Another idea that I have is about war. Course there are a few stories on here about war, and how the wife helps out army friends, or the wife has a lover while the husband is off in Iraq.

I vaguely remember, that when we were at war with Britain (and maybe before we fought for our independence) that British general’s would take control of a houses and the general would sleep with the wife. Is this true?

It's called "quartering" and it was one of the many complaints colonists had that led to the Revolutionary War. I think the practice of quartering was the impetus behind the 3rd Amendment to the Constitution.

I don't know much about incidents of British officers sleeping with the women of the household they quartered their soldiers in. Colonials *hated* quartering so they would jump at the chance to report on something like this to fan the flames. There may be published reports of sexual misconduct in propaganda papers with some liberal editorial license and hyperbole to make the situation seem worse than it was.

First thing that pops to mind being sci fi, is a mercenary unit. The universe is a big place, and if a certain government hires outside help to fight their war, these types will be more apt to 'bend' the rules and do as wish IMO. Look at what happened over in Iraq and Afganastan with that Blackwater company?

Say that a unit of mercs moves in to occupy a town, whether friendly or not, and lots of bad things can happen, depending on the theme you're going for.
Oh, I love military sci-fi by the way.

Our President Franklin D. Roosevelt wanted to help sooner but he had promised that
he would not send any sons into war as an election promise. America was sending
supplies via ships to the U.K. and as soon as Japan bombed Pearl Harbor (Hawaii-a
USA state) America declared war on the Axis powers and we began sending men and
equipment to your lands. The Germans had better stuff than we did as they had been
working on new,secret weapons since 1939, but we would soon have MORE of it. At
first our soldiers had to train with wood rifles.

Germany developed fast fighter planes and the FW-109 and ME-190 was favorites.
Their Panzer tanks were better than ours ,but we soon had more of them. The
Germans and Japs had lots of victories but once the Japanese naval code was broken
we began to have victories of our own. The UK had broken the German code and
Germany was beginning to feel the power of the UK and America as the British bombed Germany during the night and the U.S. bombed Germany during the day.

Germany fought in Africa and had conquered France . Hitler thought that Russia
would be easy to conquer so after signing a peace treaty with Stalin,he attacked the
Russia 3 months later. When the Russian winter arrived- Germany was frozen solid.

Time passed and on June 6,1944 the Allies invaded Normandy, France. Brits and
G.I.s along with Canadians and Australians waded ashore into machine gun nests
and all kinds of death. I'm not sure how many died but the USA had over 9,000 men killed that day.

Later in 1945, Germany was almost out of time as Hitler was almost killed by a
German officer , Italy had given up and Japan was being bombed every day by our
long range B-29s taken off from airbases on formerly held jap island bases. (Taken
in return for the deaths of thousands of American Marines.)

We may have cone late by your standards but, when we came we came as hard as we could. From the time we entered WWII we, on average, had 6,600 service men killed par month or about 220 per day. In Aug 1943 we lost 60 B-17s that was $12,000,000 just the cost of the A/C and 600 American airmen killed or captured.

Once the American Army Air Corps 8th Air Force we took over day light raids over Germany where the much vaunted Lancaster bombers were being decimated. Britain took over night time raids which were less costly but also less effective.

So Xee while I remember the joke about Americans. "They are over paid, over sexed and over here." The over here Americans obviously did a hell of a lot more then just charm your women out of their panties with a couple of pair of proper stockings, chocolate, and money.

To add to Grimfalcons comment about mercenaries during the Revolutionary war The Brits captured and held Philadelphia for a year. They quartered at least some of their Hessian merc.s there. I have not heard of rape but there were several stories households giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Understand at that time were not all unified with the idea of being American there were may who wanted to stay part of Britain.

It sounds like a great idea to me, a historic, erotic novel. I, for one, have never found such a thing on this site.

As others have already pointed out, there's lots of scope for such a thing, based on the British Home Front, as from 1943 onwards, American Sailors/Soldiers/Airmen were arriving on the British mainland in large numbers and started to seduce the female population en masse, fathering thousands of children in the process!

They weren't too bothered whether the women were married or not and the women weren't too bothered what colour the US soldiers were. And if you need some inspiration, there's plenty of women's paperback fiction of this subject on the library and book store shelves

The two cities where my Gramps grew up were the most badly bombed like London because one was a port and another was an manufacturing city. The WW's are still remembered by a lot of people and it still is having an effect.
My grate grandad is from a port city called Hull. He got awarded a medal of honer for bravery when he's fleet was being torpeedod he stayed on deck and helped to save survivors English, American, French etc..
So do excuse the fuck outta me for wanting to make a joke ...

yes, because they were aircraft designed to carry bombs and with very light armour plating. The B-17 was basically a tank with wings and therefore carried a lower bomb load; it was even called the Flying Fortress.

