Hentai Novelization/Adaptation?

Need to get this out there to know what the forum thinks. Do any of you think novelizing or adapting a popular hentai (video or manga) is popular? The idea is there but I do not know the readers will think of hentai being novelized or adapted.

It’s permissible to write stories featuring 18+ characters in the public domain. There is a Celebrity & Fanfic category.

It’s permissible to write an story inspired by another work.

I’ve got an abortive Star Wars-inspired series here.

It’s not very cool to plagiarize a work in one media transferring it to another. It’s likely also a copyright infringement.

Not to mention how the Japanese are zealots when it comes to taking someone else's copyrighted work. Lit authors who don't authorize are permissive in comparison.

The other rule is that you can't age up characters that are underage in the story, so if they aren't 18 at the point you're writing the character, it doesn't matter, you can't do it.

They are called light novels. I personally am not a fan, but they have a following. If you read manga, you will probably recognize many titles on this list.

You would have to publish it in the fanfiction section here, which suffers from having too few readers.

If you want to write that adaptation, then take my advice and publish it on AO3 instead (archive of our own) That place is literally made for such fanfiction and you will find a lot more readers there. Also, you will find no restrictions there when it comes to the content you write.

OTOH, the Doujinshi custom is that you can freely write derivative works (within certain limitations).

I've heard good things about the slime one and the dungeon one. Haven't gotten a chance to read either one though.

Although, if you want a trippy manga, you should check out, "That Time I Got Reincarnated as Yamcha"

I am surprised though not to see "Reincarnated as a Vending Machine, Now I wander a Dungeon" on that list.

I strongly suspect modern Japanese titles are intentionally long to hit as many potential keywords as possible.

I suspect though that they sometimes compete to see who can come up with the most absurd title.

Starting in the mid-90s and running into the mid-2010s, there was a Japanese publisher called Paradigm devoted to doing just this. They published novelizations of some five hundred visual novels and hentai games, including one of my favorites, Divi-Dead.

I suspect though that they sometimes compete to see who can come up with the most absurd title.

Both of these are true. The aforementioned "Reborn As a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon"'s Japanese title is, "Reborn As a Vending Machine, I Wander the Labyrinth". The Japanese title takes about twice as many syllables to say as the English translation. LOL!
