterated rage blew through Alex leaving no room for any sort of common sense as she spoke to the Prince and Princess, "I was forced to deny my marriage during his life to protect YOUR interests and now you'd have me do it even in his death as well! Get away from me or I swear I will not be responsible for what happens!"

Carline shrieked and ran from the room sobbing and when he spoke Geoffrey voice shook and his own tears freely flowed down his cheeks.

“You are quite correct Alex and I do not blame you for your hatred of us.”

The prince’s face was crimson his voice audibly shaking as he continued.

“It will be announced that you married Paul the night before he left and that you are in fact his wife”.

He sank to his knees and buried his face in her lap sobbing like a lost child..

“Oh God I am so sorry Alex.”

Alex watched Caroline run from the room but this time she felt no pity for the apoiled Princess. Her own pain and rage occluded any feeling she could have felt for anyone else. What was Caroline's pain compared to hers? NOTHING! Turning hard eyes to Geoffrey she was startled when he agreed she had every right to hate them and even more so when he sank to his knees in front of her crying nearly as much as she was.

“It will be announced that you married Paul the night before he left and that you are in fact his wife”.

He sank to his knees and buried his face in her lap sobbing like a lost child..

She stared down at him for a long moment before slowly wrapping her arms around him and sharing his grief.

"Nothing can be done for it Geoffrey, he knew the risks involved and he loved you and Caroline enough to brave those risks. He judged the cost worth it. I barely had him in life Geoffrey, please keep your promise to announce that we were married and at least let me have him now in the only way left to me."

I barely had him in life Geoffrey, please keep your promise to announce that we were married and at least let me have him now in the only way left to me."

When the Prince felt Alex’s arms around him he knew that he had played his hand well. His grief was genuine and yet he still lusted for the flaxen haired beauty. Now that Delery was out of the way Alex had no place to turn to, certainly not her father, society already believed her to be The Prince’s mistress, She had no place to turn but to the Prince.

“I will Alex I promise.”

Geoffrey voice fairly dripped with sincerity. Now the waiting game began he knew that Alex would need time to grieve but soon very soon she would need human solace and comfort to be able to face each knew Day and the Prince would be there for her and soon she would come willingly to his bed begging him to take her to ease the pain.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Delery hated deceiving Alex but he knew it was the only way. He knew well how the Prince’s mind worked and all he could do for now was waited till Alex was out of Windsor and he could effect her rescue.

“I will Alex I promise.”

Alex nodded and said nothing more. She didn't ask anything else of the Prince or Princess except that the truth of her relationship with Paul be known. She wanted to be allowed to mourn him properly and society would never allow it if they thought her merely his Mistress.

The Prince stayed awhile longer but neither of them spoke and eventually he left her to her grief. Over the following days she had her dresses packed and had fresh gowns ordered, all in black. The color made her skin look even paler and her eyes more vivid. Eyes that were rarely dry except when she ran out of tears. It seemed that everyone in the Palace went out of their way to give her space, the servants slid silently out of her way, Caroline fastiduously avoided her and Geoffrey was always courteous but never pushed himself on her for which she was grateful.

What she dreaded was the first affair that would once more demand she be among those of her own social class. She didn't know how she would respond to being at a ball or dinner party surrounded by those that would look on her with pity, scorn, and who knew what else. She dreaded it. Dreaded it all the more because as yet the Prince hadn't kept his promise and each time she saw him her eyes accused him.

True to his word in one month’s time the announcement was made that Lord Viscount Delery had been killed in service to the crown and was survived by his wife Alexandra Smythe Delery and that in a month’s time a memorial service would be held at the family seat on the Isle of Jersey. The Prince canceled all royal social occasions at the palace and now Alex was totally cut off from all contact very secure in her golden cage.

Her supple young body so use to pleasure now having for a month had been robbed of what it had come to need as much as the breath of life.

