Tanya left, confident that she and Paul would continue, sometime in the near future. He hadn’t set a return date or time, but she thought that he had to know her contact information by now, she thought he might phone.
The first week wasn’t bad, Friday evening was a little rough, as that was when their last session had been, she thought that for sure he would phone, but he didn’t. She went to bed very late that night, her body humming with suppressed need. She awoke in the morning thinking that perhaps he had just been busy.
Mid week of week two, she decided he was making her wait. Her stubbornness asserted itself, and she thought to outwait him. Friday came and went, she busied herself with a hot bath complete with bubbles and a work project until she had exhausted herself and fell asleep
Week three, she was climbing walls. Wanting to hear from him, yearning to hear his voice. She cried herself to sleep Friday night, convinced that she had committed some atrocious thing that was preventing his call. She awoke on Saturday, lethargic and depressed.
Friday morning week four, she knew she couldn’t take it. She was willing to beg, to crawl across hot coals, if only she could be with him again, to have him with her in whatever way was possible.
When she got home, she headed straight for the phone. Her hands shook as she picked up the receiver and dialed.
“Paul Bauer here.”
What an incredible relief, just to hear his voice! At the same time, she was a little upset that it hadn’t been someone answering to tell the caller that Paul Bauer had been involved in an accident of some kind and that was why he hadn’t called.
She hated herself then, for the way her voice cracked and showed how much she had missed the sound of his voice as she chokingly said, “Paul, its Tanya. I was just calling to see if you might want to get together again. I have missed you the past few weeks, it has been awful. I want to see you very badly. In fact, I would do anything to do so.” This last, her voice had dropped to the point it was little more than a whisper as she confessed to how desperate she was.
