I disagree. Mass merchandisers are larger, shoppers are usually occupied and the employees often are very busy and couldn't care less about who people are or what they're looking at/buying. Contrast that with a small store filled with women where a man will stick out like a sore thumb, customers take their time browsing and employees are supposed to be very attentive.

Putting myself in the secret lingerie-wearing male's shoes, I'd much rather shop at a larger store with more apathetic employees and customers than a smaller store with observant employees and customers.

I disagree with that. Maybe at a mass merchandise store like a Kohl's or JC Penny, it might be less obvious, but at a Target a guy in the lingerie section sticks out like a sore thumb. The employees, although they may be busy, are looking out for shoplifters and anything that looks out of the ordinary. A guy lurking in the lingerie section is very out of place. Plus you need to carry your selection to the front and stand in line and hope that the cashier doesn't find it odd that you have a few DVDs and a few pair of panties. Guys are in VS and Frederick's all the time buying gifts. Its way less out of place, and a lot easier if you go with the mindset that you are buying a gift for someone else.

Sorry, love. But I'm not going to walk into the Victoria's Secret with attractive girls around my age (early 20's), who quite possibly go to the same college as me, and tell them I want to dress like them. And not only look like a complete weirdo in the process, risk them telling their friends, who also quite possibly go to the same school as me, that I'm 'that guy' who digs wearing panties. Perhaps I'm sensationalizing things and a bit paranoid but eh. Fuck that shit.

But yea to the part about hitting up the higher end marts. I just want to make sure I have the sizing and things down before I go. 5 bucks on a set at Targets isnt a huge loss if they don't fit. Upwards towards 50? That could be an issue..

Glad you like what you got! Remember that bit about sizing not being very standard...it's not unusual for me to fit three different sizes, depending on the brand and style. Hanes Cottony boyshorts might be a little loose in a 6, whereas silky Bali bikinis might be too small in a 5. You'll have to try more styles and brands to get a read on what size works best in different styles.

It doesn't sound like you're overreacting about VS, at all. Sure, it's probably not packed with people you know, and you could probably pass them off as a gift if you don't go in the dressing room there (then again, if your style is on the feminine side, maybe not!), but if you feel uncomfortable in the first place, you're going to attract more attention, possibly from people you know. (BTW, as hard as it is, appearing confident is really the key when doing something like this. Pretend you're not nervous and don't care what anyone thinks, and they probably won't!)

$50 for a pair of underwear? Christ!

I won't pay more than $5. For good ones (Bali, Warners, Vanity Fair, Olga, etc.). Usually they're under $2 or 3. Discount stores like Ross are THE BEST for lingerie. OK, maybe not in terms of selection, but I always find something I really like and I love being able to get nice stuff all the time on a budget!
