I've bought 3 over the last few years....hate them all. It just doesn't feel natural and feels too mechanical for me to 'feel sexy'. I'm also alergic to the silicone that most of them are made out of. I've never been able to orgasm when using one.

I said 'most' to imply a majority, something I think is true. I'm sure there are plenty of women who don't masturbate. My point to the OP is that vibrator manufacture/retail is a huge industry, so clearly there's the demand to support the supply.

Yeah, I have experienced this too. I have friends who talk pretty openly about sex but none of them would happily discuss masturbation or their vibrator use.

She's an extreme case, though. It wasn't just that she would talk about sex with her best friends.