Alex barely remembered she was in a gilded cage. She so rarely saw either of the Royal pair that she often forgot that she couldn't leave. Even if she could, where would she go? When at last Geoffrey made the announcement that she and Paul had in fact been wed so started to once more offer him small, though sad, smiled and her eyes no longer accused him with every glance.

Part of her blamed him for her husbands death but the greater part of her knew that Paul had known the risks he took and thought them worth it to help the Prince Regent. She too had thought them worth the risks to keep the country she loved safe.

Now she wondered.

Still she no longer cried each morning on waking and gradually she'd begun to see beauty around her once more. Things would startle her and make her think forcefully of Paul at times but slowly her memories began to move gently to the background instead of totally consuming her every waking moment. Food no longer tasted like sawdust and she once more found some small pleasure in her reading.

As she rediscovered small pleasures she found her body aching and feeling bereft without a lovers touch. She yearned for her husband but knew that was impossible and wondered if she shouldn't take the Prince up on the invitation she often saw in his gaze. She'd shake her head and sigh softly.

After the memorial perhaps. Paul deserved that much. He'd deserved a wife that would remain faithful and true to him and instead he'd gotten her, the least she could do is remain chaste until after his memorial service.

After that she didn't know...she had nowhere else to go, no one else to turn to outside of the palace.

God but she felt lost.

Geoffrey watched Alex’s slow return to life, as she slowly once again joined the life of the castle that had become her world. He was pleased that the accusing glances disappeared after the announcement of her wedding to Delery became common knowledge. She was stunning in her black gowns, that now made up her wardrobe, the pale radiance of her skin, the shimmering living corn silk gold of her hair, and soon he could detect the faint subtle fragrance of her arousal and he saw her fighting it in an effort to remain true to the memory of Delery. He knew he must tread carefully as not to ignite her firry temper but a time passed he knew that Alex’s young body was starved for a lovers attention.

Delery was the first to introduce Alex to carnal joy and they had, had but a few days together, where as Geoffrey had been Alex’s lover and in reality her master, for much longer. He knew just how to touch her in a soft subtitle way that would ignite her passions before she was even aware that her body was responding to him and once the golden haired beauty’s passions blazed she was lost.

He came to Alex one evening as she sat in her room.

“Alex come here.”

His voice was soft and he held a small locket in his hand. He opened it and in the chaste silver locket was a portrait of Delery as an officer of the Kings Guards and the Prince as a young cadet.

“He was more of a father to me than the King has ever been but more than that he was my friend.”

They where standing very close and Alex could feel the heat of his body and its muscular firmness.

“I want you to have this.”

He open the chain to the locket so he could place it around her slender neck as the Princes hands circled Alex’s neck his hard body pressed to hers, she could feel his desire for her pressing against her belly his breath seductively hot and moist on her neck. Geoffrey’s lips sensually brushed Alex’s in an intimate invitation.

“Alex come here.”

She was startled to find Geoffrey in her room. He hadn't entered it since the night he'd told her of Paul's death and she'd almost forgotten that her room was connected to his and Caroline's. Without thinking about it she rose from her chair and closed the distance between them to see what it was that he held in his hand.

The locket was beautiful! When she opened it and saw the small potrait of her beloved tears sprang to her eyes and rolled quietly down her cheeks. She didn't know how to thank him for such a gift. It was another way to keep her Paul close, she already kept his signet within the pocket of her gown so that it was always close and when she slept it rests on her bedside table. She planned to have it resized to fit her right hand at her soonest opprotunity.

Now Geoffrey had given her somthing else to remember her love by and that act touched her. She trembled when he stepped close enough to put the necklace around her neck and unconciously her head tipped up, her lips soft and pliant under his for a moment in the gentle thanks that she couldn't find words for.

Desire exploded through her body in a heady rush of need that made her draw back with a gasp and her hand flew to the locket around her neck to clutch it tightly.

