Hope your day is Magic!

Has anybody seen Glynndah the good witch? She is a good source for a smile. I miss seeing her here! :rose:

I really like and admire you, Try, get that bit out there before the inevitable but. On the surface it appears amusing but it only highlights the enforced captivity of what are highly intelligent and sentient beings. Made me sad. 'Nuff said won't go off on a lengthy diatribe.

You know I never thought of it that way! Never thought beyond his smile. Thank You! It opens my eyes.

Good Lord! That's really creepy.

I worked with troubled animals for over 12 years, one learns to look beyond the obvious to find the real issues affecting animals and human's complete disregard and lack of respect for for their rights, freedom and environment
Go to any zoo and you'll find signs of insanity in almost all the captive animals. Repetitive behaviour, aggression, self harm....
Did I mention how awesome you are? :rose:

I think the same about you!:rose: It is crazy because I am an animal lover, or so I thought. I have rescued animals from the humane society, who didn't like to be caged, but never applied it to all animals. Great information! Hmmmm, food for much thought.

i love that, try.

i think it serves to highlight how very close we are to our other ape relatives and so need to do the best we can for them.

too many zoos are still the source of mental and physical discomfort for animals around the world, but there are so many better ones where the animals are there as part of breeding programmes to protect their species from extinction. left alone in the wild, they'd be extinct by now due to human activity.

not all zoos are bad. it's important to recognise the differences.

i don't think most people do, to be honest.

how many people in america keep 'indoor only cats?
doesn't seem such a thing in britain except for in high-rise flats=apartments in tower blocks
personally, i've had cats in a flat and never gave it a thought... long time ago. but now? to see cats shut in, away from naturally running and hunting, using their claws to climb and catch, to chase leaves blowing in the wind? any of that stuff? i think it's the same as imprisonment. I understand why my m-i-l's reasons for having 2 indoors only cats, but cannot help but feel sorry for them when they sit at the windows watching the outdoors cats enjoying being cats!

Sanctuaries are a better option than zoos. Conservation areas, too. Most people are not fond of those ideas because they are robbed of the chance to ogle the captive animals. That being said it's nice to see improvements being made in places like Marine Land, legislation against orcas in captivity, here at any rate. I also don't want to disparage the amazing work that biologists do in trying to save species from extinction. Better idea is change consumer habits so natural habitats aren't being razed by millions of acres a year, or simple things like switching to products that don't contain palm oil, thereby saving thousands upon thousands of orangutans lives every year as well as their habitat. :cattail::catroar::cathappy:

There's another issue with domesticated cats, though. In many parts of the world, USA included, cats are a non native species. Stray cats, and house cats allowed to play outside, are responsible for killing billions of native birds the world over. I like that any animal is allowed to experience the outside, but I've come to think that folks who let their cats outside without a leash or something are pretty irresponsible.

Feral Animals:- Cats 70 million, Pigs 30 million, Donkeys and goats 3 to 5 million each, Horses 2 million, wild dogs 3 million, Water Buffalo 1 million, Camels 500,000, Foxes 7 million, Rabbits Zillions. And tht's just in Australia.

I have got rid of the Pigs, donkeys, camels and horses on my property. I pay the aboriginal kids living there 5 dollars for every tom cat and 10 dollars for every female carcass they bring me. It's cost me over $800 this year so far. If I could get rid of every cat on the place - now that would be magical. :(
