Why? Your Highness I am ill suited to this mission. You yourself said that anyone sent must speak flawless French and I don't. On top of that Paris is where Byron was sent, if he sees me there he'll know Paul must be about somewhere and start sniffing about in possibly dangerous ways. My presence would endanger my husband much more than it could possibly help him Highness."
There was a soft pleading in Alex’s voice her knuckles where white with her death grip on the arms of the chair. The prince calmly observed her reaction to being told to go to France. Again a deep crimson blush colored her pale cheeks, she demurely lowered her eyes, and the Prince knew that Alex had not told him everything, that there was some unspoken reason for her redisence to go.
“Alex what you say may be true, but I have reason to believe that there is a double agent or traitor abroad in France and I need to let Paul Know. His life at this very moment may be in the gravest danger my dear.”
The Prince regent paused and he could see how his words had hit Alex as if they where a physical blow.
“Though Delery is a most capable and resourceful chap he needs to know the danger he is in. If you feel incapable to carry out this mission then please tell me who I should send in your stead.”
There it was either Alex would have to go or she would have to send another in her stead. The Prince ran his hand through his hair and continued.
“Alex then I’ll need you to go to the Hellfire club and recruit the men we have spoken of. They must think that Delery is recruiting them and must not know of my involvement the choice is yours.”