"Geoffrey..I-I'm sorry but I can't. Please, I betrayed him with you while he lived, let me mourn him properly. I've nowhere else to go, Paul's lands and titles will go to his closest male relative not to his wife. Give me my time to mourn Geoffrey and I promise, if you still want me, I'll come to you willingly after the funeral. Give me that long to say goodbye...Please." Her voice as she pleaded with the Prince was soft, childlike. She knew he could play her body if he wished, draw her pleasure from her until she gave into him now but she offered to come to him, to give herself to him as a willing pet if only he'd give her her time to mourn.

She hoped the proposal would intrigue him enough to accept it.

The prince let Alex rest in his arms let her feel his body close to hers, let her need slowly treacherously build and when he spoke his voice was soft and soothing.

“Betrayal Alex how did you betray Paul?”

He paused his dark sorrowful eyes holing hers captive.

“Did he not sent you here to Windsor? Had you not spoken of your concerns to him in Paris? Alex was not it his desire that you come her to me and to Caroline?”

All that The Prince said was true, and no matter what else Alex could not deny that truth. Little did she know Paul had sent her to Windsor believing she would be safe and her virtue would be safe in the Royal’s keeping. Had she not asked if she should rebuff Caroline’s advances had he not told her to serve them both, and was that not his wish?

“Alex Paul was a man who loved life he had little use for morning do you think he would wish you to deny yourself or would he have wanted you to find what pleasure you could to ease your pain?”

There was no denying what Geoffrey said was true he had been a man full of life and he had lived it to the fullest.

“I too miss him Ales more than words can tell and you are all that remains of him. Would you deny me the only link I have to him?”

Geoffrey’s lips brushed Alex’s in a tender inviting kiss, an intimate invitation for what her young body craved.

“The choice is yours, but what would Paul have wanted Alex?”

“I too miss him Ales more than words can tell and you are all that remains of him. Would you deny me the only link I have to him?”

Alex looked up to hold the Prince's gaze, her eyes dark with her grief and she saw his own sorrow reflected back from his gaze. Hadn't she thought the very things he was now saying out loud? Hadn't she herself wondered what Paul had mean in Paris? And now there was this too, that Geoffrey saw her as his last link to a lost friend.

It was all so much to bear! When his lips sought hers she leaned into the gentle invitation offered in that kiss and let herself get lost in it. Let herself revel in the gentleness it offered, the solace it promised, the very fact that for a moment it made her forget her grief.

“The choice is yours, but what would Paul have wanted Alex?”

Drawing back gently she turned and moved to stand at the window of her room, her eyes dark and staring out over the grounds laid out before her, the moonlight shining down bathing them in a soft glow.

"I don't know what Paul would have wanted Geoffrey. I love him more than I can find words for but we didn't have long together. We didn't discuss what would happen to me if I lost him other than for me to forbid him to die. He didn't listen very well did he?" she asked with a small laugh that was as much a small sob as anything else.

"Geoffrey, I'm not asking for time because I think it's what Paul would want, I'm asking for it because it's what I need. I want you, even now my body still hums from that kiss and if you kissed me again it's likely all my resolve would melt away. Eventually I would hate you for it though. I'm not asking you to give up your last connection to Paul just to let me mourn him. After the funeral I'll come to you and stay here as long as you wish me to.

The choice is yours Geoffrey. You can have me now or then and either way my body would respond but if you take me now all you'll ever have is my body and my mind will constantly be seeking escape. If you choose patience I'll stay in my gilded cage and never test the door until you set me free yourself."

"Geoffrey, I'm not asking for time because I think it's what Paul would want, I'm asking for it because it's what I need. I want you, even now my body still hums from that kiss and if you kissed me again it's likely all my resolve would melt away.

The Prince stood there and he knew he could pres Alex and take her weather her heart came with her body or not really did not matter for as she said she was in a gilded cage yet before he could say anything Caroline’s soft tear choked voice filled the room with a soft whispered plea.

Alex Geoffrey was not slept but fitfully sinse the news of Paul’s death arrived.

The little Princess sniffled, a little sob escaped her full ripe lips.

