How Do Some People Bump A Thread Without Posting To It?

I'm seeing this all over the GB tonight, being done by one person. Is this a widely-known technique or some sort of php-hack-lore? Or are threads just not being updated with their bump messages?

What happens when you put someone on your buddy list. Is it similar to adding a friend in your chat/messenger program?

Ah, you've just experienced your first Lit para-normal event. It can happen on the 'net but here at Lit they seem more -- well para-normal.

Some Litsters and most likely trolls like to bump old threads. Attention seeking perhaps and annoying yes. The Lit Gods have special powers of course and can make things disappear *poof*. Just keep telling yourself you still are on earth, and things are mostly well and good but never forget you are at this place called Lit.

As for the buddy list. It used to be more functional a few years back but it sort of works how you mentioned. It's easy access to people for say PMs or looking at their posts etc., basically it will show if they are here in the 'visible' mode. Their name will still be on your list visible or invisible.

Now, the ignore list -- that can truly be your buddy.

At first I thought I was imagining things, but other people saw the UFOs too, so it looks like I am not totally crazy, just mostly crazy.

I've seen large-scale thread-bumping go on in the GB, but never seen it made to go away before. Usually the obnoxious bumped threads just stay there.

The Friends feature sound useful for someone with as poor a memory as my own. I'll add nice people to that list and then, a week or so later, if I decide I want to flame someone, I'll check my list first. If they are on it, I'll just have to count to ten.
