I think the game thing worked out. Sure several people were immediately recognizable, but for the most part, just knowing everyone's first name and not their screen name made everyone talk more without having preconceived ideas about the posts they'd read/seen. By the end most people had figured out what everyone's screen name was so everyone won a prize for playing. I hope they enjoyed it.