I can not ease his sorrow nor can I comfort him if you don’t Alex then what will become of him, what will become of England?”

Caroline’s voice became a little stronger, and impassioned.

”Paul died for England, he knew the terrible danger that the country is in and yet you think only of your own grief. Did he die in vain Alex?”

Caroline fell to her knees and cried her heart out for her inability to comfort the Prince. The Prince called Her maid and they took her to her bed where she wailed.

It was late when Geoffrey again came to Alex’s chamber looking more worn and tired than she had ever seen him. He simply collapsed in the chair by the window lowered his head into his hands and cried.

”Paul died for England, he knew the terrible danger that the country is in and yet you think only of your own grief. Did he die in vain Alex?”

Alex growled softly, the sound low and threatening as she turned to look at the Princess, a sharp retort there on her lips but she held it back as the other woman collapsed. Her eyes were cold and hard when the maid took Caroline away and the Prince left as well to comfort his wife.

With them both gone she had time to think and rant to herself. What right did Caroline have to accuse her?! She'd lost a husband she dearly loved and had barely been able to know because of them! She hadn't asked for forever, just for time to grieve. And she hadn't asked that they leave her utterly alone either, just that they not place demands on her body, that they give her time to grieve for her love before she came to them as a willing pet.

Her anger with Caroline only grew the more she thought of it. The Princess accused her of being selfish, of letting Paul die in vain, well what was she if not selfish and spoiled? A pampered Princess used to having her way. She wouldn't allow her to guilt her into something she wasn't ready for, something she knew would only lead her to hate them later.

When the Prince finally returned to her room she hadn't moved and was still standing, staring out the window. She watched him sink into the chair and begin to cry and without a word she moved, she grabbed a spare blanket and brought it to him, wrapping it around his shoulders before sinking to her knees at his side, her head resting in his lap, as she too cried her grief out once more.

"Geoffery, when I asked for time, I wasn't asking you to stay away from me utterly, or saying I wouldn't share your grief and that perhaps we could try to find comfort in each other. I was asking only that such comfort not be sexual. I'm simply not ready and if I go there now I know I will come to hate and despise both you and Caroline, then Paul will truley have died in vain. I don't want to hate that which he loved. You said I am your last connection to him, well you are my last living connection to him as well. I don't want that connection lost.

You and Caroline are all I have left."

"Geoffrey, when I asked for time, I wasn't asking you to stay away from me utterly……………………….You and Caroline are all I have left."

The Prince new that if he was to get his way with her before the memorial service it would take more than Caroline childish accusations. He listened to her and his hand strayed to stroke her silken mane his touch was tender loving and he made no demands of Alex, as the evening wore into night he final rose and taking Alex by the hand he led her to her bed and turned back the silken coverlet.

“You need to rest Alex you need to rest. Now to bed with you young lady and that is an order.”

He watched as the innocent young beauty slipped into her bed. And then he crawled in beside her. there was a shocked look in Alex’s firry emerald eyes.

“Do not worry I shall make no demands sexual demands on you .”

He cradled Alex in his arms resting her head on his chest.

“Let us grieve together and seek comfort as we can.”

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Jonas had done as he was told Delery knew that the Prince would be cautious and expect trouble on Jersey and Windsor would be impregnable so he would have to take Alex some where in between Dover and Windsor on the Prince’s return to Windsor Canterbury would be the best place as the Arch Bishop would demand that the Prince stay a day or two on his return from the Coast. That is when Delery would strike and rescue Alex.

“Let us grieve together and seek comfort as we can.”

Alex smiled softly up at Geoffrey and pressed a small kiss to the center of his chest before snuggling in closer against him. Her voice when it reached his ears was soft, sweet, and grateful for his understanding, "Thank you Geoffrey. I swear if I am ready before then I will tell you but thank you for understanding that I need time to be able to say goodbye and let go."

