"That's a freaky prize, Buddy," Cade said. He eyed the thing curiously. "I guess it's all just the gimick though, huh?"
He seemed oddly understanding just then. Not Cade-like at all, but like a normal human being. Then he grabbe dmy head lightly and ran an knuckle along my head, laughing foolishly, and the understanding, normal guy was gone and Cade was there again.
When he let go and pointed off at the Basketball game, which a actually a game where you threw heads through broken and blood-stained hoops, Suzanne looked down at me, eyeing the prize as well. It was a head, with an arrow through it.
She shrugged. "Guess he has a point about the gimick."
I nodded.
"Should we let him go, or try to keep up?" Dale asked, whispering the question as Cade was heading off to the head-throwing game.
"Keep up, I guess," Suzanne suggested. "He seems to be enjoying himself, maybe it'll catch..."
They looked at me. I nodded. I was getting eager to have more fun, to get rid of the feeling that had settled itself inside me when I saw my reflection in the mirror earlier and still wouldn't leave me alone.
"Come on," Dale said. "We might as well jump in line too."
