I posted this in general, but I think this might be more appropriate. So I’m trying to write a story set in the 1980s about a young Hmong couple. The wife struggles with vaginismus and seeks help from the white Mormon elder who sponsored her family’s move to the U.S. Her husband is a Shamanist, and a big part of the story is the emotional/sexual/cultural tension between all three characters.

My problem is that I keep getting too deep into backstory and details, and the pacing slows to a crawl. I’ve also tried writing from multiple POVs, but that somehow made it even more bloated.

I tried using ChatGPT to help move scenes along, but it tends to skip over the emotional/sexual tension I actually want to explore, especially the wife coming to terms with her condition, the awkward intimacy of her husband being her first, and the complicated dynamic of the Elder helping them sexually reconnect and finally consummate the marriage. Instead, the AI rushes straight to the resolution and loses the slow emotional buildup I’m aiming for.

Does anyone have advice on:

  • balancing backstory with forward momentum,
  • writing “slow burn” tension without dragging the pacing,
  • or structuring emotionally/sexually intimate scenes so they don’t feel repetitive?
I’d especially appreciate advice from anyone who’s written culturally layered relationship stories or emotionally heavy intimacy arcs.

Thanks. Also I am just using it to help with the pacing and quickly realize the limitation and abandoned it.

This might be better suited for the Author's Hangout.

Also, anything that is generated by AI will get your story kicked if you plan to post it on Literotica.
And, if indeed there is a naughty list, (some folks believe there's a white list where certain authors get their stories posted immediately) mentioning anything about AI in the forum might get your story rejected (these forums are moderated). Just saying

As a forum moderator, I can tell you that we have no say in what or who gets published. The Literotica owners/admin are in charge of that. 😁

You have a Mormon priesthood holder engaging in sex out of wedlock and cheating?

Well, at least not many people who might complain will encounter it.

I would be happy to take a look at your piece (lol) and offer advice. I have experience with the LDS culture and am a woman with a desire for sexual tension. 💜

When your story is posted let us all know Sounds like an interesting read

Double Yep. None are or should be reading. But also, it’s about Institutionalized CNC of the highest order. Not specifically anti-Mormon, more just rueful acknowledging how religious leaders of most religions protect one another with codes of silence, suppressing complaints, blaming the victims, etc.

We all have our own squicks. This is mine. Well, top three. ;)
