Sun, surf, and sand. The perfect summer vacation. Especially with her best friends. Except..her friends had other things to concentrate on. While she floated in her polka dotted bathing suit against the warm Caribbean waters. Her friends giggled over every bare chested man. Closing her eyes. The young High school graduate sighed. Wasn't this a time to be independent. Sure, maybe a summer romance. But...not when you were supposed to be having fun! Diving underwater, she opened her eyes. The salt water not bothering her too much. Her curly brown hair seemed to straighten in the water. Floating freely around in the water. Her big brown eyes sparkled with curiosity. As they always did. Being on her school's swim team, her long, luscious legs seemed to maneuver her easily. Her skinned was tanned from the last few days of sun. But also because of some of her Latina blood. Mostly her mother's side. She got her fiery personality, and her salsa dancer body. But from her father's side she got some Filipina. Where the brown hair came in. None really knew. But it made her unique.

She had been given a chance to dance at a beach party on stage. Her friends more forced her then anything. Her mother, being a native to Mexico, taught her all the steps and beautiful alluring twists and turns that came with the fast paced dance. She also had a sharp tongue. Sometimes just speaking in Spanish when angered. But she had a wonderful charm. Her mother had caught her dad with her charm, and of course her dancing. But not lonely that. Her mama was just a fire. She had learned everything from her. But with her father's gentle spirit. Our maiden had gotten many things from her parents. But all in all. She was a mystery. Catching the eye of all too many. It had become tiring of men just wanting to fondle her body. And instead of talking to her. They talked to her chest. Men all together were getting on this chica's last nerve. Animals...That's what they were. For the longest time. Her mother convinced her, that the only man that you could count on was your father. Even though her mother met the love of her life. She needed to whine about something. Laughing a bit, she came up for air and then dove back under.

Looking down her eyes casted on some sea life. Starfish, seaweed, sea cucumbers...Which just looked like squishies to her... coming up for air she turned and realized how far she had actually swam. Enough that her friends seemed like little people. About to turn back, her eyes shown pure pain as a cramp hit her ankle. Crying out loud enough that hopefully someone would hear her. She reached a tan hand out before singing beneath the waves. Her lungs burning with the salt water and her vision going black. So may thoughts ran through her mind. What could she have done? could she have fallen in love too? Would she had graduated and became a marine biologist like she had always wanted to? A few bubble floated to the surface as the young, tanned maiden blacked out. Being as tiny and proportioned as she was, she didn't sink too fast. Enough to keep her reachable. But she was still small. It was hard to keep her eyes open.

It was the proverbial last summer of freedom. College was done, grad school was done and certificates obtained, he was a licensed to educate others. The problem was take the highschool gig, or the community college offer.

Or both.

None of those decisions were of much import at the moment as Galon floated on the crystal blue green water of the Caribbean. The warm breeze and warm water acted in concert to lull him into a sense of tranquility that he hadn't felt in months, if ever.

Galon thought he heard a cry and rolled over to tread water looking around. A few yards away he saw a very pretty brunette bob up once, and then again. Galon immediately thought of some of the old cartoons where someone was drowning and they would bob up counting up to three only to disappear below the waves.

When she did not come back up, he began swimming furiously toward her. Reaching the spot where he thought she went down, Galon looked around and saw her just below the surface, no air bubbles escaping her mouth or nostrils.

Reaching down, he grabbed her arm and pulled her up to the surface. It took a minute until he got her situated where he could pull her back toward shore, one arm tucked under her arm pits, while paddling like a duck.

Once he got to where he could place his feet onto the sandy bottom, Galon began administering CPR while dragging her toward the shore. One or more other people must have seen his struggles and a life guard came out taking over the CPR at the waterline until she sputtered back to consciousness.

"Are you okay?" Galon asked.