Curled in his arms she turned so that she faced him and wrapped her own arms around his waist, holding him gently while her head nestled trustingly into his chest. For the first time since she'd been brought the news of Paul's death she slept peacefully.

***

As the days passed she was grateful that the Prince seemed to have taken her words to heart and didn't press matters with her. It was obvious that there was an open invitation if she chose to take him up on it but he didn't push her. It was Caroline that Alex dreaded seeing, everytime she saw the Princess the other womans eyes accused her for what she would no longer give to them.

The days pasted and each night The Prince would lay by Alex the first night he was fully clothed, later it was a night shirt, and then he would lay naked next to her young supple body. Still he made no demands on the young beauty but each night she could feel his lust for her pressed to her belly or the tight crevasse of her ass. each night her body starved of what it longed for felt the man, the promise of pleasure.

It was the night before they where to depart for the Isle of Jersey and Geoffrey came again to Alex’s bed now as was his custom he was naked, and it seemed natural for him to be so in her presence. This night when he bid Alex good night his lips brushed hers in a tender kiss and he slowly drew back from that kiss only letting it linger a moment. He wondered was that moment long enough to ignite the young beauty’s long denied passions.

She gew accustomed to Geoffrey sleeping beside her at night. Where before she might have argued that he should sleep with his wife she now simply took comfort in his prescence. She knew he wanted her, it was painfully obvious when he slid into bed with her each night and when she woke each morning. She could always feel the heat of his body and the hard line of his cock pressing against her, through her nightgown. Just as he made it a point to be naked, she made it a point not to be.

The night before they were to leave Alex was exhausted. She'd spent the day with one of the maids packing and re-packing what would be needed for their trip. Since she couldn't leave the palace herself she'd even managed to send one of the footmen to the home that Paul had bought her, the only thing that would remain hers for he'd bought it in her name not his own, to fetch her the small rosewood box that was on the bestand in her chambers there. Inside was her wedding ring and the choker that Paul had claimed her with.

They were the only two possessions from the house that she cared about. The ring she placed on her finger and the choker she packed gently away within the folds of the gown she would wear to the actual memorial service. It would be her only adornment that day other than her wedding ring on her left hand and his signet on her right. She'd finally managed to have it sent out and resized and now it never left her hand.

There had been more tears that day each time she'd looked at her wedding band and while she'd been handling the choker. The maid helping her had seemed perplexed by her behavior but had shrugged it off as the maddness of the nobility.

When Geoffrey came to her that night she curled in close against him without thought and tipped her lips to his when he kissed her. She felt the frisson of pleasure that course through her body and even this brought tears to her eyes and wrenched at her heart today. Rolling away from him she grabbed one of the spare pillows on the bed and curled around it like a child while soft sobs wracked her body.

Geoffrey knew than Alex was more vulnerable than she had ever been before. he had felt the yearning in her body when for a moment she surrendered to his kiss. The sweet musky sent of her arousal was heavy in the air, even as she turned to cruel into the pillow. His arms tenderly enfolded her sobbing form and he let her cry for as long as she wished and when her sobs subsided he tenderly turned her to face him. His hands cupped her angelic face his thumbs brushed away the tears from her flawless cheeks and then slid sensually so seductively across her full ripe lips.

“Alex……….”

His voice faltered his own eyes shimmered with unshed tears and the dark fire of his longing for her his hard cock pressed against her belly, his need matching the musky arousal that Alex could no longer hide.

“Alex……….”

She wanted him, there was no denying it but if she gave into him it would be only to push away her grief and still the thoughts that told her she'd never see her beloved husband again. She would be using him to quell her pain when what she truly wanted was Paul's arms around her, Paul's body beside hers. It wouldn't be fair or right to use him that way.

"Geoffrey, if we do this now it won't be fair to you. Everything today has made me think of Paul, even looking at you now reminds me of him. My body aches but my heart longs for my husband, if we do this it won't be because I want you to take me, it'll be to simply push away the pain for a short time," her voice cracked as she spoke but eventually she lifted sorrow filled eyes to his and continued, "I'll leave the choice to you. If you won't hate me for it I'd take comfort in your body this night Geoffrey."

