How come *SO* many people (claim?) to leave in the midwest or the east? Where are all the westcoast folks at? I mean, yeah, they have snow and ice but we have RAIN (in the PNW, that is).

I can understand why most of SoCal and lower NorCal is not well represented :)

If you look at the population distribution in the US it is heavily tilted to the east coast and Midwest states. There are less people in the PNW and less large metro areas.
 
The Midwest and East Coast have larger urban populations, leading to greater representation in discussions. The West Coast, especially places like California, is diverse but may not always be as prominently featured. Weather also plays a role, with different climates attracting people for various lifestyle choices.