I agree; I don't think the OP intended the thread to be an argument based on the hesitancy of the U.S entering the Second World War because of Xee's joke, which I found humerous by the way, or details pertaining to aircraft. Nice job at highjacking it thus far...

Hessian mercs during the Revolutionary war might be a good point to follow up on, if you are interested in that time period.
American Civil War- The south being occupied by the north, with a trim and proper Southern Belle's mansion being used to house Union troops. Lots of different things to work with throughout history, alternate history, or sci-fi.

Just a minor nitpick, Hawaii didn't become a state until after WWII, at the time, it was a Territory.

Well, the B-17s didn't have much armor plating either (they were called Flying Fortresses because of their defensive armament.) They lacked armor because they felt that every pound of armor plating was another pound of bomb or fuel the plane could carry, both of which would help it better accomplish the mission. A common field modification was to add armor plating to the seats, because the aircrews "knew what they wanted to protect."

Edited to add: Also worth noting, the B-17s got slaughtered pretty badly as well. There's a reason that the Army Air Force lost more men in the war than the Marine Corps did.

But yes, back to the topic at hand, the story idea sounds fun. Kind of reminds me of a story idea I had years back about a Patriot wife and her two daughters delaying a group of British troops in persuit of the men of their family by keeping them "distracted"

Another idea is the opposite of the wife - the husband has a lover or a few during his deployment. Or the husband accepts sexual welcomes from other army wives.

But when the war officially started, it would be no surprise that happened because the British troops imposed/enforced the Quartering Act even more and raided the houses, farms and other properties for food, rest and supplies. Don't forget about the daughter(s). And if there was any female slaves, there's no doubt that they were bedded by the British. But not all of the colonists were thrilled about the idea of separating from England so they probably willingly gave control of the house to the General or the officer in charge. Whether the husband relents to it or not is up to you. If not, the wife probably went behind her husband's back.

Another war you can do is the Civil War. Prostitutes followed the camps of the soldiers. The troops invading the Southern states often took advantage of black women. To touch a white women is equivalent to rape and were punished, so they were mostly left alone. What if the Southern women opened their homes to the Confederate army nearby and slept with the officers and their soldiers? Or when the Union Army raids the homes of the Southerns, some of them secretly helped themselves to the women - both white and black.

To the OP: There appears to be a veritable gold mine of potential stories here. Good idea!

You are correct about the fighter planes. I ran out of time before I got to the Me-262
the first jet fighters put in operation by the Germans and were 100 MPH faster than any
of the Allies fighter planes. The Germans had great success with the jet and shot
down 40 or 50 B-17 bombers in the last month of the war. Only thing was that the
war was winding down and Germany was in need of pilots,fuel and time. Our P-51
Mustangs were slower but we could shoot the German jets down if we caught them
landing and got them from behind. Also the P-51 was great at long distance missions
protecting our B-17 bombers but was a great fighter plane once we substituted the
superior SPITFIRE fighter plane engine that the British supplied us.

I have been reading some books about German secret weapons of WW2 and the
book has lots of wild weapons including the Atomic bomb but I think this is mostly
BS . A Italian officer claimed he saw a test conducted on an island toward the last
days. According to the books, the Germans were working on long range V-2 rockets
that could hit New York City and long range bombers that could fly to New York and
fly back to Norway. Many of the secret weapons were still being developed as the
war ended and the USA and the UK got many of the scientists and their research
for use in their postwar work. Werner Von Braun was one of the top german rocket
scientists taken with others to America and given jobs in our race to the Moon with
the CCCP (Later Russia), even though the USA had promised the American people
that no Germans who had been members of the NAZI SS would be employed by our
NASA space research organization.

IIRC, they were trying to develop a nuclear submarine. Turns that many U-Boats were spotted when their breathing snorkels for their diesel engines were detected by radar. Nuclear powerplant means no need to surface to run the engines. There might have also been work on a bomb, but it wasn't their main goal, as I recall.

They were trying to build an Atomic bomb but according to my book they wanted to use the atom
bomb as a fuse for the more powerful HYDROGEN BOMB which needs the high temp blast to set
off the H bomb. Heavy water is used to make deritium used in the bomb and also used in an
atomic pile that can be used to create plutonium from uranium 235. Norway sent comandos and
they sank the barge transporting most of the heavy water when it was in the middle of a lake.

There are reports that the Germans built and tested an Atomic bomb but there is doubt because
there was never found any dirt or sand turned into GLASS as it was when the American bomb
was tested and vaporized the tower and turned the desert sand to glass on top.

great idea, so the mercenary unit is holding up in the house for the night. the guys are all studs, with scars and things....total bad boys. over the course of the night the wife learns that these guys have hearts and are fighting to save country. the kitchen is small so bodys touch. she is clearning their clothes and that leaves them in boxers or something like that...