The hunt had been long and she had run from her own natural hungers till at last the Prince had caught her in his well laid trap, for it was not he that was pressing her but Alex that was begging him.

He did not answer her not trusting that what ever he would say might break the spell that he had so carefully cast, instead he let a tear tricked down his cheek and his lips brushed Alex’s. This time he let the kiss linger, tempt her, seduce her, and enflamed the hungering passions that raged just below the surface of her ravishing young body. The prince rolled to his back with Alex astride of him he lifted her Night dress over her head, of all the times he had stripped this stunning young beauty he enjoyed this time the most for it was she that had come to him . Her body bared to him his hands cupped her firm young breasts and his thumbs rolled her taunt roe bud nipples under there pads. Slowly he wakened her body his cock pressed to her belly her thigh gripping his waist now it was up to Alex to impale her self on him and take what she so wanted so needed.

Alex tasted the tear that rolled down his cheek and toward their lips as his head bent over hers. She gave herself up to his kiss and purred softly against his lips. She felt the heat that coursed through her body and for a moment she could almost believe it was Paul and not Geoffrey with her. She longed for him so much! Still her pain was pushed to the side as she needed when he rolled her atop him and she broke their kiss to lift her arms, letting him pull her nightdress over her head and toss it aside.

As his fingers found her nipples she whimpered softly and looked down at him, her eyes dark and needy as she shifted on him and reached between them. She found his cock, hard and ready, and stroked it gently before guiding it to the entrance of her body and sliding slowly down it's length with a low groan of satisfaction.

"Take me Geoffrey, for tonight make me forget pain, make nothing exist but you tonight."

Each moan, each low sensual growl, and her sensual purring told Geoffrey he had won and then she begged him to take her make her forget. Her body opened to him, Alex was tight, so very tight as she had not been used for over a month now.

The Prince took her as she had begged him to. He made love to her claimed her as his own and when at last exhausted they collapsed into each other’s arms.

In the morning they would leave Windsor for Jersey and the funeral without a body. Delery came to Alex in her dreams and smiled down at her, held his hand out to her.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The day of the memorial was a cold windswept rainy day many of the Members of the Hellfire Club where there, most of the Court as well. The Princess Royal wept and sobbed and tried to be the center of attention. But all now knew that Alex had been Delery’s wife and they treated her with a deep respect one she found oddly strange as they seemed aloof to the Royals.

A lonely figure watched form the Hill his knuckles white with the rage of Betrayal.

“Jonas is all ready?”

Alex was grateful to forget her pain for a time and when at last she collapsed and dreamed it broke her heart to dream of Paul. When he held his hand out to her she stretched her fingers out to him and gripped his hand tightly, tears flowing down her cheeks even in her dream as she told him she was sorry, so very sorry and that she loved him more than words could express.

When she woke in the morning there were tears tracks on her cheeks and her pillow was damp but her heart felt more at ease that it had in ages. The dream had allowed her to say what she needed to say to her husband and she prayed his sould had heard her in the afterlife.

The funeral was a nightmare. Her gown was the deepest and flatest shade of black and her only adornments were the blue velvet choker around her throat, a silver bear hanging from it, her wedding ring on her left hand and Paul's signet on her right. Through the whole service tears rolled silently down her cheeks and her grief was etched on her face.

She felt nothing but contempt for Caroline as she sobbed and made a spectacle of herself and despite the oddness of the respect she was given she was grateful for it. It seemed the nobility saw her in a different light now that they knew she wasn't a Mistress but a wife and that most viewed the way the Royals had taken her for their own with contempt if not outrage.

Still none were brave enough to offer her shelter either.

At one point she thought she saw a man standing up on the hill nearby and tried to shade her eyes and squint to be sure but it was too far and she couldn't be sure.

All day her only thought was her longing for Paul.
