Even though his head hurt and was thumping Johnathan's first thought was for Cassandra and himself and their safety. It was obvious that they couldn't stay in the village but out there was the jungle, neither of them knew how to survive, Suku couldn't be trusted so they couldn't ask him to guide them. His first task though was to get Cassandra away from the chief. He suddenly realized that if Cassandra had been taken to the river she must be close to the boat they had arrived on, if they could get on board the boat and cast off, the river would take them downstream towards civilization.
Slowly he made his way to the riverside until he saw Cassandra standing naked in the river up to her thighs being teased by two of the native women. Carefully he made his way down until he was behind the two women, he signalled to his bride to keep their attention on her. When he was close enough he knocked them both unconscious with a rock and tied them to a tree with hanging vines.
"Get to the boat, we're leaving," he whispered.
Getting on board the boat was easy the natives had seen no need to post guards, so as soon as they were on board Johnathan cast off and the current soon took them out to the middle and they drifted downstream and were soon out of sight of the village. Johnathan took the helm to try and keep the boat clear of any floating debris that might hold them up. He told Cassandra to find some sort of clothing for them both, he had no chance to think how ravishingly beautiful she was in her naked glory. He hoped the trip back to civilization would be straightforward, little did he know how treacherous and devious the Amazon could be.
